AV Hospital seeking volunteers

by The AV Times Staff • September 6, 2016

AV HospitalLANCASTER – Antelope Valley Hospital  is looking for volunteers who want to help others and gain experience in a healthcare setting.

“Volunteers at Antelope Valley Hospital represent a diverse variety of backgrounds, ages, interests and experience levels,” stated Mary Binkowski, director of volunteer resources. “We rely on the talent of our volunteers to support our staff by greeting, visiting with and escorting patients and their families, distributing comfort items, filing, organizing, and other clerical duties, and much more.”

Anyone over the age of 15 can assist patients, visitors and staff in many different departments, hospital officials said.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

  • Reception Desk
  • Gift Shops
  • “New to You” Thrift Shop
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Pediatrics
  • Nursing Units
  • Office/Clerical
  • Dietary
  • Outpatient Treatment Center
  • Surgery Waiting Room
  • Emergency Department
  • Pet Therapy
  • Transportation

The hospital’s Volunteer Auxiliary raises funds through the hospital’s gift shop, thrift shop, bake sales and other events. Proceeds have benefited the Women and Infants Pavilion, emergency department and critical care unit.

The hospital also offers opportunities for high school and college students through its teen volunteer program, which can fulfill school service‑hour requirements.

Onsite volunteers attend an orientation and receive job-specific training. To find out more about volunteering at AVH, call the volunteer services department at 661‑949‑5105 or download an application from the hospital’s website.

I believe anyone over the age of 15 can volunteer. I usually see teenagers and seniors who are retired that volunteer. All you have to do to get started is fill out an application at the hospital.
