UPDATED: Couple charged with torture, mayhem for beating toddler

PALMDALE – A Palmdale woman and her boyfriend have been charged with the beating of her 22-month-old toddler, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The boy is currently on life support in critical condition, according to Deputy District Attorney Theodore Swanson.

Rosie Lee Wilson, 20, and Brandon Jerel Williams, 24, both face one count each of assault on a child becoming comatose, torture and mayhem.

Additionally, Williams faces one count of attempted murder and Wilson is charged with one count of child abuse.

The toddler suffered great bodily injury at the hands of Williams between June and August of this year, according to the prosecutor. Sheriff’s detectives have released no details on the case; however, a source connected to the family communicated with The AV Times on the condition of anonymity.

The couple told friends that the baby slipped and fell, the source said.

“After sleeping for more than a day, his mother saw that his limbs were turning blue and he was taken to the hospital, having seizures along the way. It was discovered he had older bruises, and after being confronted, the boyfriend admitted to punching the baby…” the source said.

Williams was arrested around 8:22 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 and Wilson was arrested about five hours later, according to LASD inmate records. The toddler’s three-year-old sister was taken into protective custody and abuse is also suspected, the source claimed.

The source’s information could not be confirmed with Sheriff’s detectives.

When contacted Wednesday morning, the boy’s biological father, Harley Morris, said all he wanted was for his son to be okay. But he said the toddler’s chances for survival are slim and he is praying for a miracle.

“It is a travesty how someone could do something like that to a 22-month-old child,” Morris stated. “I just hope and pray that my son makes a speedy recovery and has a chance at life,  but if not, I know that he will be welcomed into God’s kingdom.”

Williams and Wilson were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, but the arraignment was delayed until Sept. 9 at Antelope Valley courthouse.

Bail for Williams and Wilson was set at more than $2 million. They both face multiple life sentences if convicted of all charges.

UPDATED 9/9/14: Rosie Lee Wilson and Brandon Jerel Williams were scheduled to be arraigned today, but the arraignment was postponed until Oct. 14, 2014. We will continue to follow this story.

  1. I can tell you first hand as a unknown source, this poor child WILL eventually pass away. I hope the mother and boyfriend are haunted everyday day in prison for what they did.

  2. Unfortunately the true father is not in a position to be by his baby’s side right now, but I know that he must be climbing the walls right now wishing he could. H.M if you are reading this talk to your p.o and see if there is any way that they can make an exception, so you can come to your son, before they decide to make a rash decision. At least you will be able to see him before they do. Or if he does make it through this you will be there to take him home with you. if you don’t try then it will eat at you for the rest of your life. You are an awesome person and I know from meeting you, that you would be an awesome father to your boy. Please try and get out here asap…… good luck!

I don’t know the male but I knew Rosie and back when I knew her she would never strike me as the type of person to do this, everyone may change so I will continue to keep an open mind but still there is a innocent baby fighting for his precious life and a baby girl without her family AND a unborn baby that may or may not be effected by the all edge drug use of Rosie and that is my concern, I pray that the children make it but if the innocent baby boy doesn’t pull through then the justice system has to PREVAIL. My heart goes out to the grandmother’s and the innocent babies involved. Rosie, I pray that you will get help until I hear the full story, I guess I will just pray. I am so upset about this whole thing. NEVER in my wildest dreams would I have thought something like this would have happened back when Rosie was hanging out at my home. NEVER.

Look I see it like this every one that has a positive comment for the family that has to deal with this horrible situation pleas pray for the baby and the family, it’s not fare to condemn,or be condemned against it’s bad enough that it is hard to get by these days we all as people need to look in the mirror and make sure that we have no faults of are own. I was once told as a child that the love of many will be cold now people are in title to there apinions but if your not going through this right now how can you possibly know how it feels this family have to lose 2 not one but 2 people they love and thats a hard thing to swallow for anyone who has dealt or dealing with this type of situation. So I say pleas consider the baby and his family and try to hope for the best because this could happen to anyone of us, young old child adult black white brown or yellow no one deserve to be abused killed or any other horrible things that I may not have mentioned we are all GOD’S children and we definitely deserve a chance at life but it’s up to us to make the right choices unfortunately these two did not like so many others but there are still billion of us that can try we all have flaws and strength we all make mistakes but we all are special in so many ways so let’s try to make a difference with in our self one day at a time god blesse

    • Omg are u crazy, that child is the one that I care about and I am praying for him many times Day. I’m glad his sister is safe and away from those wonderful parents. As for the rest of the family if they are good people they Will be able to gat custody of the little girl Will be able to maybe have a blessed and happy life, unlike her little brother. Last but not least as for we could all be in this situation, most of us would not be in this situation because we don’t abuse our children we love them. By the way didn’t any family members or friends notice these kids were being abused. Just a thought.

