LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday addressed an online video that shows a deputy pointing a gun at a man’s head as the man is lying on the ground in Lancaster [view the video below].
[the_ad id=”96478″]
According to an LASD news release:
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is aware of a video circulating social media platforms depicting an incident that occurred on April 30th, 2021, near the intersection of Division Street and East Avenue J in the City of Lancaster.
During the incident, a deputy detained an armed suspect. A crowd of bystanders began to form, and additional deputies arrived before the suspect was taken into custody.
As a result of that interaction, the Sheriff’s Department has directed an in-depth review of our policy and tactics.
The suspect was in possession of a loaded handgun with an extended high capacity magazine. The suspect was not injured during the incident. The incident was captured on the deputy’s body worn camera.”
Local activists said the incident is just another example in a long history of unconstitutional policing in the Antelope Valley.
“Not only were these actions racist and violent, but they violated multiple department policies and defied a previous settlement agreement between the Los Angeles [County] Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Justice. This is nothing new to the Antelope Valley…” said Christian Green, the local coordinator of a campaign calling on Palmdale and Lancaster to cancel the cities’ contracts with the sheriff’s department.
The Cancel the Contract campaign will hold a protest from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, at 501 West Lancaster Boulevard. The rally will feature nearly a dozen guest speakers addressing police use of force in the Antelope Valley and calling for the Department of Justice to modify its 2015 Antelope Valley Settlement Agreement.

“Go ahead, punk. Make my day.” It’s a good thing seeing LASD’s finest taking down the hoodlums, the punks, the brothas and the gangbangers. All the better the harder they fall, seeing them taken down with style, conviction.
Jay says
Totally agree! Officers encounter life and death situations everyday. Unfortunately, people find any reason to say that they were discriminated against law enforcement authorities. If you obey the law we would not have so much violence and would have peaceful community; it’s sad that the AV is starting to look like South LA and Watts. Activist need to stop trying to make a name for themselves and they need to stop condoning this type of behaviors. You put our LASD deputies and our communities in more danger. WE NEED Law and order. Read the law, “Carrying a load gun with an extended magazine” I’m glad this “youth” did not do any damage because he could of took the life of someone innocent. Carrying a gun is against the law and prohibited in the State of California. The outcome to this situation could have been much different. LASD did a great job! Keep it up, Our families supports you! Fight for justice for law enforcement not for criminals.
Tim Scott says
If “officers encounter life and death situations every day” how come exactly one has been killed in the line of duty? The fact is that being a cop has a lower fatality rate than being a garbageman and is about on par with most construction trades. The whole “well ya just gotta let us beat up and kill people as a perk of the job” line is such absolute BS that even cops very seldom try to use it…just the baton polishers.
Kim says
How many other professions die of another person killing them?
Tim Scott says
Dead is dead, and when the odds of winding up dead are vanishingly small what difference does how make? You think getting crushed by a garbage truck is FUN?
José says
Hmpf! A baton against a gun? Don’t be silly by comparing a police officer /sheriff deputy with a construction worker who die in an accident at work due to a fall or a power tool use! Cops risk their lives to save ours .
Tim Scott says
Cops don’t risk their lives to save anything or anyone. That’s why being a cop is statistically safer than being a construction worker.
Effrim says
Pretty much everyone’s had it. Thoroughly disgusted over preferential treatment afforded ANTIFA, BLM playing the race card to justify their crime spree, consensus now is, time to push back. Hard. Real hard.

Humblemost apologies, Tim. But, democrats want a race war. Though this won’t fit their narrative. A little twisting, a little subterfuge, some disinformation repeated several times, they’ll shoehorn it in, somehow.
Claire says
I’m the other Claire that didn’t post this comment. I don’t believe Democrats want a race war.
Melinda says
In desperation to public divert attention from themselves, yes indeed, Democrats are, in fact, deliberately fueling a race war. Good for advertising, your mainstream media is too happy to accommodate them.
Edward says
I cant begin to fathom how this incident has created a circus of complete stupidity. Absolutely pathetic that in today’s climate LASD is forced to respond, publically to this. The man had a LOADED, ILLEGAL (just through specifications, with an extended magazine, not taking into account if he’s a felon) FIREARM and the deputy had the audacity to point his weapon at him? HOW STUPID ARE SOME OF YOU?! These rough men and women face truly evil people who want to KILL THEM, on a daily basis! Uncle Jack said it best…”I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said “thank you” and went on your way.” Thanks LASD Lancaster and Palmdale for patrolling one of the roughest beats in the country and keeping the evil at Bay. You men and women have the most thankless job on the planet and you all deserve a raise. P.S. I’m not a cop nor do I come from a law enforcement family for those who think this is one of them.

