Driver, 19, killed in single-vehicle crash on 14 Freeway in Palmdale [updated]

by City News Service • April 25, 2020

PALMDALE – A 19-year-old Lancaster man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale, authorities said.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, on the northbound freeway near Avenue M, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorist was driving a 2001 Subaru Forester northbound to the Avenue M off-ramp, approaching a curve, when unsafe speed caused him to fail to make the curve and leave the roadway. The Subaru overturned several times before coming to a stop on the west dirt shoulder of the off-ramp, the CHP reported.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is encouraged to call the CHP’s Antelope Valley area office at 661-948-8541.

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Lester L. Mejia of Lancaster, according to coroner’s Lt. Nani Cholakians.

Prayers out to the family. My brothers worked with him and they always said good things about him. From what I gather, he was caring and very funny–they were even talking about filming some comedy sketches. I never met the guy, but I know this–my brothers thought very highly of him and his mom. To see them as affected as they are by this news, says a lot about his person. Prayers and condolences to the family.

Aunt Debbie, No matter how you feel or what you think you may know, you can keep those kind of comments to yourself. Very disrespectful.

He was my grandson , the most noble person I have ever known, he has left a big emptiness in our lives, we hope in god that we we’ll see him again in the Resurrección day.

He’s my cousin. Everyone is slowly being notified . We are all in shock and trying to figure out what the next steps are. Please keep us in your prayers. He will be dearly missed. He was an amazing person with the biggest heart . He was both of my brothers’ best friend, he gave me my laptop for college, and he really wanted to go to film school. He did some amazing videos, took some amazing photos And He was so funny. I will miss him very much and will see him in heaven again one day.

I will pray for him and his family. It’s the right thing to do IMHO. I myself was in a very bad accident a few years ago in Lancaster where I almost died. I was in AV hospital for nearly a week. It was a life changing experience for sure so I can totally relate.

The difference between him and you debbie is that he was loved by many, which I’m sure you’ve never experienced since you cant seem to show remorse for those that have lost someone important in there lives. Dont say things you’re not involved in, so you can rot away with you’re pointless hurtful comments.
