DUI checkpoint in Palmdale this Friday

by The AV Times Staff • April 28, 2016

PALMDALE – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Services Detail will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Palmdale this Friday, April 29, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Deputies will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They also will check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.

Funding for these operations is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

10th Street West/RVB has a very high collision rate, usually in the top 5 each month. Most however are not related to DUI. They are related to rear ends and sideswipes when drivers can’t safely make it around a left turn without hitting the car next to them………

They should set up a checkpoint in the parking lot of Schooners and make sure they test all them off duty LASD that sit in their pounding down the drinks before they drive home. Seen it many times. Laws for some, freebies and high fives for others is total BS.

I’ve seen it myself as well. they think they’re invincible. pathetic. it’s just as unsafe for them to do it as anyone else!!

Freebies like section 8, welfare, free school lunch and breakfast, medi-cal and WIC kind of freebies??

I don’t think any cops that use that stuff. In fact, Schooner’s is full of those freebie types and cops don’t usually hang around them and then broadcast that they are off duty cops.

Somebody watches too many movies and Tim Scott replies.

And you apparently can’t read. The freebies he’s referring to are the free pass stops that a drunk cop gets where anyone else would get a DUI. We all know cops are high earners and thus you think they are superior people, but at least try to read before you babble.

Cops have nice pensions. So do fire fighters. Very nice pensions. Better than the rest of us. Who do you think pays for that?

Why a checkpoint at 10th and Rancho? Could you even date the last time an accident happened in this intersection? Are you just paranoid? Do you simply like driving through checkpoints? Do you know that the majority of car collisions involve sober drivers, right?

With all the booze events in Lancaster they should just set up there. Everything is booze, booze, booze. Too bad Xavier can’t figure that out.