    • You are so right I try to keep it on a level thought but then again SOMETHING THEIR happen to this innocent baby, What? I know Rosie from a few years back and I could never see her doing something this horrific but then again do we ever know a person? The guy I never knew, so I don’t know all I can say is if drugs were involved, any thing is possible and in there is a baby injured and possibly murdered I have heard that he didn’t make it, and someone had to be behind this horrible crime the baby did not do it to himself so we have to be real about the whole thing I live Rosie and NEVER would have thought something like this would come so close to my heart but the innocent baby has got to have justice so whatever that justice is for him then I will except. GOD BLESS THE WHO LE FAMILY.

      Oh and don’t worry “dontMatter” baby’s are adopted in a heartbeat by warm loving people who have moral values and take their aggression out on punching bags, not babies.

Come on people…be the village – you can tell when something is wrong. Stop closing your eyes to this foolishness. Another baby had to suffer because nobody wanted to get involved then, but want to SMDH now…. [removed], just sad! I personally knew Brandon (haven’t seen him since right before his birthday last year), must admit I agree – not his character at all, but unfortunately an admission of guilt is hard to “un-admit.” My prayers are for the entire AV community, this is a hard thing to swallow, especially after Gabriel and the other little girl.. I would rather report and be wrong than NOT and another baby has to die because I looked the other way.

          • I hope others will learn from you. Report. Always report suspected child abuse. If you are wrong, then you are wrong. But do NOT let a child suffer physically or mentally. If you do not help the child, then who will?

  9. I would just like to point out that if anyone has bothered looking up the arrest report, Williams was arrested on the charge of cruelty to a child and Wilson was arrested on attempted murder. I’m just saying that if this article got the initial arrest reports wrong, what else did they get wrong? It’s still a tragic story, but it is important to know what really happened.     • Just because you are arrested for something, it doesn’t mean you will be charged for it. Could be that she was arrested for attempted murder but by the time the DA got the case, they decided there wasn’t enough evidence to charge her for that. It happens all the time. If that baby dies they both will be charged with murder. You can bet on that.

      • I do not think by the time this half-ass article was written, DA had a chance to delve into this case. But to take this a step further – mayhem and torture require that a limb was lost (summation) – no intent for murder needed. The article mentions that when she noticed his limb was blue she took him in – normally that means blood circulation was gone for a length of time…so my original question is really directed to the lack of “media-coverage” and update when you disclose that charges consist of mayhem and torture – these are very serious charges. So I would think that they would of had an update now on the child. They only thing that is required to have happen by now is them seeing the judge within so many hours of arrest. I am sure by the first arraignment, I think it is the 9th according to LAPD Inmate Search – all charges would have been formalized by DA. Check out the CA Penal code on these charges – if the child lost any limbs due to these allegations – torture is life sentence and mayhem is up to 8 yrs (?)

  10. Maybe this child-beating couple need some of their own medicine. How about no charges get pressed against them if they agree to be beat up like the child? Wouldn’t that be fair? Oh, I get it! It would be too harsh, right? LOL
    I hope the parents suffer multiple injuries like that child did. ;)

    • I think they need the beating and charges… oh wait in jail they don’t like sex offenders, woman beaters or child abusers. So they will get their beating in jail/prison too.

  11. Hate crime because the child has a light complexion? No. Brandon is one of my best friends (I’m probably one of whitest people you will meet. People ask if the moon is out when I wear swim wear) and will remain so until proven guilty. Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m just loyal to my friends until the end. Go ahead and call me or feel for me whatever you like.

    Brandon is the kind of person who will and has taken the fall for friends and those he loves without question. I believe any of his friends (close or not) and family will agree with me.

