by The AV Times Staff • March 17, 2015

PALMDALE – A sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in Palmdale Friday night (March 13) netted two DUI arrests, authorities announced Tuesday.

The checkpoint was conducted on Rancho Vista Boulevard, between 20th Street West and 21st Street West, from 6 p.m. March 13 to 2 a.m. March 14., according to Deputy Brent Bunch of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

The results from the checkpoint are as follows:

* 1,698 vehicles through the checkpoint.

* 1,504 drivers were checked at the checkpoint.

* 1 DUI – drug (marijuana) suspect was arrested.

* 1 DUI – alcohol suspect was arrested.

* 2 unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.

* 1 vehicle was stored for one day.

* 2 vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/driver’s license checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year as part of an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon streets and highways.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Next it’ll be under the influence of caffeine, or under the influence of too little sleep. Scammers.

Lack of sleep is often the cause of accidents. People fall asleep at the wheel, rear end other drivers, or kill themselves and passengers, way to often.

Impaired driving is a problem everywhere.
DUI stands for driving under the influence. Doesn’t specify alcohol. People who don’t smoke weed everyday are more affected by thc levels than those who smoke it all the time.
I don’t care which adults are smoking weed, but they need to stay in their own lanes and off the back of my car.

A marijuana DUI? What a fu….g joke. This is nothing but a trumped up scam to get people in the system, get them on probation, and suck their bank account dry. What kind of lowlife cop makes this kind of arrest? Why is the Antelope Valley so intent on waging war against it’s own citizens?

The use of marijuana can slow the reflexes, which can lead to an accident, just like drunk driving can do.
If the arrested individual was lit up or had just been then the scent would have been very strong in the car. Should have kept his windows up.
The kind of officer that would make this arrest is one that is doing the job correctly as handed to him by someone up the chain of command.

What kind of person likes to willfully endanger others because they think their personal rights are more important than the rights of hundreds/thousands of others they are sharing the road with?

No, that’s propoganda. This article contains The Drug and Alcohol Crash Risk Report from the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/11/stoned-driving-crash-risk_n_6654810.html

“The likelihood of getting into an accident while using some other substances — including marijuana, antidepressants, painkillers, sedatives and stimulants — is statistically not significantly higher than driving while sober, after adjusting for various demographic factors.”

        Pot doesn’t endanger anyone.

Innocent until proven guilty, unless involved in a collision or other violation that led to a clear criminal action.
