LA County sheriff’s detective sentenced in child sex case

by The AV Times Staff • August 8, 2019

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County sheriff’s detective was sentenced Thursday to three years in state prison for having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met when she came forward to report that she had been a victim of a sexual assault.

Neil David Kimball, 46, was also ordered to register as a sex offender in connection with his guilty plea last month to one felony count each of committing a lewd act on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse.

Kimball — who was working at the time as a detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau — met the teenager in 2017 when she made her sexual assault report, and befriended her, according to a statement released by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

The crimes occurred in Ventura County in late 2017, according to prosecutors.

Kimball was arrested last November by the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau following an in-house investigation. He has remained behind bars since then.

The sheriff’s department released a statement Thursday afternoon saying it fully cooperated with Ventura County prosecutors and “has now obtained court documents to proceed with his (Kimball’s) immediate termination.”

“We hold our employees to the highest ethical standard and when that standard is not met, there must be consequences,” the statement says.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Kimball investigated dozens of child molestation cases during his time with the sheriff’s Special Victims Unit.

Unreal, this has got to be a joke? Right? Not only is he an officer and held at a much higher standard than your normal person but he worked with special victims of girls/ women who have been raped. That in itself is absolutely sickening. He got 3 years that’s got to be a joke becuz it sure in the hell isn’t justice not by a long shot. So cops can pretty much do whatever they want I can assume. Oh I don’t have to assume it’s in black and white and written in the paper he got 3 measly years. And the pedophile cop psychiatrist got like 98 years which is perfectly suitable I suppose even though a slow torturous slow death might make me feel justice would have been served however 98 years I can certainly live with for a pedophile piece of crap so can someone tell me what the difference is with this special victim cop and the psychiatrist? Becuz it was 2 kids the POS psychiatrist molested/ raped. Because I don’t see the differences in there crimes. It’s all the same and these men are men your suppose to trust to help you. That alone being an authority figure should triple your sentence x100. That’s not being exaggerated 3 years is an insult to that little girl, the public. I’m appalled at our system and how punishment is dealt with with these dudes who took an oath to protect and to serve and turned around and shit on it . Unbelievable how will this little girl ever trust anyone ever again… ?

LASD holds their employees to the highest ethical standards. They can’t say it if it wasn’t true right?

What office was this child predator working out of, at the time? Was he somewhere in Ventura, or, was he with LAPD? And, only a 3 year sentence for taking advantage of his position?