    I never met this Rosie that he started dating in May/June but once hearing of her and seeing the kind of things she posted online, she did give me a bad vibe. I was happy that he found someone, but also a little concerned.

    I will not be responding to any replies, I just wanted to share some facts. I am a close friend of 10 years who is in the health care field and married to a military man. I just hope that I am able to give some reliable information to the people who don’t know Brandon on a personal level. I believe he is innocent of harming the toddler but guilty for covering up for the mother. I also believe his friends and family should stick behind him (at least until proven other wise) because he has many more against him.

    Lastly, I pray for the life and future well-being of the toddler and both families involved.

    • I also believe he is covering up because she is a known drug abuser. She’s pissed because he went to leave her. Very sad:/

    • Of course the mother’s boyfriend may be innocent, that is what court is for. But why pray and hope for the child “lastly?”. Should that child not be thought of first? If Brandon got caught up with the wrong female, the truth will come out and records will be expunged. This toddler is facing death…

    • People can have different persona..any person can be a good friend, brother ,sister’s, daughter or son but its not a guarrante they can be a good parent or step parent or not capable of hurting other peoples child.

    • Loyalty to guy that hurt a child? That’s wonderful of you. How can you stand by someone like that? Even if he is supposedly taking the fall, he obviously still knew about the abuse and still did nothing to protect that innocent life. To me that’s just as bad as committing the crime. Your friend got caught up with the wrong person, probably into drugs and most likely did unspeakable acts to a baby because he’s a weak person that allowed this to happen. I could never stand by a friend or even family if one of them did this. I hope you feel like a crappy human being when you hear that guilty verdict. By the way, by him admitting to it did nothing to help his girlfriend, she’s charged a long with him. Proof is in the pudding and your Friend deserves the worst.

    • He ADMITTED to PUNCHING a baby. A BABY. Where is your loyalty to a helpless and defenseless CHILD? You’re just as disgusting a human being as he is. I hope they both rot in jail for the rest of their lives.

      • I he admitted to the hospital personal that he hit the child, it cannot be held up in court that is just hear say unless his Miranda rights were read to him, and he admitted to it than. The autopsy report is going to be the one thing that is going to tell the truth, if he was asked how he hit the child and the injury’s do not match with his side than it will tell you that he was covering up for the girlfriend. He will still get time for not protecting the child from his own mother.

    • I have heard a lot of good things about Brandon and I pray that if he is innocent that justice prevail but he did admit to hitting the baby and for a 24 year old man to hit a 22 month old infant would be like a train hitting a small vehicle or yet a man hitting a baby and for what? What could a baby do so bad to be punched? Then why would a mom allow a man not the dad to hit her baby unless she was not stable? I could never allow anyone to punch my infant. I guess some where in all this m essential we will hear the truth but still there is a 22 month old innocent baby fighting for his life and two adults at the blunt of his injuries so someone between the two of them knows and needs to come clean of the situation. I love Rosie she was like a daughter to me but she truly had a side to her I never knew so my prayers goes out to them all but mainly that innocent baby that has suffered behind the evil hands of two people that knows what happened.

    • Here are the real facts. The little boy died last Sunday all alone with no family there. Your “best friend” murdered that little boy. Rosie is no angel and far from innocent but she’s only guilty of allowing it to happen.

  15. I read this story and I was completely floored. Brandon was a pretty good friend of mine in highschool. He was always happy and a joy to be around. I hadn’t seen him in years until a few weeks ago when I saw him at Winco. He looked I’ll, skinny and sunken in, whereas in highschool he never looked that way, always very healthy. I remember telling my wife he looked like he’d gotten into something bad, probably drugs. Its sad to see what happens to originally good people with bad things. Granted looking back on the one highschool party where he ended up shrunk, I can only imagine his pessimistic outlook then would only be amplified by drugs and stress. Pray for the child, the family, and pray for these two. Yes they have committed terrible things but sometimes those are the people who need the most prayer.

      • I have a son that I adopted therefore I do not have pity for him. What he did was heinous, there is no doubt of that. And yes people change. Do I believe he is a monster? I cannot say. I do know, that in my church, we pray for everyone regardless of how terrible they have become. I do not pray for his forgiveness, the lord will provide that, I pray that he finds his way again. I pray that he learns a lesson and that he receives punishment that is just in this day and age.

