PALMDALE – Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer was recognized at the League of California Cities’ Mayors and Council Members Department Meeting at the League’s Annual Conference last month for successfully completing the League’s prestigious Torch Program’s Level III.

The Torch Level III is the highest achievement level offered by the League through their educational program for mayors and council members who are seeking continuing education to enhance their own knowledge and skills in order to better serve the public. Mayors and councilmembers who have reached Leadership (Level I), Advanced Leadership (Level II) and Leadership in Action (Level III) of the Leadership Academy were honored at the League’s Annual Conference with a certificate and torch lapel pin.

Hofbauer was also reappointed to the League’s Board of Directors position, representing the League’s Desert Mountain Division cities.

Laura Morales, Regional Public Affairs Manager for the League of California Cities, appeared at the Nov. 5 Palmdale City Council Meeting to recognize Hofbauer’s achievements.

Congratulations J.J. Murphy, as the new City Manager of Palmdale! You don’t need anyone to vouch for you, as you stand on your own, highly qualified. You have an outstanding resume, and you have been Assistant City Manager since April 2018. City Managers move around a lot, but I hope you stay awhile!

With all the devestating fires that have burned in California leaving thousands homeless and emotionally scarred for life it seems not only insensitive but unreal that someone would be recognized and rewarded ( given cert and torch lapel pin ) for ” completing a project” called ” Torch Project III” doesn’t it?

Is this the clean up ( sanitation ) crew?

I’m happy so far with what Mayor Hofbauer has, and is doing for Palmdale. If the commenters aren’t aware of all he does selflessly, well, I know you are the few that tat have your minds closed.

We are assuming that all comments praising Hofbauer with similar words are from Hofbauer himself until shown otherwise.

Now, work on trying to sound unque and using ‘different” words. We’ll see how that goes.

I was at the graduation ceremonies for the Palmdale Partnership Academy tonight. Very moving to see so many dedicated citizens and staff members. City Manager Jim Purtee was especially inspiring. When I graduated a few years back i got a picture with the City Manager and the Mayor. But I guess nowadays the mayor is too pompous to attend such functions. Probably had a meeting with his handlers in Lancaster that he was required to be at.

All the (good guy) City Managers like James Purtee, and the (good guy) City Manager before him from 2012 to 2015, and the (good guy) City Manager before him, and so on.

Tim, I graduated from Palmdale Partners Academy in December 2015, and my thoughts about the state of Palmdale are much more positive. I think Mayor Hofbauer is doing a fine job so far, and I respect the voters choice.

Have you ever actually MET Hofbauer?

Yes Tim, Homes 4 Families in Palmdale. Volunteers building homes, and he along with many others helped build.

            November 11, 2019 at 7:49 am

Why should it? I’m not the mayor. I’m not in a position to loot your city.

          • I will stay says

            November 11, 2019 at 10:06 am

He is not looting the city, but I realize you and several others that post on here do not respect the voters that elected Mayor Hofbauer, ( by over 2,000 voters). It’s your choice to distort the truth on here, but I as well as many others will work with him while he is mayor. If he fails to work out, then the voters will vote him out. This is why we vote, Tim C.

            November 11, 2019 at 11:40 am

Wrecks Parris wasn’t looting the city his first eleven months in office either…but he was definitely laying the groundwork. Just like Hofbauer is. Those who turn a blind eye to history allow it to repeat.

I will stay: Steve Hofbauer won by 4,000 votes when all was counted. Next election is November 2020.

          • Tim Scott says

            November 11, 2019 at 1:06 pm

4000 votes at the end of a slander and libel campaign run on his behalf by Wrecks’ little stooge Loa, who Hofbauer then rewarded at city expense. Page one of the Wrecks Parris guide to looting your city: always reward your cronies out of the city coffers rather than your own pocket.

By the way, does anyone else find it hilarious that Hofbauer and his internet stooges are now all excited about my last name, which pretty much everyone at city hall has always known? I mean, Hornblower has been blathering for years about how I’m “just an internet troll and not involved” but all of a sudden they’re playing “I’ve got a secret” rather than just acknowledging “oh, hey, yeah clearly that whole bit of blather was dead wrong.” What makes it doubly funny is that the reason Sellout Steve is just now finding out who I am is because his participation as a city council member was strictly showing up for meetings he got paid for, while all the staff and people who show up day in day out have known me for years.

    • Dan Becker says

      November 11, 2019 at 12:59 pm

The genius Mayor is responsible for our city manager retiring with 2 years left on his contract. The Hof’s sellout has backfired and it opens the door for a Lancaster manager to take his place. His ego is unbelievable and that makes him easy to control by outsiders. God help our city!

      • I will stay says

        November 11, 2019 at 5:30 pm

Dan Becker: Shame on you, but you fit right in the rest of the them on here. J.J. Murphy, is well qualified for the job of City Manager of Palmdale. You know who J.J. Murphy is don’t you? Apparently you also don’t know why Jim Purtee is retiring early. This is why nothing should be believed here!

