Driver killed in rollover crash

LAKE LOS ANGELES – A 31-year-old driver died Saturday after his pickup truck drifted off the roadway and overturned, authorities said.

Tibursio Leyva of Lake Los Angeles was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter..

The single-vehicle crash happened around 3:04 p.m. Saturday, April 1, on Avenue O, just west of 162nd Street East, according to a California HIghway Patrol report.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected when the truck overturned an undetermined amount of times, officials said. [LUIS MEZA]
Leyva was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 westbound on Avenue O when his vehicle left the roadway “for reasons still under investigation” and went onto the northern dirt shoulder, the CHP report states.

The truck overturned an undetermined amount of times and Leyva was ejected. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP report.

Emergency medical assistance was provided before Leyva was pronounced dead by responding paramedics.

Alcohol or drugs were not suspected to be contributing factors in the crash, the CHP reported.

Anyone with information about this collision is encouraged to contact the CHP’s Antelope Valley area office at 661-948-8541.

  6. I believe some people don’t know that their vehicle can FLIP OVER when they drive onto the dirt. I’ ve heard it happen many many times, even when someone was just going 25Mph.

    TIME TO PUT UP WARNING SIGNS OF THIS DANGER.. I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY HAVEN’T DONE IT YET.. ALSO, THE ROADS NEED TO BE PAVED ON THE EDGES OF THE ROAD WHERE THE DIRT IS.

    • If you pave at the edge of the road where the dirt is then there will never be an “edge” of the road. So where exactly is this never ending, wider than wide road money coming from?

    • It is rare to flip without excess speed involved. Yes, some vehicles are more prone to tipping when too many Gs are pulled going sideways. If truck drivers and folks with old cars from the 70s can stay on the road I am less likely to think it is the width of the road being a problem and more likely a lack of attention while behind the wheel.
      When driving we each have one job, driving while paying attention to the road.

    • Look, driving is dangerous, probably the most dangerous thing you can do in your daily life. If you have no respect for the forces involved, and the attention it takes to actually drive, it can get bad real quick. Modern safety equipment only allow for less devastating consequences when the event occurs. Seat belts only help if they are worn. Air bags only can do so much.

      Putting signs along the road that says “PLEASE STAY ON THE ROAD OR YOU MAY FLIP OVER” makes absolutely no sense. As far as paving the edges of the road, where does that end? 5 feet, 10 feet….50 feet? When people do not pay attention to their driving through inattention, drinking, lack of sleep whatever, they run the risk of a collision with someone else or a collision with the Earth.

      I feel bad for the family as they are going through some hard times, some probably trying to understand why it had to happen.

  8. Face facts, sad truth of it, you could slice and dice the folks out there in Lake L.A. into 4 buckets: ingrates, pervs, nitwits and retards. Not-a-one of them with a lick of common sense, much less a triple digit intelligence quotient, and none of them can drive worth beans! All those roads going to and from Lake L.A., straight as an arrow, everything rectilinear, all roadways intersecting at 90 degree angles, not a lake anywhere in sight to inadvertently drive their cars into, driving doesn’t get any easier than that. To wind up shiny side down going to or from Lake L.A., you’d have to be an idiot –

    • You are an idiot what are you talking about Lake La roads are some of the worst there’s potholes there’s no street lights the reflective on the road you cannot see it at night there’s dust storms certain parts of the road you cannot pull off because it’s a ditch you should really sit down and be quiet when grown folks are talking