          • That quote has nothing to do with prayer and everything to do with the judgement being passed. Everybody has their right to their opinion. In this country he will be judged by a jury provided he doesn’t plead out.
            Also, I am not one of these “big religious prayer people.” I pray when I feel it is necessary to do so. That child is in the hands of capable health care professionals, there is nothing I can do for him unless I am on the jury. And rest assured if I am, there will be no deliberation. Both of these people are guilty without me even thinking about it.
            My stand against these people is from my career. As a member of law enforcement and the product of a physically abusive home, I’m probably standing more than most people against the evils. And most assuredly more than you. In my chosen field, you find religion of some sort so that you get home at the end of the day.
            You decided to attack in a forum that should be open, this tells me you do not know how to constructively and respectively state your opinions.
            So now I flip the script on you. What are YOU doing to stop this? Are you going to put on a cape and save all the children? How do you propose to stop it? As long as there are people, there will be evil. As long as people have children, children will be abused. Physical violence you can see, what about the mentally and emotionally abused children? Are you going to save them too when you can’t see their scars?

  16. Prayers for this precious boy! Those that say you knew the monsters.. I pray for you too. We are quick to judge but trust me, monsters are fantastic at hiding who they really are. Until it’s too late and those that were close to them are stunned. This recently happened to me..being close to an absolute monster; 19 years and I was family and a best friend to someone that did an unimaginable act. Please don’t judge the acquaintances etc..judge the pos themselves. Another Gabriel, it pains me to no end. I have contacted the biological dad..please pray for him also. Trying to put a vigil together for this baby boy..I will post details as soon as we can put it all together.

    • I am not meaning to scare you but dads do this too. I can’t tell you the number of dad’s, step’s, uncles, and sibling brothers who do this – so even around dad, watch your kids.

    • I’m a single mother but the thing about this is she was probably already doing it. Bringing a guy around kids that’s not the dad is a big risk Cuz you never know the guy and what he could do. He could come off as amazing and great with the kids but behind closed doors you never know. But when its already an existing problem when he wasn’t even around (and reading comments they have only been together since may or June). But like someone else said, the biological dad could be like this (not saying the one in this case just in general). You really never know a person. But so could a mom and that’s scarier.

If the child she’s holding in the above photo is the one in question, the D.A.’d better have the balls to charge this as a HATE CRIME because we can be almost 100% certain that her new boyfriend did not approve of that poor little angel’s complexion one bit. The cops out here need to learn that racism is rampant & it knows no color of origin.

    • Yes that is her son I know her personally she is actually mixed her mother is white and her dad is black.. Which is y the baby is so fair skin. I pray the baby makes it and I ask god to forgive her if she had anything to do with this horrific crime on a baby

    • Red, Yellow, Black, or White…no child deserves this type of abuse. It doesn’t matter if the parents are black or white – they must be punished for such a senseless, inhumane, and thoughtless crime. Our children don’t stand a chance in this world anymore :(

    • Williams IS not racist! I was in several classes with him through highschool and hung out with him quite a bit during school, often him being the only person of color. Don’t be that quick to pop out the HATE CRIME card…

    • Honestly this could happen to anyone. Drugs, Stress and/or mental illness that isn’t taken care of. It all builds up and everyone has a breaking point weather it be a punching bag, a fight at a bar, a fight with the neighbors, abusing a spouse/animal/child/or other family member. It is so sad that this child had to be the brunt end of whatever was going on in these two peoples lives and I pray for him. But I also pray justice is served and these two get the help they desperately need. Beating them senseless only brings you to their level. I am a mother of two and my children have never even had a smack on the hand. But I have witnessed it first hand what can happen especially if drugs or alcohol is involved. I see the decline of a friend with her children ( there is no physical abuse but the mental abuse is there and it is only another pill or another drink that can push that person over the edge).   21. I am so sick of hearing stories like this. Why beat a child because your life isn’t wonderful? My children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have and always will be very precious to me. We get one chance in life and if we blow it, well we’ll suffer the consequences.

    I pray this baby survives and is loved so much, along with his sibling. God bless them both.

    As for the two maniacs, I hope they suffer in prison. When the inmates find out why they’re in, they’re in for it.

