Color Vibe 5K coming to Palmdale this Saturday

by The AV Times Staff • January 21, 2016

Color Vibe 2016 preview

PALMDALE –The Palmdale Color Vibe 5K, full of vibrant color, epic beats, and a lot of fun, returns this Saturday, Jan. 23.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Palmdale Amphitheater, located at 2723 Rancho Vista Boulevard.

Registration is available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/TheAmp.

The fee for individual runners in advance is $29.99, or $26.99 per runner in a team of four or more. The registration fee includes entry into the 5K Color Vibe Run, a race bib and Color Vibe color pack. Children ages 1 to 12 get free registration with a paid adult, plus a processing fee. Up to two children may be registered for each paid adult.  Event t-shirts will be available for purchase. Day of registration is $35 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.

The Color Vibe Run will conclude with a large colorful dance party hosted by a professional sound crew and DJ.

“Last year’s Palmdale Color Vibe was a huge success and it’s going to be even bigger this year,” stated Palmdale Communications Manager John Mlynar. “It’s a unique 5K where participants run, walk, or dance their way through stations, where they get blasted with blue, yellow, pink and purple colors.”

The Color Vibe uses a cornstarch-based colored powder to tie-dye participants. The colored powder is made in the USA and made from food grade quality cornstarch using a manufacturing process that’s been custom developed for the Color Vibe Race Series. The powder is non-toxic and biodegradable. It also washes out easily from skin and hair. As with any substance, it should be kept out of the eyes and lungs. Many participants wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to West Coast Classical, which regularly performs at the Palmdale Amphitheater.

I’ve done the color run three times in a row and this year it was so fun. I did it with my brother and my friend. We had a blast. Can wait until next year.

Then stay home Cynic. Run through your neighborhood in under 25 minutes. No one will miss you. I went last year and it was a blast.

A decent runner can run a 5K under 25 minutes. So it’s $35 to go for a jogg and have paint thrown at you.

But I’m sure the selfies you can take to show Facebook are so worth it!
