Driver killed in collision in Santa Clarita area identified

SANTA CLARITA – Authorities have identified the motorist who was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision in the Santa Clarita area.

Bradley Smith, 28, of Lancaster died at the scene of the crash, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

The crash occurred about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, on San Francisquito Canyon Road, just south of Dry Gulch Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, Smith was southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road in a white 2006 Kia Rio when he “attempted to pass traffic and traveled into the northbound lane.”

“While attempting a passing maneuver, (Smith) observed oncoming traffic (and) made an evasive turning movement to the right and traveled back onto the southbound lane and into the dirt right shoulder,” according to the CHP.

He then lost control of the Kia and traveled back across the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, where the compact car collided head-on with a white 2010 Lexus ES350 driven by a Santa Clarita woman, the CHP reported. The Kia became engulfed in flames.

The Lexus driver was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia for treatment of injuries described as moderate, according to the CHP.

San Francisquito Canyon Road was closed intermittently for most of the morning while an investigation was conducted.

Young men between the age of 19 and 30 are lawless, and irresponsible. Worst driver cohort on the nation’s highways, ultimately responsible for 90% of vehicle accidents in North America, were it not for everyone else, paying artificially inflated premiums to cross-subsidize affordable premiums for these inherent destructive 20 something punks, they’d otherwise be uninsurable.

Yes indeed, a capitol idea, Christine is quite correct. Young men should be permanently banned from discretion driving and permanently relegated, to Ubers, Taxis, mass transit, or autonomous vehicles. Or, as Christine suggested, they should be chauffeured by family. All men should be prohibited from driver discretion privileges, under age 30. This would solve the problem.

How sad….was it worth the risk to pass everybody because you’ve been doing all along for awhile. No because you just got lucky, but that luck ran out. So glad the other driver was okay. And it didn’t turn into a massive car pile up because someone was being selfish with the road. May that young man R.I.P. He could of gotten married in the near future maybe? Or have children maybe? But because of a foolish aggressive mistake he killed himself. And all those what if’s will never happen. So sad………

… revoke and ban all male 20-something drivers, we’d eliminate fatal accidents 99.9%. All males between the age of 19 and 30 should have to be taxied, by their grandmothers, their mommies, their sisters, their girlfriends or wives –

I don’t mean disrespect and I understand humans make mistakes, but this is clearly a case of not knowing how to drive.

@Jeff…When poor souls are being gassed, gunned down, driven out of their homes, and so much more, under man’s rule; I would say things aren’t looking any better after thousands of years.

Yes they upset me…. because I know who they are… and they have no soul. Believe me they tried killing my son and I by loosening our gas lines. I tried doing police reports but their contractor intimmadated me with threats and Palmdale sheriff ignored my for their political affiliation with the mayor. I’m not a bad person I never deserved what they did… they still recite what I say in my own home which I wonder how they know… shrug my PI knows lol… court orders coming soon I’m filing attempted murder on them.
