SACRAMENTO – Senator Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley) announced Monday that she has appointed John Calandri to serve as the Senate designee on the Antelope Valley Fair Joint Powers Authority (JPA).

“As a multi-generation agricultural family, John and his family truly represent what the Antelope Valley Fair is all about,” Runner stated in news release. “John has served our community well and will be a wonderful addition to the Antelope Valley Fair JPA.”

A lifelong resident of the Antelope Valley, Calandri owns Sonrise Farms where he has been growing onions for over 30 years.

“I look at my appointment to the JPA as a wonderful way to continue giving back to the community and I am looking forward to my new responsibilities,” said Calandri.

The Antelope Valley Fair JPA was established in 2011 with the help of then-Assemblyman Steve Knight and then-Senator George Runner, bringing oversight of the fair to the community.

Elected in March 2015, Sharon Runner represents portions of Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties as Senator for the 21st District. Her district includes the Antelope Valley, Victor Valley and portions of the Santa Clarita Valley.
