    Republicans have floated the idea of Trump being elected Speaker of the House if the Rs take it in 2022.

    So, if the Rs take the House and Senate in 2022 and elect Trump Speaker then what?

    They impeach Biden and Harris, and the Speaker becomes president.

        In a recently released book a Trump staffer who was a major contributor to Trump’s insurrection plan claims that more than a HUNDRED congress members were in on the plan, putting them in clear violation of their oaths of office. They are still in congress. Does that not concern you? It certainly should, especially since we don’t know for sure whether our own representative was among the conspirators but it seems likely that he was.

The people cheering trump as he says things we’ve never imagined a president would say are republicans.
    I’d say the Democrats are being way too nice under the circumstances. If you want civility, talk to republicans.
    At which convention in 2012 did the audiences cheer letting the uninsured die if they couldn’t afford health insurance and booed a gay soldier. The last year isn’t anything new for the republicans, just more so than ever.

    Trump claimed that voting was rigged when he lost two primaries to Ted Cruz. He claimed it was rigged when he lost the popular vote in 2016. He also claimed voting was rigged when he didn’t win the Nobel prize. He also claimed the voting was rigged when he didn’t win an Emmy.
    If you can’t see the pattern, you are hopelessly brainwashed.

    That was on the Fox ‘news’ website. It seems that a bunch of anti-Trumpers are loading up a lot of posts on their website to counteract the lies and more lies of the Fox fans.

Dominion Voting Systems could do the USA a huge favor and just refuse any and all settlement offers from Fox News, forcing a full disclosure showdown examination in open court of exactly how despicable the GOP propagandists have actually been. Hitting them for several hundred million dollars fits in as “the sooner the better” for Dominion, but a full scale assault on Fox and their disgusting business practices would certainly be more of a social benefit.

  9. The Select Committee had a live hearing voting unanimously to charge Meadows with contempt.

    Naturally, Fox ‘new’s didn’t carry it.

    Our local Trumpers will continue to be ignorant of what is happening with the most important investigation since, well, ever.

    The Warren Commission Report on the JFK assassination wasn’t addressing an attack on our elections.

    Neither was the Starr Report of the Benghazi hearings which were real witch hunts and resulted in nothing like what the 1/6 insurrection is revealing.

    I’ll try to keep the Trumpers updated as they don’t know jack about it on their own.

    But, they will distract, deflect and misinform as best they can. I give you Beeceeehaha and Sonya who thinks the election was stolen….still. Who knows what Beeceeehaha thinks since she really doesn’t? Twiiter does her thinking such as it is.

    Beeceehaha’s own vocabulary doesn’t go beyond “yawn”, “nerd”, “hahahahha”. With all of our modern high-tech information science avaiable, she puts out more disinformation than Russian bots and she might actually be one, if they’ll have her.

            For those who don’t get it, the current glaring hole in our electoral system is that if the electoral college vote certification can be disrupted long enough a deadline passes and the president is chosen by congress instead of the voters. Trump tried every possible way to disrupt the certification process, including touching off an attack on the capitol and then refusing to take any action to quell it (his responsibility as president).

            Basic clowns don’t care, but republicans who are of good conscience should. Trump and his fellow conspirators against the electoral process need to be purged from public life, including Mike Garcia and Kevin McCarthy.

  16. Has anyone ever seen an AVTA bus full or even half-full anywhere? Doesn’t seem to matter the time of day.

    I look inside every time I see one and there might be 3 or passengers even in the tandem buses. And, these are on 10th Street West near the AV Mall, y’know, a destination.

    If you’ve seen them full, where and what time of day? What am I missing?

    If the ridership is only so-so it might be cheaper to ditch the big buses and subsidize Uber fares that will take people exactly where they want to go, door to door.

    I don’t use the buses but I get annoyed when they block the right lane on 10th West just north of Rancho Vista Boulevard, the busiest intersection in the AV. Who thought that busstops there was a good idea without a turnout like further south where it’s not such a problem. Kinda backward.

