PALMDALE – A man allegedly high on drugs while driving a stolen vehicle led officers on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into two cars in a Palmdale intersection Monday night, authorities said.
Ricky H. Parsons Jr., 32, of Palmdale was taken into custody for multiple charges, including felony reckless fleeing from a peace officer, driving a stolen vehicle and driving while under the influence of a drug, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The incident started around 9:36 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, when a CHP officer attempted to stop a 1997 Honda on Rancho Vista Boulevard at 15th Street East, the CHP report states.
“The driver failed to stop for the forward red lights and a pursuit was initiated. Parsons led the California Highway Patrol on a 12-mile pursuit traversing multiple streets within the city of Palmdale,” the CHP report states.
“Parsons failed to stop for a red traffic signal at 47th Street East and Avenue R while fleeing from the California Highway Patrol and collided with two vehicles,” the CHP report states.
The crash happened around 9:47 p.m. and included a 2013 Toyota and a 2015 Honda, according to the CHP report.
The Toyota’s driver, 43-year-old Rolando Martinez of Palmdale, and passenger, 58-year-old Blanca Martinez of Palmdale, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Palmdale Regional Medical Center for treatment. Another passenger in the Toyota — 25-year-old Marisol Herrera — was treated at the scene and released, according to the CHP report.
The 2015 Honda’s driver, 33-year-old Marin Rodriguez of Palmdale, and passenger, 60-year-old Efren Guzman of Sun Valley, were treated at the scene and released.
Suspect Parsons sustained major injuries in the crash, including a compound fracture to his left leg and bleeding to the brain, according to the CHP report.
He was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the CHP report states.
