LANCASTER – A 35-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years in county jail after pleading no contest to animal cruelty for starving a horse to death in Leona Valley, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Aron Emily Jacques of Santa Clarita entered her plea Tuesday to one count of animal cruelty and was immediately sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Kathleen Blanchard.

Jacques was originally charged with starving or neglecting to care for nine horses. As part of her plea, Jacques agreed to pay restitution to the owners of all the horses and to the county’s Department of Animal Care and Control for investigative costs. A restitution hearing is set for Dec. 9 at the Antelope Valley courthouse in Lancaster.

Jacques also must not own or care for any animal for 10 years.

Deputy District Attorney Daniel Rochmes, who prosecuted the case, said several horses were found starving by county animal officials on Jacques’ property in February 2014.

One of the horses died on the property and three had to be euthanized as a result of her negligent care, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

If I didn’t already have court the day of hers I really wanted to be there, so I could tell the judge that she got my family member hooked on drugs…of course it’s my family members fault as well for making a bad choice, but she was 17 at the time, taking her to drug stops. I still want to ring her neck. As soon as she gets onto the receive yard at her new place ive got a couple girls that are waiting to say hi.

Yeah she was a major drug addict.she was hooked on Xanax and meth.she would go weeks without showering so she would be smelly all the time.

She would go through 90 day supply of Xanax in a few days. She would constantly be on meth as well if she didn’t bathe then she’s most likely not going to care for 9 horses. How dos the owners of the horses trust her with horses I don’t understand? I wouldn’t trust her with a cabbage patch kid.

If only horses can get EBT, they’ll surely be overweight.

And then you said that. However off the topic it is, horses cannot get EBT because they lack the ability to fill out the proper forms.

There was an instance many years back where an Arabian mare was trained to write her name in English with her tail (cursive at that), but alas she was denied assistance for not having the proper identification.

After riding the long and arduous trail to Poncho Barne’s ranch and getting her documents in order, she returned to Los Angeles and was given four sugar cubes and a bushel of apples. After pouching the sugar cubes in her bottom lip she promptly kicked over the bushel and stated, “How ya like them apples?” She bucked and snorted her way out the door, never to be seen again.

Let’s starve her to death. That would be fair punishment, a year or two in prison doesn’t compare to what she did.

I used to have horses and I fell into some hard financial times I sold them or gave them away to give them a better life. It broke my heart at the time however they were allowed to live and be fed. That is what a normal person does. You do not let an animal nor human suffer and at times in my life I had bouts with poverty and starved for a few days… It is a painful physically painful thing to do to any living thing. 2 years is a soft sentence. She wont starve in prison nor will she do 2 years. Sadly.

That would be economical and just punishment, Lusa. A wild horse can at least feed itself on vegetation. These horses were kept and starved in captivity. I agree, Susana. She should never be allowed to keep an animal again.

2 Years, ??? that is all she got for almost letting 9 horses die…are you kidding me…a total of 4 horses dead..and only 2 years in jail……A total of 4 horses, to their death and only 2 years….?? and she can not care nor have animals for 10 years…it should be …for the rest of her life….no animals……

What a shame. She boarded other people’s horses, took their money, and starved their animals. I wonder if drug use had a part to play in this scenario.

She needs to go without food so we dont have to support her.

@Phillip I would throw a few bucks down on that bet. People like this should never be given the opportunity to care for animals again….wth is this 10 year crap? And, where were the owners of the 9 starving horses…hopefully none of them have kids!

      • Philip says

        October 28, 2015 at 7:58 pm

@Quigley I was thinking the same thing. And then I thought, “Why would you own a horse just to board it with someone else? Perhaps the owners were traveling abroad and trusted this person too much.

It’s a shame. No animal should be kept and starved, especially when they have the instinct to find food all by themselves.

@phillip I think you’re 100% correct about the drug use. People board horses for lots of reasons – building their own barn, more trails, better facility… However in this case.