    Anticipating this crowd, if you’re thinking that 10th West at RVB isn’t the busiest you’re missing the whole and don’t bother replying. Sheesh.

    Mayor Ledford told me that they were going to widen 10th where the stops are but how long has Hofbauer been in office? How time flies while nothing gets done. Being on all those boards and committees isn’t getting the mayor’s job done, Steve.

    • The route 2/3 buses are frequently pretty full. Westbound heavier in the morning, eastbound in the afternoon and evening.

      I’ve been on a route one bus that was standing room. It was quite a while ago and I can’t really remember time of day or what the heck I was doing on a one bus, but the people who stood for five or six miles of 10th St W were pretty grumpy. If I am remembering right that was back when the one bus was running on half hour intervals all day.

      I see pretty big groups of people waiting at the transfer stop for the 51 bus in the afternoons. It only runs on two hour intervals so I would guess that a lot of people who would ride it don’t, but even so it has to get pretty full when all those people pile on.

      As to the bus stops at 10th and Ave P, they are different because they are older. It’s a lot easier to put in the turn out stops that you like while developing the road than it is to retrofit them, and way back when when the mall was built that intersection wasn’t laid out with 21st century traffic in mind.

        Supposedly, there’s this thing called “traffic engineer”. Really? I give you the roundabout on 47th Street East. What a rotten idea. A regular intesection would have been fine with maybe right turn only lanes that simply merge onto 47th Street without stopping.

        My job overseeing the running of the world meets resistance.

        Maybe today’s the day I’ll see a full one. I believe in miracles like Kathryn Kuhlman.

        Maybe they could use 2 different size buses, small shuttles and the biguns for those busy routes.

        The big ones, especially the tandems, driving around empty can’t be a good economic model.
        even if full once or twice a day.

        Meanwhile, Lancaster has those rarely if ever used new bike lanes. As the Antelope Velly builds out in the next 50 years, we’ll be stuck with poor traffic designs like they have down below. Then, it will be costly to fix them. With those modified cloverleaf freeway interchanges on the remote crossings like Avenues D, E, and N, and others, they didn’t bother to do that with Avenue K and Palmdale Boulevard, y’know main thoroughfares. The Palmdale Boulevard one could have been done better but nooooooooo.

        • I think the real failure is that the city never did anything to push for an expansion of the retail traffic across a greater area. In 1990 when the mall was built it was the single source center for retail…and the available access was fine. Over half of all commercial development since has been accessed on the same streets.

          That means traffic expanding beyond what those streets were designed to handle. It also means that more than half of the population has to drive clear across the city to shop or work. That’s why the westbound bus fills up in the morning and the eastbound bus fills in the afternoon.

            That alone doesn’t justify those buses tying up the right lanes on 10th West just north of RVB. That stretch is crowded enough as it with the freeway offwranp dumping cars right there.

            Whoever is in charge of that should be forced to sit in a folding chair right there all day to observe their handiwrok.

            There are folks whose job it is to plan ahead when things like the mall are developed. What were thoses planners doing 5 days a week at their desks?

            We had a lot of room to grow back in 1990 but now those planners fixed it so it’s boxed in now and will be very expensive to do anything about it provided they give chit.

            Another example is the Tommy’s burger joint built right next to the 14. If they ever want to add another lane in the distance future, they’ll have to tear it down. Why do they allow development right next to a freeway in the first place?

      We ARE in a transitory period from fossil fuels to other energy and primary chemical sources… Energy is only a portion of the versatility of fossil fuels and their subsequent infusion into nearly all aspects of our everyday lives. Weaning ourselves off of this finite resource is necessary, but is not easy, by any stretch of the imagination. Would it not seem appropriate for any given government to take mitigating action for those industries that will be impacted?

The solutions need to be considered in both individual and combination formats and applied as part of an overall plan, with necessary mitigations included.