It’s never disinformation or propaganda democrats of the mainstream media suppress, and censor. It’s the truth they cannot bear. And, they don’t want you having any of it. You can’t go soft on crime, AND go soft on our Founding Fathers’ 2nd amendment. If policymakers do both, home invasion quintuples.
Your police have their work cut out for them. Violent criminals, repeat offenders with mile long rap sheets wholly devoid a moral center, no compunction whatsoever, strung out on God knows what, brazen disregard for the laws we’ve all agreed to abide by, these are people we need our police getting tough with.
If your police are impeded, from pushing back; getting tough? Then, we’re the ones who inevitably must.
If you want police mollycoddle these animals? Then, you’ll have no choice but empower law abiding citizens a robust second amendment, and a stand your ground privilege.
My concern as of this writing, my good neighbors here in Lancaster having gone full whacked-out democrat BLM/ANTIFA berserk, prone to false testimony, these are not people who are going to have our backs. Someone breaks into your house, these are people likely to blame you — on account you’re white, and you deserved it.
Dod Holiday says
You’ve gone soft in the head, Charloote.
Why do you need police protection what with all the guns the right wingers have? There are more guns than police. More guns than people in this country.
So, you should be happy to defund the police given your thinking.
Oh, the home invasion meme. Yeah, it’s an epidemic.
Your ilk have the guns. You don’t care much about people who don’t have guns.

I support LASD. I grew up in Watts and I do not want to see the Antelope Valley become the hell-hole that my hometown was for a long period of time. I will do whatever I can to support the LASD. Grandma Long time resident says
I’m Latina/Democrat I support LASD %100 percent. Stop committing crimes and you’ll be fine, simple!
Ron says
Thank the Lord Jesus Christ for Our Sheriff Department. Want to live a thug life bad things are bound to happen. Most likely a felon too. He could have been planning a robbery.
Tim Scott says
You might be planning a robbery Ron. Maybe you need to be beaten down and threatened execution style to find out?
Ron says
Well Tim Scott I dont feel sorry for these guys one bit. You live a thug life expect to have bad encounters with the Police. Hes young enough hes still got a chance to straighten up his life. Hope he makes better decisions in the future. If not hes going to get the same type of results. I feel sorrow for our Law Enforcement that has to deal with these people.
Tim Scott says
Sure Ron. How about look at the facts. Law abiding black people have about eight times as many encounters with police as law abiding white people, so your opening statement is just a bald faced lie. You need to say “live a thug life, OR be black, expect to have bad encounters with the police.” Although even that isn’t true if you talk to white thugs…they very seldom have any encounters with police at all, and they’ll laugh and tell you straight out that it’s because they are white.
I dislike you for your blatant racism Ron, but it’s when you make these cowardly pretense posts that I really despise you. You have no interest in ‘law and order’…you’re just about having cops that will leave you alone and beat up the people you are scared of because they don’t look like you.

