LANCASTER – Authorities Monday identified an armed suspect who was fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies following a pursuit in the Lancaster area.

Barry Ross, 34, of Lancaster, died at a hospital following the shooting that occurred on Thursday, Sept. 23, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The incident began around 4:10 p.m. at the Deputy Pierre W. Bain Park, located at 45045 Fifth Street East.

Deputies responded to a call about a man was brandishing a firearm and pointing it at passing vehicles and park visitors, said Deputy Morgan Arteaga of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

A sheriff’s department helicopter crew spotted the man, who got into a white vehicle and drove off, Arteaga said. The man then drove west on Avenue B into a dirt parking lot at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway, where deputies approached in an armored rescue vehicle.

Authorities said the man pointed a firearm at the sheriff’s helicopter and at approaching deputies, and they opened fire, mortally wounding him.

No deputies or civilians were injured.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

I feel so bad for him. I rented a room to him but had to ask him to leave because I found out he was doing drugs. I didn’t dislike him because he was a drug addiction. I am thinking it was suicide by cop. He was so alone and sad and I think he just gave up. RIP Barry your pain is over

Barry’s Mom was stable and prettylife was normal. We used to surf together . Then Mom passed away when he was about 18. It all changed for Barry. Father took off .Barry changed & went down the rabbit hole of addiction. Ending in the desert.
Note: Don’t point gun at Cops! They have families to go home to!

I was roommates with barry, being a 19 year old girl freshly out of home with four other male roommates i was nervous, but barry was a good friend and roommate who always made me feel comfortable. i was so thankful for that, having him as my roommate made the transition into being an adult easier, knowing that not everyone was bad. i deeply worried about him hurting himself being on the things he was on, having two parents who are addicts as well i know there are only one of two ways situations like this end, but i never thought anything like this would happen. he was a good man, despite his addictions he got up every morning and went to work, he was nice and funny to the people who knew him. i am so shocked and sad hearing about his death, i will remember our mojitos and him running to the store for things for the house we shared for a short period of time. rest in peace