          As for your last sentence, I am uncertain to which effects you refer or assign blame for. If you are referring to the current fuel prices, that is a temporary market issue, not a policy one, as there is plenty of oil available.             Biden also froze all arms sales to the UAE.
            Bottom line if your not producing your own oil and exporting which we started to do under the trump administration, those folks control our oil.

            Shutting down the Keystone pipeline project and putting a freeze on federal oil and gas leases, ending ANWR exploration doesn’t help either.

            Bottom line it’s a mix of shutting down the economy for a pandemic and bunk fuel/energy policy.

            Stating current policy enacted have no bearing on current fuel and energy costs is silly.

OPEC, IEA, and Knoema all report similarly that there is still ample supply of liquid oil reserve and that part of the current price increases due to refinery maintenances should be easing soon.

            US “energy independence” would be very easy to induce, even without replacing fossil fuels as a significant source. All you have to do is allow your favorite “free market” to push price high enough that US production becomes profitable again.

            See, this may be beyond basic clownery, but US oil production is relatively high cost. The sources are lower purity and require much greater refining than other sources such as the Middle East. Fracking, all ecology issues aside, is a whole lot more complex and expensive than drilling a hole and dropping in a pump.

            High cost sources are only viable when lower cost sources have been consumed. So ultimately the “high gas prices” that you are whining about are the key to “energy independence” that you claim to want. It’s a “highly advanced” economic concept called supply and demand.

            PS: your “we were energy independent” is yet another lie told to the right wing propaganda willing audience by Donny Dingbat.

History shows that economic policies enacted by democrats are great for the economy and that if they go wrong they go wrong in the direction of overheating. If that happens the proper response isn’t panic, it is bubble jumping for the bold and grab and ride for the not. They will never approach the apex of per capita consumption that the US has achieved, since that would consume the entire planet in a matter of weeks…maybe days.

            They are also not likely to match the level of world dominating hegemony that the US held in the mid to late 20th century…nor have they shown any real interest in trying.     So the Republicans believe that in a conspiracy of thousands, spanning multiple states, the democrats “stole the election” through “massive voting fraud.” Dozens of lawsuits filed with no evidence found, Trump’s own attorney general leading a justice department investigation and finding no evidence, the fact that this was the most closely monitored election we have ever had; all of these facts are dismissed by republicans as just proving that the democrats are covering up the crime effectively, but it still happened.

    Meanwhile, while claiming that their enemies are capable of this truly stupendous coverup, indicating that the thousands of people required in such a conspiracy are all holding their mud and navigating the choppy waters of multiple investigations, the Trumpists can’t manage to contain their own much smaller conspiracy against the most amateur investigators.

    A Trump lawyer who advised Trump (inaccurately) that Mike Pence could and should just declare him president, who then claimed “oh that was just a hypothetical,” has now provided confirmation that he did actually advise Trump of that, and that the Trump inner circle believes that Pence betrayed them by not going along with their plan. How did this insurrectionist conspirator get caught?

    Was it investigations backing a lawsuit filed on behalf of a president and backed by infinite money, like the investigations that failed to crack the supposed conspiracy of democrats? No.

    Was it a partisan hack attorney general like Bill Barr leading the immense power of the justice department looking for any way to help out his president? No.

    It was some youngster approaching him out of the blue saying “c’mon, supporter to supporter why do you think Mike Pence didn’t make Trump the president?” and recording his answer.

    These are the people that think the democrats are capable of pulling off assembling a cast of thousands to commit what would be the greatest crime in history if it had actually happened.

    So once again here is my prediction: Mike Pence will eventually either testify to the January 6th investigation committee and absolutely bury Trump, or, Trump will drop pretty much everything he and his massive pile of PAC money are doing and go full time all the time endorsing the Mike Pence 2024 campaign. Pence has the goods, and he can and likely will blackmail Trump.

The redistricting is to be done by a non-partisan committee, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission. Unfortunately it’s not the Democratic legislature.