Great job LASD. JERK SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD A GUN!!
MARTI OVERFIELD KCSD. Retired
Tim Scott says
You referring to the guy threatening execution style murder of the disarmed suspect? Yeah, he’s a jerk and shouldn’t have a gun. Good call.
If that’s not who you meant it’s a good thing you retired but too bad you made it that far.
MEH says
POINT OUT WHERE THIS WAS REPORTED IN THIS ARTICLE,OH WAIT YOU CAN’T…THAT EXISTS SOLELY IN YOUR TINY CRANIUM.
Brain Surgeon says
Timmy, You need guidance. Saying “too bad you made it that far” is a terrorist threat.
Beecee says
Delusional dreams of anybody he doesn’t agree with being injured or killed is this guys standard protocol.
Tim Scott says
Or maybe it meant that he, like his new hero here, should have been canned long before he reached retirement.
But sure, make a “terrorist threat” charge and maybe get the cops to shoot me next. I mean, that’s what you want, right? To be able to kill anyone you disagree with without getting your hands dirty?
I respect cops more than I respect baton polishing losers like you.
Love Tim Scott says
Disarmed suspect. Did you watch the video? He was armed and weapon was removed Watch the video; at ~1.08 you will see he is armed. Looking forward to your response. And for the too bad you made it that far comment….. To bad you did not sink in you sub during your Navy days…….
Tim Scott says
So lemme get this straight…you are saying his partner is standing there with his back turned…and the suspect is still armed? That’s what you are trying to defend as good police work?
You have no clue! says
Omg I don’t understand people…. You obviously no nothing of protocol. His partner needs to ensure he controls the outburst of the public and to make sure they do not get attacked from the back as they are waiting for back-up. Goodness I”ll pray for you!
Jim says
Who says he didn’t have a second gun on him? The deputy’s gun was holstered once the guy was handcuffed.
Stinger says
This incident was directly exacerbated by the verbally assaultive crowd making for an unsafe environment to take the suspect into custody quickly. More simply put, the suspect ended up with a gun to his head and laying on the hot pavement for so long BECAUSE of the yelling crowd, as the deputy now had to wait for backup to make the arrest safely for himself AND the suspect.
Knee jerk protests are a bane to the BLM cause and hurt their cause for justice.
Tim Scott says
Maybe if the LASD didn’t have a performance record of being dangerously out of control they wouldn’t have to consider the citizenry as a “hostile crowd.”
Stinger says
Tim, law enforcement is not what you see on TV. It can be a dirty, ugly, and violent business – and that’s when the officers do it right. So, there are procedures in place to try to get some control over a frequently uncontrollable situation as soon as possible. It may have bad optics to some, but the procedures were followed correctly. Again, the verbally abusive and, yes, racist (check right at the end with the ‘massa’ insult) crowd made the arrest unsafe with the personnel at hand, so backup was necessary. If the people there had been quietly videoing the scene and not trying to interfere with the arrest, it would likely have gone a lot better.
Sorry, Tim. I respect your opinion, and I agree that the LASD has a looong way to go to improve in both performance and image, but I’m calling this one as within reasonable policy for the circumstances.
Monica G. says
“citizenry” lol…you’re a riot!
…yeah…like any of those people pay taxes, sit on juries, vote and can hold a job???
Ron says
Cops doing their job. All could have been avoided if he wasnt carrying a gun and obeying the law. WE SUPPORT OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!
Ron says
I feel for the Cops that have to deal with these thugs. Dont want to get shot obey the laws. Dont carry a gun . Suspect most likey a Felon. Dont run, dont fight them, dont resist. Stop commiting crimes.!!! How come Asians dont seem to have a problem with the police? Maybe they study . Do homework and go to the Medical School and become DOCTORS. Maybe the Black Culture is the problem and needs to change its Bad Behavior. All this would go away if people would learn to behave and stop commiting crimes.
Pro Reform says
A protest over an arrest of a man who was carrying a gun illegally hurts the cause of bringing true police reform. No matter what Rex might suggest about carrying a gun to shoot the homeless if they try to rob you, it is illegal to carry a gun around without a concealed weapon permit, the kind of permit that special people like Rex and his spouse get. If this individual had a permit that’s one thing. But the chances are 99.999 percent that he did not.
Police reform is needed. Crying wolf hurts the cause.
Tim Scott says
The protest isn’t about the arrest. Department policy, as it is in most departments, says that you draw your weapon to have it ready but you don’t actually point it at people unless you need to shoot them.
The guy face down on the ground with a deputy kneeling on him has already been disarmed. The gun to the back of the head execution threat is bullying, plain and simple, and to let a deputy scoff at policy and the law just because the person being terrorized is probably a criminal is pretty much the root of the problem.
My only unavoidable involvement with the local sheriff’s department was when I had a car stolen. The punk that came to inform me that my car had been recovered gleefully told me how they had caught “the perp” in my car and beaten the snot out of him. I guess he expected that I was like these commenters and would think that was some form of ‘justice.’
This is a similar situation. A guy carrying an illegal firearm taken off the street, great, I am all for it. A lunatic thug getting his jollies threatening execution style murders under protection of the sheriff’s department and the all powerful police union? Yeah, hard pass on that.
Donald Miller says
Good job LASD! Well done…thank you for all you do to keep the Antelope Valley safe!

AV supports LASD says
Great job LASD, The great majority of the AV supports you guys and loves you. Sometimes these criminals need a reality check to let them know who is really in control. But I guess with all the BLM bull* they believe they could run around and do whatever they want without any consequences. Grow up and follow the law like the rest of us.