      • Sadly she was worried more about men and drugs then her kids. She would be dressed hair done and her clown make up on but kids in dirty clothes, soggy diapers, noses always dirty with boogers.
        She has burned many of her bridges leaving not many willing to help. I only feel bad for these kids, and pray she never gets to lay eyes on them again.

For us to be more vigilant of all children around us, for some have no one but us to speak up for them. For justice here on earth, but most of all for God’s divine Justice.

  26. I hope this couple is able to get some rigorous counseling and parental education before being allowed around children again. It is tough to be a parent in this day and age. Many young parents lack fundamental knowledge on raising children. Assistance is out there. But few know where to find it.

  28. The real criminals are the Family Law Courts! They are constantly taking father’s out of the lives of their children! I’ll bet you that dad only gets to see the kid every other weekend! Everyone needs to stand up for father’s rights! I’m sure he saw what was happening and tried to get the courts to do something and they ignored him! Where’s all the people now who are outraged by the young man that was killed by the police! We should all be protesting how this poor child was abused and tortured and ultimately may die at the hands of his own mother!

Its worse than finding out an old friend died, finding out an old friend had committed such an evil act. Unfathomable.   37. They found heroin and methadone in the baby’s system
    I’m friends with the people Wilson and Williams lived with right down the street
    They both did drugs everyday , leaving the kids with the people they lived with
    All day and coming home all strung out,Wilson had her kids taken away a couple times before this ,how come there were no check in from the social workers
    Wilson chose her boyfriend over her kids , they broke up a week before this incident happened and she begged him to come back , the people they lived with have to seen this abuse or heard they are 6 people living In the same house and no one knew nothing that’s Bull!! They are not saying what they know .. I talked to the family after this happened and all they were worried about was how long Wilson’s gonna do in jail
    Which is pretty sad I hope they rot where ever they are even the family involved in all this ….

    • All this info was giving to me by the people they lived with after this incident happened I never seen abuse with my own eyes …. of course if I knew this was going on before hand I would have reported it 100% I knew they were messed up people but I didn’t know they were this horrible I was never close to them and I was never in the home like I said I was friends with the people they lived with not Wilson or Williams . So I didn’t know what was going on first hand

    • Having been a foster parent for many years, this is just another case of “Mommy and her man” as the kids would say to me. Some man came ahead of her children and that was all that mattered to her. I have seen abused, starved, scarred, scared, tortured children that needed love and attention and all they got was pain, mistrust of others (who wouldn’t), night terrors and more. I did what I could, it could never be enough, but I am grateful for being adopted myself and made it my life’s work. I would have gladly given my life for my children before I would let anyone do this to my kids and I still would 47 yrs. later. More people have to report and report, go on radio, go to the newspaper, go to TV, after you have tried authorities if you see no action. The extended family, the neighbors, the schools, EVERYONE has to be the keepers of these chiildren, they are helpless. God Bless the innocent, the children.

      • I agree that everyone involved in a child’s life must step up to the plate and do whatever it takes to expose these warning signals. If it were not for our school authorities and my Dad’s youngest brother, I would probably not be here to write this today. Without elongating this writing to go into detail on me, let me say this. As I entered a parent teacher conference with my son’s middle school teacher (my son is mow 30yrs old), I heard another teacher say that she hoped she would not be called to court for s child she just had a conference on. This because she did not want to get involved. So sad that she just may have had to save a child from torture or even death itself.

      • I had a mother who put men before her children. She had 4 girls by 4 different men. My mom was very narcissistic and abused alcohol, crack,and Pcp. She neglected us I never had any attachment to her so it didn’t hurt when DCFS took us. One day when I was 10 she wigged out because she was up all night at one of her baby daddies house smoking crack. The next day was the day her welfare check should have been there. It didn’t come she was mad so she beat my older sister like a b*&Ch in the streets. She went to jail her 4 girls went to foster care. I’m writing a dang book let me wrap it up. We were took my youngest sister who was 6 months had crack in her system she almost died. My mom went to court they told her the conditions to get us back. She chucked up the deuces, left us in foster care never made an effort to even visit. She went on and had two more kids in two years by two different men. I found it odd we couldn’t go live with her but they didn’t take her new babies. Anyways this chick who is my mother had 6 kids by 6 men..4 of the 6 were back to back..different dads. My mom was clearly doing HER. As an adult with my own kids I can’t imagine not being a mother to my kids and not exposing them to harm because of my selfish desires. My mom never raised not one of her 6 kid til 18, even her new babies ended up living with one of their dads because of her antics. So my mom was never able to really grasp motherhood. But better believe she kept a man. Through out all my life she had different man. She didn’t care if they were tall,short,skinny, or fat he just had to be a man. I have been molested by her family members she left us with chasing men. To this day I don’t have a relationship with my mother but she doesn’t care because she has a man…smh.