      I don’t know if Congress could pass a law that national elections be done electronically on the internet and doing away with polling places, mail in ballots, etc. Of course, Republicans would have to be kept away from the system. They are liars and cheaters.

      I still hear people saying that they like going to a polling place on election day. So? Things change. Then, they must go into the bank, wait in line, instead of using the ATM outside.

      Some people need to endure the costs of doing things their way such a cops and health care workers who don’t want the vaccine and lose their jobs.

      • It would be a very difficult case. The grounds for voting district lawsuits is civil rights law. “The eastside isn’t represented” is not against the law. The lack of voting districts meaning that only white candidates can win because a city wide election will be biased against them by the white majority, leaving the parts of the city where people of color are concentrated unrepresented; that’s the grounds you need to sue on. The problem is that if you try to run a non-white candidate Wrecks and his crew will just find a corruptible non-white candidate and get them onto the council as a puppet and shield against law suits.

        I’ve looked for paths on this more than a couple times, but so long as Wrecks controls the election process and can put whoever he needs in order to look compliant with the law onto his rubber stamp squad it’s a very hard climb. I think there is a path, through section 14052 of the elections code, to force the city to move the election day into being concurrent with statewide elections. That would be the first step.

        Section 14055: A voter who resides in a political subdivision where a violation of subdivision (a) of Section 14052 is alleged may file an action pursuant to that section in the superior court of the county in which the political subdivision is located.

        The only exemption Lancaster can claim is if they have “adopted a plan to consolidate a future election with a statewide election not later than the November 8, 2022, statewide general election.” It would not surprise me at all if Wrecks put in such a plan when the law came into effect in 2018 so he could milk another four years out before having to comply in 2022. Before going to the effort of filing on this you would need to check that. If they haven’t then every election they have done since 2018 has been conducted illegally.

      • You don’t need to sue. You just need an Initiative for a Charter Amendment. Do a little homework, and get some dedicated volunteers to gather registered voters signatures to file it on time. The opponents will be apoplectic and pull out all the stops to oppose it.

        • This is an option, but what are the chances of getting a fair election in Lancaster to pass the charter amendment initiative? I would expect turnout to be driven into the ground and the solid block of Wrecks’ bought voters at Lancaster Baptist to carry the day.

          Going out and collecting signatures is a lot easier than getting the people out to vote on some odd Tuesday. Could be worth a try though.

    At one point, decades ago, young Donald Trump being flush with his immense inheritance wanted to buy an NFL team. The owners of the then current franchises in the NFL agreed that no way in the world did they want to be in business with Donald Trump and turned him down flat. Trump, driven by bruised ego, swore revenge.

    Some years later the NFL monopoly was challenged by a new league; the USFL. Franchises were formed, players were drafted, games were played and money was made for two seasons. Things were mostly great, but one owner then sold their team…to Donald Trump. He just offered too much money to turn down. In fact, he threw in so much money that he got into a position of major influence with the other owners, who were really more like hobbyists than “in the business of football.”

    Guided by Trump, who was driven by revenge, the USFL embarked on a vendetta style “us or them” challenge against the NFL. They used Trump’s favorite weapon; lawsuits. Of course Trump has genuinely never bothered with getting good lawyers, and if he ever does he ignores their advise when they tell him he has no case. The USFL drowned itself in legal fees to eventually win their anti-trust case against the NFL. The court found that the NFL did indeed have monopoly powers and the NFL has since instituted numerous changes that they never really wanted; player’s union, undergrad eligibility… pretty much any time the NFL bumps against labor issues and loses it traces back to that precedent.

    However, the case that was made also was demonstrably not on any issue that actually affected the USFL. The court found that while the NFL had violated anti-trust laws no damage was done by that to the USFL. All the damage done was due to decisions that the USFL made in their effort to “go head to head” with the established league, against which they obviously stood no chance in such a head to head fight and the NFL had not exercised their monopoly in any way against the upstart league. They were awarded damages…of one dollar.

