LITTLEROCK – A 17-year-old driver died Sunday evening after his car veered off the road and slammed into a utility pole, authorities said.

The teen, identified by the coroner’s office as Diego Marin of Lake Los Angeles, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that happened around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, April 26, on Palmdale Boulevard, west of 110th Street East, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The 17-year-old was driving a 2000 Honda westbound on Palmdale Boulevard at an undetermined speed when he drifted to the right for unknown reasons, the CHP report states.

He turned the car to the left, causing the Honda to veer from the westbound lane across the eastbound lane and onto the south dirt shoulder of Palmdale Boulevard, according to the CHP report.

“[The Honda] traversed the south dirt shoulder and collided in a broadside manner with a wooden utility pole,” the CHP report states.

Marin suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was definitely speeding, a person that was no more then 100 yards away told me about this one because he was at the scene when it all occurred. I was told that this driver was going over 90 miles an hour (in a 55 mph zone) when he passed him and lost control of his vehicle, created a cloud of dust and slammed into that electric pole. Very tragic lost, luckily no one else was killed especially the family that was inbound that thought they were going to get hit.

To the little man I knew in high school. A very smart and respectful man since the day I met him. Prayers go to the Marin family, friends, and loved ones. May you rest in peace and watch over your family as they walk forward step by step in life. God bless you Diego.. one day even I will see you again.

I was one of Diego’s bosses at Wingstop. You honestly couldn’t ask for a nicer young man. Always on time, hard working, great to talk with, and VERY KIND to others. I will never forget him. Prayers to his family, and all who knew him, and will miss him.Donations will be accepted at the West palmdale wingstop, on 10th street west, and O-8, near Wal-mart.

Wow that almost looks like two different vehicles… Speed in excess of 90-95 i bet… Teach your children to drive safely, getting there five minutes later is a win… Terrible story here…

      April 28, 2015 at 6:17 am

We can teach our children all we want but the truth is once they are out of our sight they do as they please. I really don’t think now is the time for you to lecture someone on teaching their children.

My boyfriend and I were about a half mile behind him when the crash occurred. We pulled over and ran to him as fast as our legs would move. My heart is completely broken. Gave a police report to provide his family with details. To his mother: I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn’t even know him and I have been crying and praying for God to send you strength and my support. I placed flowers at the telephone pole this morning and spend an hour praying to him. He will never be forgotten, and always in my heart. ❤️
