PALMDALE – Three people were shot Monday afternoon after a fight escalated into a shooting at a Palmdale shopping plaza, authorities said.

The incident was reported just after 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, on the 37000 block of 25th Street East (near Avenue S).

Four people between the ages of 16 and 26 were involved in a physical altercation, and “at one point, one of them pulls out a gun and begins shooting,” said Lt. Ken Wright of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

Two males and a female sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to Wright. The alleged gunman, a 26-year-old male, was injured in the fight that preceded the shooting, Wright said.

He fled the scene and was captured less than a half hour later after authorities contained the area.

A second suspect, a 15-year-old male, was also captured within the contained area, Wright said.

“We detained a juvenile who was not the shooter but was somehow connected to the shooter… He has been arrested for outstanding warrants,” Wright said.

Wright said 25th Street East, between Avenue S and Avenue S-12, was shut down until about 6:30 p.m. to allow for the investigation.

The suspects’ names were not immediately released Monday night.

UPDATE: The two suspects were “positively identified through field show ups,” and a firearm was recovered at the scene, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Palmdale station expresses their sincere gratitude to the citizens who aided in the capture of the suspects.  Without the public’s assistance, this incident could have escalated further and/ or the suspects could have fled the area,” the news release states. Read it here.

What gets me or they complain when a cop shoots one. And protests. But you never know when it is going to have a gun just like this so you deserve to get shot and killed

The problem with your ignorant statement is that in these cases the suspect will be convicted and do a long bid in prison(in which he should)With the police when they kill they don’t spend a day in jail.

          October 20, 2016 at 6:49 am

LOL.. Dumby.. You are ignorant. The police are out trying to protect the civilians who CALL because they are afraid and criminals get shot for making stupid decisions, or die in custody or while being taken into custody for breaking laws. These idiots (and many many others) are not responding to scared civilian calls, they arenot working they are preying on you and themselves while everyone is focused on a few instances where law enforcement has to do their job, or has a bad day. If you want to comment on blacks getting killed start in the community… Far more are killed as a result of black on black crime.

Why wasn’t Joshua Hills Elementary School not placed on lockdown. This school is only 2 blocks from the shooting!

There were released during this whole ordeal.

Who is responsible for notifying the area schools?

I totally agree with you! I called the school and they said they were not instructed by the police to put the kids on lockdown…but they locked down Palmdale HS much further away!

That’s really strange because Palmdale high was on lockdown and they are blocks away. J

Also the H.S. kids have transport.

Thank god that normal citizens are not allowed to carry a firearm.

my guess is that since the assailants were high school/adult age, it made since that they would try to blend in to a highschool atmosphere to hide in the crowd. desert willow middle school was not locked down at the time (may have been locked down later, not sure). my kid was allowed to leave there at the end of school and walk home until he reached sherrif’s barricade where he stayed until i picked him up.

I, for one, am shocked that there was a shooting and criminal activity in the nirvana of east Palmdale. Surely this is somehow the fault of the misguided sheriff’s department.

I’m not surprised that you are shocked, since you’ve long since demonstrated that you are smart as a box of hammers.

Thank you Palmdale Sherriff Station, and thank you to the witnesses. It is nice to know that even though things have changed up here (for the most part, not in a good way) there are still people in the community who will stand up and do the right thing.

The parents???Probably, high on drugs or stealing from the local markets! It’s sad, it’s frustrating to see another black youth going to waste. It doesnt matter if your poor, white, black, hispanic everything starts from home! These kids deserve better parents who will educate their children and lead them to the right path. I have a neighbor who sits all day smoking marijuana, huffing away while his little infant is sitting in the car seat. He even sang a song to her ” you love smoking weed, dont you’ yess you do, you love weed!. I was so upset that my husband stop me from calling the police. But I’m calling social services! NO kid deserves a life like that!

Good for you. Your neighbor must be living off the system. I hope not section 8. You can file a report with them, but don’t expect any response from them. We tried filing two different reports on a neighbor. No response to any of our reports. Not a call, letter or any type of response. They probley throw the complaint in the trash as soon as we left the office. I wish you the best of luck with social services.