    That dollar would go towards paying the enormous legal fees that bankrupted the league. Donald Trump bought the check rather than the league cashing it. He had it framed and still displays it as a memento of his ‘victory.’ The bankrupted league ceased operations and the other owners of bankrupted teams lost millions; they did not feel victorious. The players who had thrown in with the new league all had their contracts voided; they did not feel victorious. The staff lost their jobs. Venues lost contracts. The losses were everywhere; Trump is perhaps the only person on the planet who considered the USFL v NFL case to have had a good result, because despite the millions he had burned away out of his inheritance and all the people he had harmed he did in fact hurt the NFL owners a bit.

    That’s the guy you are backing now. He lost an election, and his ego is bruised. He wants to hurt the United States; each and every one of us. You think, like the USFL owners did, that being “on his side” will somehow exempt you from his wrath. It won’t. Wise up.

        This is the problem with pointing out Trump’s business failures. In many cases they were actually just fraud schemes that stole from investors to line his pockets, so they didn’t really “fail.” And a lot of others were like his destruction of the USFL; he may have lost a fortune along with the rest of the investors, but with the money his father left him he could afford the losses and did so willingly just to serve his vendetta, so they can’t really be called failures either.

            You can write it all off to voter apathy and walk away, but the fact is that elected officials have a responsibility under the law to combat voter apathy, not encourage it. So in fact what you are observing is just one more aspect of the corruption. Wrecks literally commands a number of votes, through the corrupted Lancaster Baptist Church. That number is sufficient to carry the day for him, so long as he can maintain such a suppressed turnout. One goal of bringing whatever light I can to his actions is to generate an outrage/apathy ratio that can overcome that number.

            Will it work?

He was a CONSTANT supply of pork. Everyone in the AV who has ever had a job in aerospace owes that job to Buck McKeon. Pork, pork, pork, lovely pork.

            A back door deal where the contracts for the building of that elevated highway are granted to companies that are operated by friends of the mayor, or relatives of the senator, or people who hire the mayor’s fire safety consulting firm to “inspect” their industrial marijuana grow; that’s corruption. Getting investment directed into their state/district to benefit the people they represent is a big part of the representative’s job. It is what we elect them to do. Directing that investment more specifically, to benefit particular individuals who are somehow ‘connected,’ that’s corruption.

  96. Every day I get more amazed at the number of political pundits that are apparently not anticipating ill effects for the GOP from the big lie. They track all the normal indicators and try to read the tea leaves on the upcoming elections as if there was no attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of the US.

    Look at coverage of the upcoming elections in Virginia. Close polling, trending democratic over however many cycles, how results have tracked with presidential popularity, blah blah blah. NONE of that is going to matter unless Virginia democrats are just abjectly stupid in the basics of politics. I doubt that they are.

    Both sides have their “believers.” The GOP has acid tested, heavily purified believers that believe anything their party claims, so long as it ends in “and it will make the democrats heads explode.” You can tell them straight out “this will lead to your bankruptcy and death, but it will get your democrat neighbors first” and they will be all for it. Corralling democrats is more like herding cats, usually. But Trump has brought them around. Progressive or moderate, every democrat will rally to defend democracy from totalitarianism.

    Then there is that part of the electorate that actually makes the difference; the vast blank canvas of the uninterested and uninformed. Appealing to them is what both sides know they have to do, and it isn’t easy. These are people who will turn off the news when “politics,” meaning basically anything other than sports or celebrity gossip comes on. They tend to subscribe to “all politicians lie anyway” and not listen very much.

    That’s why this election cycle is wildly abnormal and historical trend based prediction is a fool’s game. There are different kinds of lies, and everyone knows it. The typical politician is festooned with “failed promise” lies. Promising pie in the sky with ice cream has always been the path to electoral success, so that is what happens to all of them regardless of party. That is not the same as the obvious gaslighting the electorate the GOP is committed to. A huge swath of the Virginia electorate is the Washington DC suburbs. Even the most blissful ignorer of politics there is not going to buy “oh yeah that was a peaceful visit, like regular tourists.”

