Help create the theme for AV Fair 2018

by The AV Times Staff • September 27, 2017

LANCASTER – Antelope Valley Fairgrounds officials are challenging local residents to submit theme ideas for the Antelope Valley Fair & Alfalfa Festival 2018, scheduled for Aug. 17 to 26, 2018.

The winner of the Fair 2018 theme contest will ride in the 2018 A.V. Fair parade as a VIP, receive two tickets to all concerts and arena entertainment, and be invited to the annual kick-off (Volunteer Appreciation) dinner in July.

The “80th Anniversary” is the subject with which contestants must work.

Slogans must be five words or less to qualify and must be specifically related to the A.V. Fair’s “80th Anniversary”.  Slogan’s cannot contain “R” Us, due trademark infringement, and slogans need not rhyme.

Multiple theme ideas can be submitted per entry, listed on one sheet of paper, or in one email, Fax, or envelope. Entries must include complete contact information [name, address, phone and email].

All entries will be date-stamped as entered. In the case of duplicate entries with the same theme, the entry submitted first will be included in the competition.

How to enter

Theme entries must be submitted to the A.V. Fair by Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at 5 p.m. Entries can only be hand delivered, faxed, mailed or emailed, (no phone calls) to:

Antelope Valley Fairgrounds

Lancaster, CA  93536
ATTN: Trevor

FAX: 661.942.2135, ATTN: Trevor

The voters elected these politicians. Maybe the voters need to wise up (Question Lancaster Authority).

Lancaster voters are not known for their cerebral prowess. Neither are Lancaster politicians.

Hence, we have the Lancaster of today.

I agree that Lancaster is a complete mess. It angers me that Rex Parris keeps getting elected (4th term). Every time he is elected, I become physically ill. Yes, you are correct when you say “Hence, we have the Lancaster of today.” People can’t seem to connect the dots when it comes to the decline of this community, and the source of the decline, Rex, and those that turn a blind eye because they’re paid. As for the politicians in Palmdale, well, I will wait for an outcome that involves the truth, not gossip.

Problem is that you are underestimating the intelligence of the politicians and the power brokers that pull their strings in Lancaster. It isn’t that they aren’t smart. The problem is that they are inclined to line their own pockets as much as possible at public expense…and they are good at it. That was true before they pushed Wrecks into office, and will likely be true long after Wrecks retires or dies. Lancaster was incorporated on the ‘as a local government we can loot freely’ plan and has never operated any other way.

When only 14% of the voters show up to vote in Lancaster, then it is the complacency of the voters. If the people don’t care whether their politicians are corrupt by voting them out, then they get what they deserve. That goes for Palmdale too, or any other community. Don’t just sit and complain, do something that makes a better community.

            October 9, 2017 at 11:13 am

The problem is that these corrupt politicians count on low voter turnout, and the 14% that turned out gave them what they wanted.

A slogan for the Fair? The Fair slogan should be Booze, Booze, and More Booze! It’s become nothing but a place to get hammered. So many fights by drunks. Booze, booze, and more booze! What ever happened to the days when you could bring your kids to the Fair an not have them seen a bunch of drunks fighting and puking.
