DPSS launches campaign to encourage residents to apply for benefits

by The AV Times Staff • August 2, 2022

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) has launched its August “Essential Services Month” campaign to inform all county residents about its benefit programs and encourage anyone in need to apply.

“We offer several ways to apply for benefits. You can go online to the BenefitsCal enrollment site at https://dpss.lacounty.gov/, or call our Customer Service Center at 866-613-3177. You can also visit our offices to get assistance,” said DPSS Acting Director Jackie Contreras.

DPSS offers healthcare, nutrition assistance, and cash programs for individuals and families with minor children, and in-home care for residents who are blind, or disabled or 65 or older, so they can remain safely in their own home. The Essential Services Month campaign will showcase the Department’s “What is?” video series to explain each program and how to apply.

The campaign will also encourage customers and residents to connect with DPSS through its public website, follow its social media, and subscribe to its Essential DPSS weekly newsletter. All these communication platforms include timely information about community resources and assistance events, including job opportunities and job fairs, food giveaways, discounted utility and internet services, and Toy Loan Libraries open for youth coordinated by DPSS Toy Loan and Volunteer Services.

During Essential Services Month, DPSS will also showcase time-limited benefits, including the 2022 Advance Child Tax Credit Program for families available through November 2022.

“As one of Los Angeles County’s essential services departments, DPSS has so much to offer our community,” Contreras says. “Please reach out, we are here to help.”

For more informatio, contact DPSS as 866-613-3777 or visit https://dpss.lacounty.gov/.

They should stop all this free assistance and have everybody work and if they dont like to work than they can just not eat simple as that. Work for what you need not depend on somebody else to work so you dont have to .

Some people do work and still don’t make enough because the cost of living is so high. You’re basically telling the poor they can starve if they can’t afford to eat with no assistance even if they work 60+ hours a week. What a monster.

Actually Mr. Laden, you do not have to be a citizen to get emergency assistance for food stamps. The Right wants so badly to be a Christian nation, so it’s a good thing we are starting here in our very own county and following Jesus’ teachings, and loving thy neighbor. It would not be very Christ like to let anybody starve when we have the ability to prevent it, right? Right??

You sound stupid. Your acting like you pay for all the free loaders groceries bet you dont even have a job?

LOL…I’d take that bet. Not because I know anything about the person making the comment; just playing the odds since most people do have jobs.

See, what we have here is a ditz making up random attacks to make herself feel bigger than her target. Lemme guess: a friend of Beecee?

Kiki, you would be proud to live in a country that has the ability to feed everybody 10 times over, but instead chooses to let those within its borders starve? Since when is cruelty patriotic? It blows my mind that we allow corporations to pay no tax, yet receive huge amounts of welfare, meanwhile the people like us pay more taxes than Jeff Bezos and the poor are told to suffer and figure it out if they are hungry? How is that not considered a huge embarrassment for our government? Where is the morality? We are the richest country in the history of the world, yet there are more and more children going hungry every day, more and more families becoming homeless everyday…how is that even remotely ok? Somebody who is not born here gets some assistance for the ability to eat, and your response is to call them freeloaders even though it costs you nothing and takes nothing away from citizens who need help? It sounds like you need to do some soul searching and locate your empathy, and maybe do some reflecting on why you would want a human being to starve. And I have bought meals and groceries for many of my neighbors and community members, it is called being a good person and doing the right thing if you have it to spare. I hope you are never in a position where you don’t know where your next meal will come from.

What about the lazy b@$tards that just want to get benefits on my dime? They can make an effort to support themselves, but bleeding hearts like you keep giving them benefits and discouraging them from becoming productive, independent, contributing citizens.

Everything we purchase, every dome we spend, the county takes over 10% sales tax to support county welfare and corrupt political hack appointees.

You’re a moron, with a good heart but a lame brain.

And for the uummmmth time, please use more paragraphs and less drama in you emotional, hysterical screeds.

You’re a drama queen and a drag queen?

I would bet that you are a leech on the public dole too. Do you have a job? Do you pay taxes. Have you been supported on the backs of hard working taxpayers? How many welfare programs do you take advantage of? Do you have any idea about the viciousness, brutality, perversion and debauchery of the “Christians” throughout history?

Imbeciles like you think they are morally superior, but actually have no common sense, no sense of humor, and above all, have no sense as to how to govern a sustainable, sovereign country. You think your pure and woke and good, but you destroy the culture and values that have made us great.

            See how paragraphs are used?

          November 10, 2022 at 6:19 pm

Actually plenty of people who get welfare also work and pay taxes. But corporations don’t pay them enough to eat and pay rent. Hence social programs like this one. If you want to blame someone for your taxes going toward feeding people blame those who keep the working class in poverty and unable to pay for food even while working by hoarding resources. Read: the rich.
Also, the irony of calling someone stupid while not even being able to use the correct form of you’re is delicious.

You sound like Alexis/Claire, a self-righteous religious fanatic, prattling preacher and moral hypocrite that wants to convert the world to your superstitious beliefs.

Not everyone is a Christian, but everyone pays taxes that involuntarily make us pay for illegals’ food, housing and medical care, whether we want to or not. It should be handled by voluntary NGOs like Salvation Army, where people give because they want to.

          August 7, 2022 at 3:45 am

I’m not even remotely religious in any sense of the word. But the right is embracing and calling for Christian Nationalism so I figured I would point out the hypocrisy. It doesn’t surprise me that it went right over your head. This is not going to increase taxes, they are allocating funds that are already there, it’s literally hurting nobody and helping make sure people don’t go to bed hungry. It really seems like some people would rather suffer as long as the people they hate are suffering worse instead of making our community better for everybody. It’s proven that when a community has less food and shelter insecurity, and access to healthcare, crime rates go down. And it costs a lot less in the long run. But many people don’t want that, they want to be angry and dictate which humans are worthy of their precious tax dollars.

So bribe them to act like human beings? Give them welfare and they won’t hurt us? You are a dunce with a kind, cowardly heart. How have all your communist and Christian policies worked out for us so far? Moron. When your policies bring us disaster and catastrophe, you just double down and make it worse.

People like you drag this country down to third world levels. And if you are not a gullible, superstitious religious fanatic quoting Jesus to validate your weak argument, I don’t know who is. Own it.

Stupid b@$ard, where do you think those funds came from? LMAOROF. You don’t pay taxes and so want to feel “righteous” by giving away everyone else’s money. Hypocrite.

Don’t worry. Jesus will save us. And if not, AOC and the drag queens will, LOLOL.

            Here’s a hint:

When the government proposed the first government spending, did they have to wait for the tax money to come in so that they could do it? If so, where exactly did the people get the money to pay the tax?

      August 5, 2022 at 8:46 pm

Tara, if you see this call the number from the article: 866-613-3777 and ask what kind of assistance is available. You should qualify for an In Home Supportive Services worker. They are required to pass a background check and will come to your house periodically and help you with anything you need;.cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. If you are both on disability you should each qualify, and somebody at DPSS should be able to set you up with somebody to help you through the process. Don’t hesitate to call, that is exactly what this service is for. There may be other services you qualify for as well, just explain your situation.