    The Virginia airwaves are about to be bombarded with clips of the GOP candidates telling whopping obvious lies. Not the “empty promises that will be recognized as lies when I don’t even take a swing at doing the obviously impossible” kind of lies, but the “you can’t trust your own eyes, I’m telling you that you actually saw Santa Claus not your father in a red suit with a pillow” style lies that insult the intelligence of anyone older than four. That will take a devastating toll on the GOP candidates. The voting should split as pure Trumpists v literally everyone else by the time the voting actually happens.

    It is becoming pretty obvious that not only did Trump actively plan to overturn the legitimately elected constitutional government of the United States by any means, including fomenting the violent attack on the congress, but he was clumsy enough about it that the evidence is going to border on overwhelming. The investigation is just getting started and they already have not just threads to follow to the smoking gun, it’s already in a steel cable net and being dragged into the boat.

    What if there were one man who could just drop the death blow testimony, revealing a conversation in which Trump openly embraced “constitution be damned, if you help we can pull this off”? Just for the sake of argument, let’s say that such a man not only exists, but he believes that the GOP can be “redeemed” if it were freed of Trump, and that such redemption could make it possible for a republican to win the white house…and that if he played it right he could be their nominee.

    Mike Pence is obviously setting up for a presidential campaign in 2024. Unlike other Republicans, he isn’t playing with the “what if Trump runs” question. He just ignores it and goes about the business of getting ready to run.

    I think Pence is holding not only the “end you politically” card, but legitimately could provide the testimony that would potentially have Trump convicted and imprisoned. I expect him to blackmail Trump out of the race and into an endorsement.

    Well it seems to me and some other citizens of Lancaster that he earned this right by being voted by the majority into this position.

      The immigrants legal or otherwise didn’t invade Iraq based on lies, didn’t pull that Enron scandal that did damage to California (Enron was based in Texas after all), didn’t crash the economy in 2008-9, didn’t delay its response to COVID while promoting the election fraud lie and more.

      No. On balance, immigrants, Muslims, Mexicans, gays, pregnant women looking to have abortions, main stream media, Hollywood, AOC and liberals didn’t do all that.

      Republicans did that. They can’t govern. With Republicans, it’s like letting a drunk be the designated driver of the United States. They eff up constantly and rather than learning how to govern, their energies are spent blaming Democrats for the problems they caused.*

Today it was reported that the Rex led effort to deprive Michael Rives of his fairly elected position on the AV Hospital board will continue with a taxpayer funded lawsuit to overturn the election results. Rex and his cronies insist that Rives could have a conflict of interest. Funny how there was no concern of a conflict of interest when Rex bought the McMahon’s furniture building for his law practice while he was director of the redevelopment board. It is illegal for a redevelopment board member to purchase property in a redevelopment zone, which was the case with McMahon’s. What did Rex do? He ‘stepped aside’ from the board for a minute. Why couldn’t Rives do the same in a vote that had a conflict of interest? It happens all the time at Lancaster city council meetings where the well to do West Side hand picked councilmembers vote on projects that affect the many properties they own.

    Rex and Lancaster’s power elite are hypocrites.

  128. A California hospital is transferring all of their patients out ro ‘partner hospitals in the region.’ It is “an abundance of caution” response to a wildfire.

    In preparing for the hurricane Louisiana hospitals did not transfer their patients. This wasn’t because they lack caution or concern, there was just nowhere for them to go. The other hospitals in the region are all packed full with covid patients being treated for illness that could have been prevented.

    In a hospital that is without power, having problems with their emergency generator, and suffered structural damage…they still are not transferring patients. There is still nowhere for them to go. Most likely they are just going to stay there and die.
