Instead throwing out which schools is better and where there are more drugs. Why doesn’t everyone do something in making the schools better instead of waisting time complaining. Being a person that has gone to both Private and public. I have to say the drug problem is everywhere. The school is not the problem. Education is. It starts with the people. Not just the parents, but the neighbors, teachers, police and the what we all bring to a community as a whole. Finger pointing, complaining and hate doesn’t help our kids.
Heavy Drinker says
Don’t name your school after a homophobic bigot and expect the kids to learn respect for each other.
Lex Harris says
You could do worse. You could name a school after a pathological liar and megalomaniac who spends his life suing businesses, school districts, cities, counties, American Legion Hall posts, and anyone else who can have money squeezed out of them.
TM says
No guidance on the parents behalf, they are also probably under educated, lack common sense , lack parenting skills as well, disrespectful just as much as their own kids….and I agree with the comment above about the Ferguson effect… security and police officers were probably thinking that !!! I wouldn’t want to put hands on the kids either, it’s just gonna backfire on the officers!! Stupid , inconsiderate parents need to go back to school themselves , and please , it’s not all about being cool or gang affiliated this days, that’s all that is drilled into these kids minds, no thought about the future….
Shane Falco says
I am thankful all our kids went to private school, it was worth every penny.
This is what people think of when they think Palmdale.
It obviously must somehow be Rex’s fault.
Clete-us says
Ask the kids in the AV which high school has the best drugs. Hint: it’s not a public school, Foolco. Another hint: it’s not in Palmdale, Foolco. You’re clueless.
Been There, Done That says
Totally false. I am a teacher who chose to put my kids in private school. Private schools have many, many students whose parents are public school employees. That right there should tell you something. Were there drugs at the private school? Of course. Was it anywhere near what it’s like in public school? 100% no it was not.
Tim Scott says
Comparing the parent’s eye view of the private school to the teacher’s eye view of the public school doesn’t sound like it will provide much good information.
Shane Falco says
Of course, Tim, don’t take the word of a private school graduate, the parent of private school graduates and a public school teacher whose children are in private schooling.
No sir, let’s instead listen to you, the publicly educated handyman, and your pontification regarding the better/equal education received in a public school.
As our kids came through elementary/middle and high school we met many teachers whose kids were in school with our kids. Some were even administrators who vented about the issues at their own school with bad apples and the inability to get rid of them.
Tim Scott says
I vent about not being able to get rid of bad apples myself, so I can certainly relate.
You, for instance.

In a school of 3500 students, there was a brawl in front of the campus. Oh no!!! The other 3,450 students went home and found out about it on the evening news like everyone else. Those people who were involved chose to be involved. If we teach our children to be aware and not involve themselves in this foolishness, then we can trust they will make good decisions. When I was in high school the ASB President and a few other students at another school were arrested for throwing rocks at cars on the 14 fwy. I’m pretty sure that is the definition of awful and *gasp* they went to a very prominent local private school. There are people who make terrible decisions all around us, and we have to learn to avoid them. But we would be extremely naive to think that they don’t exist at private schools.
Shane Falco says
I worked in the AV then and responded to one of those calls..and yes, that kid twenty years ago at the private school threw some rocks from the overpass…off campus.. and they booted him out of that school…into a public school.
I can’t remember any other incidents from that school or any of the other Christian schools in the AV.
Generally when parents pay that type of money it’s a sacrifice to send their kids there so they invest in making sure their kids stay on point academically and out of trouble.
That was our experience growing up and for all of our kids who have gone through private school.
Tim Scott says
Even private school might not have been enough to keep them from turning out to be enough like you to make them unfit to be human.
Vulture says
This is what happens when schools stop suspending students because they supposedly infringe on a student’s civil rights. A lot of kids that would have been expelled in the past are now allowed to stay on campus, even after multiple fights or drug offenses, because schools are trying to reduce the number of suspensions and expulsions in order to appease the mandate from state. The problem is that these policies are not fair for the 98% of students and parents who are decent folk and now have to share a campus with such unruly students and their families.
And if you look at the video that emerged on the news, you clearly see most security guards taking it very easy in that video. There were also multiple police officers at the scene, but they didn’t jump in either, and quite frankly, I don’t blame them. This is the so-called “Ferguson effect” in action, as school security and sheriffs are afraid to do their job because of the bad optics that come with laying hands on people of color, however justified it may be. The sad part is that the biggest losers in this scenario are the silent majority of good people of color who see their schools and neighborhoods deteriorate because we keep lowering the bar to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Adult’s perhaps… Parents not even close. Animal’s thinking they are protecting their young… ABSOLUTELY.
Welcome to the sub-human land of the Antelope Valley. Both Mayor’s should be proud.
Janet says
I hope those adults are found and prosecuted…. Adults acting like kids, acting like bully’s… it’s no wonder kids are the way they are
ANNON says
I wonder if this has anything to do with so many children coming from single family homes etc etc etc… (NO guidance)
Bob says
Absolutely..
and Father’s day is coming
Tim Scott says
An after school fistfight merits an investigation by the sheriff’s and an article in the news. Things have really changed since I was in high school.
Shane Falco says
When I was in school students didn’t have all out brawls while filming it yelling “world star!!!”. When I was in school there wasn’t the probability that people would come back with guns and shoot up the place or make more threats online.
PKHS has students from some of the worst crime and gang areas of palmdale so it’s not surprising somebody called the sheriffs department. I’m sure many of those students, families are already known to law enforcement.
Janet says
When adults are beating up kids it should be handled by the sheriffs… when they suffer adult consequences maybe they will stop acting like children