Lynn Witt says
it’s really ridiculous anymore. an armed thug with a loaded, illegal weapon; and idiots automatically scream, yell, and stamp their feet because law enforcement responds CORRECTLY and PROPERLY. so if this thug was to shoot their kid or grandma because police are forced to pat mister thug on the head and send him on his way; what would they have to say then?
Tim Scott says
Where in “correctly and promptly” does it say “arresting officer after disarming suspect threaten to commit execution style murder”? I must have missed that in the department policies. Please point it out so we can get that changed.
MEH says
This guy would screech the loudest when he needs a cop, typical knuck cuck.
MEH says
Where in “correctly and promptly” does it say “arresting officer after disarming suspect threaten to commit execution style murder”?< LOLOLOLOL WHAT?
Luca Brazzi says
I agree Tim. Even though I usually support law enforcement, in this case the gun to the head bothers me and I can’t see where it would be warranted. The cop should be disciplined and re-trained, or fired if he has a history.
Thank u LASD says
If u watch the entire video the guy still tried to resist when the other deputies were trying to handcuff him. Deputy was warranted in what he did simple as that. I agree that some arrests do have way too much force behind them, considering I’ve been a victim of it once before, but in most cases its not over excessive.
Dan says
Tim, you can try to change the narrative all you want, but its on video. The guy wasn’t disarmed until the fourth deputy arrived. The deputy holstered his gun as the fourth deputy controlled the right arm. the deputy reached under the guy and pulled the gun out from under him. The deputies did an excellent job of controlling the guy and making sure he did could not do anything that would have made this worse.
Stinger says
As is frequently the case when dealing with law enforcement issues, you are hyperbolizing, Tim. Where do you hear that threat made by the deputy in the video? You don’t. Of course, to be fair, you can’t really hear much of what the deputies might be saying due to the yelling racists taking the video, killing any opportunity for actually hearing what’s going on for this ‘documentation.’
The deputies performed per specifications. Just because you had a negative encounter with an officer from a different department at another time does not make all encounters wrong. In this situation, the deputy holding the suspect at gun point (which would have been called in as such, due to the volatility of having a firearm aimed at any human). The deputy’s only control over the suspect was by verbal command and lethal threat, as the crowd’s interference made gaining control over the suspect’s hands and, by extension, his weapon. Had your irresponsible friends chosen to simply records and document as witnesses, instead of creating an incident of their own, this dangerous period of time of holding the suspect at gunpoint would have been minimal, as his partner would have been able to deal with the arrest at hand, rather than having to try to maintain protection of the arrest scene until backup could arrive.
Might I suggest that you take the opportunity to take the Citizens’ Academy offered by the local stations at your next opportunity? I believe that you may be able to get a better perspective on the duties and dangers involved, which would illuminate your knowledge on what was actually happening, policy-wise.
Tim Scott says
Let me ask you something Stinger…
If I press a gun to the back of your head while you are restrained would I have to say the words “execution style murder” for you to recognize the threat?
If the “deputy performed to specifications” then I was lied to by the sheriff’s department. According to them their policy is NOT to draw their weapon as a threat. If they draw their weapon it is to “a more ready position” but not threatening. This was their defense when I had a cop draw a gun on me for being rude. He kept it pointed at the ground, the coward just felt mike he needed it in his hand instead of his holster because a citizen that didn’t love him for his badge was too scary otherwise.
So he was following policy and I had no case ONLY because he didn’t point it at me as a threat. If there is a GENUINE danger to themselves or citizens, they shoot. If there is not, they don’t point their guns at people as a threat. That’s policy.
By the way, here we have a very similar situation. “Yo, let him up the pavement’s hot” isn’t a threat. Your heroic pal there should have just done his job.
Back when I was working I at one time had a job that would routinely involve members of the public trying to tell me how to do it better, and they were frequently willing to tell me that they hated people in my line of work, to my face. Guess what, they weren’t threatening me, I didn’t feel so scared that I needed a gun in my hand like a security blanket, and I didn’t let them interfere with me doing my job.
Tim Scott says
Hey Stinger…I replied, it’s awaiting moderation.
But, I’m vaccinated, and I think pretty soon I’ll be able to get back to hanging out at Starbucks when I want to. You seem like someone that could hold up your end of an intelligent conversation.
