LANCASTER – Lancaster Sheriff’s Station detectives are investigating a major traffic collision that left a passenger in critical condition.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, on Avenue K at 20th Street East in Lancaster, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the driver of a Blue 2006 Chevy Tahoe was traveling westbound on Avenue K, and the driver of a silver 2004 Ford Freestar was in the intersection preparing to make a northbound turn from eastbound Avenue K,” the news release states. “The driver of the Freestar started his turn and was struck by the oncoming Tahoe.”
The front-seat passenger in the Freestar sustained major trauma, and he is in critical but stable condition, detectives said. The Freestar’s driver sustained minor injuries, according to the news release.
“The driver of the Tahoe and his one adult and three child passengers all received minor injuries, the type of which are unknown at this time,” the news release states.

People I totally agree with all of you, but it’s “Demolition Derby” out there. Better get out of the way or your in for a big surprise. Be safe everyone. There are people out there who just don’t care.
Johnny says
I’ve seen a gray van acting sketchy about a week ago waiting on a left turn….. It stayed in the middle of the intersection for a while even when I had the green light. (the van was on my left) if I was armed ghat night I would of investigated because it was dangerous and looked like he was waiting on someone to hit it. Since I wasn’t I just sped away from the vehicle as fast as I could before blocking my path.

It seems that there are a lot of accident’s on Ave K.
Tim Scott says
As was already pointed out, East Ave K is making that transition into city street. A lot of people have a deeply rooted sense that when you cross the railroad tracks you are “out in the desert” and speeds drift up, but that is not really true any more. It just takes a while (and some nasty crashes) for reality to seep in.
Eastsider says
Do you think for a second Rex and his West Side hand pick council gives a damn about East Lancaster? We need districts NOW. Are you listening LULAC? NAACP? Darren Parker? Stan Muhammed?
Laughing says
Sure would be nice if the auto makers sprang into action and installed mirror mounted dash cameras stock. All $30 of the cost could be added to the price at a markup of course, like say $100. It would get rid of a lot of these requests for information, just download both cars.
Tim Scott says
Problems…who owns the information? Assume someone IS specifically responsible. Does the state have the authority to “just download their car,” or is that self incrimination? If someone shuts off the recorder in their own car would that be a crime? What if they delete data from their own car? If we rule that “in the interest of of the public good all your data are belong to us” will car buyers really be willing to pay the hundred dollars? Will they buy the car at all?
Bigger problems. You drove by a crime scene. Perhaps your car recorded something useful, fork over your car so we can download it. Hey, this data shows that you were speeding, here’s you ticket.
By the way, didn’t I see your dashcam video on-line? The hilarious one where the guy falls down on his way out of the strip club? What? Your car got hacked, and your wife wants to know what you were doing at the strip club in the first place?
Dashcam video solves problems, but it isn’t without consequences. It isn’t just “greedy car makers” that are in the way here.

Simple, lower the speed limit. This is not a Suburban area anymore
Tim Scott says
You’re right about the area, but lowering speed limits hasn’t proven to reduce speeds. People drive at what they perceive to be safe speeds, and until public perception catches up to the changes in the conditions lowering the speed limit is just setting a revenue trap.
The unfortunate truth is that this kind of accident, and giving it as much publicity as possible, is a part of the actual solution. The road becomes known as dangerous and people slow down as a precaution. Appropriate infrastructure to the current reality would help raise awareness as well, but Lancaster.
AV says
Ok…. so get a smaller car so your kids can be cramped and maybe killed! OK!!!!
drivers need to pay attention says
I’m tired of drivers not driving defensively! So many people are quick to blame an intersection or the traffic signal, when it’s the drivers bad decisions causing such wreckage. For some reason, people like to take chances, speed, run red lights and don’t leave ample space between cars. I’m damn tired of most of the drivers in this valley!
J says
Install a camera on that intersection
Nikolas says
This intersection and 15th East & Ave K are notorious for accidents. I live nearby.
This has EVERYTHING to do with the drivers, not the intersection. People are running yellows and reds all of the time. I always wait a couple of seconds before proceeding through intersections when given the green.
Michael Vercher says
Offer a reward and details will be presented.
Drew says
How bout drivers paying attention to what their doing it’s not the city’s fault we have so many reckless drivers
Tim Scott says
People have lapses. Most cities do try to take measures that make those lapses less frequent and/or less significant.
Lancaster spends your money on things like LEAPS instead though, so don’t expect any infrastructure improvements. Especially on the east side. None of Rex’s cronies have driven through that intersection in years, so consider yourselves lucky it has a light at all.
Mikey says
Yep, its lancasters fault that person turned into the path of an oncoming car.palmdale never has any accidents, because of infrastructure spending, what an [removed]
Merriltn says
This is not the first time this scenario has happened at this is intersection. I wish the city of lancaster would put a dedicated left turn light and none of this left on green business. Tired of this type of collision happening here.
Mr fed up says
Theres a left turn signal to turn onto 20th east, but not onto Avenue k! Dont blame the city for incompetent drivers speeding and not paying attention
, or having the common sense for driver safety. Theres a accident everyday in the A.V. speeding and not paying attention is always the main factors, so dont blame either city blame the driver that caused the accident