        • I am sorry for the pain you have gone through. My mom, though wasn’t nearly as bad as your mom, still put men before us. And at 65 years old, she still does this. My mom has only been with three men in my life time. All of us have the same dad. BUT after she left my dad, she met a man she dated for 15+ years and then he died. When he was alive, she would not do anything with us. She then met another man who she is with to this day and though I am 46 years old, she refuses to even go to a store with me because she can’t leave him. So I can’t even imagine the pain you endured. I hurt so I know your pain must be greater. I want to tell you that I am proud of you for doing a better job than your mom did. In life, we can choose to be like our parents, or we can do better by what we learned from them. I too, chose to do better. I feel sorry for my mom that she gave her entire life to men and neglected us. People say, “You are an adult, get over it”. But even adult children need their parents. I wish you the very BEST life. Do well with your kids and make yourself proud. I am proud of you and I am not sure if anyone has ever told you that but I felt it was important that you knew someone was proud of you. I love to hear stories like this. Stay strong and keep your head high. Don’t let your past destroy you. MAKE a GOOD life for yourself despite the pain you had to endure.

I am also someone who has endured child abuse in the foster care system and I think support and praise for the adults who make their life different from what they were raised with and become better people from their struggle by learning how to not copy and continue their parents pattern, is often lacking and deserves to be recogniEd.     • Do you personally know if prior incidents were ever reported in this particular case? If not then before you begin to criticize any agency maybe you should begin with starting with the parent involved and the boyfriend first.
      Tinted windows, is a safety issue for law enforcement because knuckle heads have now qualms about firing at an officer or for that matter a person in another vehicle.

What about this women and man’s friends and family? I’m sure these scumbags showed signs of physical abuse in font of them. Did the scumbags friends and family do anything? I think not.       • Alot of times family and friends have no idea what’s going on. I know a couple who were abusing their children and nobody had a clue that anything was wrong until the 6yr old was sick and had a diarrhea accident and the babysitter had to help her in the bath (my best friend was the sitter and mom always bathed them not her) she saw bruising on the girls back and when she asked what happened the poor baby was so scared she wouldn’t say a word. The babysitter called her mom (she was 16 and didn’t know what to do) and her mom came and called authorities. The parents were very good at fooling everyone into thinking they were a normal happy family and the poor kids were so scared of a worse beating that they never said anything to anyone. I spent a lot of time around these people and I come from an abusive home so I thought I would have saw some sort of warning sign but I never suspected a thing was wrong. It’s possible that no one saw the physical abuse. From the above comments it appears obvious that there was verbal/emotional abuse and neglect that absolutely should have been reported but maybe nobody was aware that they were being physically abused also. Don’t be so quick to assume that someone else knew and nothing was said/done because that’s not always the case. Some people are really good at keeping up appearances and hiding the evil truth about themselves. Luckily for these 4 beautiful children DCF placed them in wonderful loving adoptive homes and their parents are incarcerated for quite a long time. I pray that this poor innocent baby survives this horror and can find a home where he is safe and loved like he deserves to be.

Adopt the baby out to someone who cant have children. Birth Control maybe? There is like a dozen different things you can do if you don’t want children!!! It makes me sick. How can you every single day put hands on your child and see the horrible bruises and the pain your causing this baby and who knows whatever else this poor baby endured. I hope they get them both in jail they shouldn’t be kept away from general population they need to face their crap like everybody else, period .     • If I’m not mistaken, Brandon had a job actually. Who are you to be making assumptions about people because they’re on Welfare? I mean, I know the system isn’t perfect but there are people on the system that actually need it, you know. It’s not just all criminals.