        • Tim Scott says

          November 11, 2019 at 10:22 pm

I’ve met JJ Murphy, and he has Jim Purtee vouching for him, so I’m not going to panic over the change. However, we all should be aware that the final collapse of Lancaster started with Wrecks sliding in a crony as city manager. Sellout Steve is following Wrecks’ playbook, so changes in the city manager’s office need to be watched extremely closely.

        • Art F. says

          November 12, 2019 at 3:58 am

City Managers change jobs frequently, and it’s not any different in Palmdale. I know J.J. Murphy and he is very qualified to be the City Manager of Palmdale. He has been assistant City Manager since April 2018. Dan Becker is unaware of what is going on in his own city.

          • Tim Scott says

            November 12, 2019 at 4:22 pm

Mayor Hofbauer knows our city well. Being on the planning commission in Palmdale, and a long list of serving this community for many years. There are some that refuse to accept the voters choice.

I agree Great Job. Bishop is the one that needs to go. He is Marv’s puppet. Marv is a bully and not very bright. Palmdale doesn’t need a Little Marv in any seat of authority.

        November 7, 2019 at 3:57 pm

So, being in service to Rex Parris is a good thing for a Palmdale mayor. Is that correct?

And, don’t give us that “refusing to accept the voters’ choice’ business. Hofbauer didn’t accept the voters’ choice when Mayor Ledford was in office and ran a dirty campaign accusing him of corruption with no trial or verdict. Did you say anything then?

Yeah. Keep pushing that bull that you do so well.

    • Eyes on Hofbauer says

      November 8, 2019 at 8:44 am

Patting yourself on the back again, Steve?

      Who are you kidding?

Here. List your accomplishments as mayor and not stuff that Mayor Ledford initiated that you take credit for now. You’d better do something or Rex will replace you next year. And, if you do something that is in service of Rex like the CCA, it will be used against you in the next election.

If you think he’s bad, check out Bishop and Loa. Both bought and paid for by Rex and Marv. They are complete sell outs. Palmdale citizens deserve representatives who fight for them, not Rex and Marv.

    November 7, 2019 at 9:04 am

It’s all about him. Just how does this improve the lives of Palmdale residents?

What has he done in the year he has been in office and the Sprouts project doesn’t count as it was in the works before he became mayor.

    • Mark Alvarado says

      November 7, 2019 at 2:56 pm

Speaking of the Sprouts project? What’s going on with that? ***crickets***

They should be putting the Sprouts in the old Mervyn’s store (Forever 21) in the mall that is now empty, rather than plowing over more desert.

It would be nice to have something at the AV Mall besides chincy furniture stores.

They’ve closed off the right westbound lane of Rancho Vista Boulevard from 20th Street West to almost 30th Street West. I guess that’s for infrastructure improvements for the Sprouts project.

        • Quig says

          November 8, 2019 at 7:52 am

We drove on Rancho Vista Blvd. to 30th street west and turned right to go home. It is not closed off; they are expanding the streets, including 30th street west. A much needed project, which is an improvement to Palmdale.

    • Laughing says

      November 7, 2019 at 3:53 pm

Well, the answer the question, “Just how does this improve the lives of Palmdale residents?”, if he received training on how to be a better mayor then one might assume it includes topics like how to interact with the populace, how to budget better, how to decide which project is more important to the most benefit of the people.
To answer the question, “What has he done in the year he has been in office”, he at least received training to be a better mayor…. also known as a public servant.

Hopefully he does well as a mayor for Palmdale.

      • Eyes on Hofbauer says

        November 11, 2019 at 11:45 am

Laughing. Are you kidding us? How long had he been on the City Council?

        Wasn’t he Vice Mayor?

Now, he has to spend a year training to be mayor. Are you kidding us?

What has he accomplished since becoming mayor? I’ve asked that a few times and NO ANSWERS ARE FORTHCOMING. So, he’s accomplished being trained to be mayor after all of his time on the council and as Vice Mayor. He must be very slow.

        Are you kidding us?

The new usernames supporting Hofbauer are quite suspect.

        • Laughing says

          November 12, 2019 at 1:15 pm

Well, my username has been me, a sole entity for most of the length of time I have been using it here on the site. There was a brief period where someone tried to be me… they were not up to the task.
You asked a lot of questions that I have to assume you know the answers to and should have been statements instead.
I have no idea what he has actually done out side of what this article states as I am not a resident of Palmdale, and do not follow him around.

@Laughing. You’ve been here a while. I’m referring to all the brand shiny new user names that popped up to support Hofbauer and can’t supply any accomplishments that he’s done.

What about his being on the council and Vice Mayor left him unprepared to be mayor and in need of training?

Is he simply slow or is it the case of the Peter Principle?

    • Last, First says

      November 12, 2019 at 5:04 pm
