PALMDALE – A 74-year-old Palmdale man died Tuesday afternoon after his 2003 Toyota Solara drifted off a Palmdale road and crashed into a brick wall and a power pole, authorities said. The driver apparently suffered a medical emergency right before the crash, according to a press release from Detective Brent Bunch of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. Read it below:

On August 12, 2014 (Tuesday) at approximately 12:01 p.m., personnel from Palmdale Sheriff’s Station responded to a motor vehicle collision on 10th Street West, south of Avenue M (which is within the incorporated area of the city of Palmdale).

The driver and his female passenger were transported to a local area hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead. (LUIS MEZA)

The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate the driver [male, age 74] was driving southbound on [10th Street West].

The preliminary investigation indicates he had an undisclosed medical emergency and he drifted from the southbound number 1 lane into the west curb line of 10th street west. The vehicle then collided into a brick wall and a power pole before coming to a rest on the west side walk of 10th street west.

The driver and his female passenger were transported to a local area hospital by the Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, and his passenger’s condition is unknown at this time.

10th street west was closed to routine traffic, between Avenue M and Avenue M-4, until approximately 5 p.m. while this incident was being investigated.

As of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the driver’s name had not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

Hello………….I’m not sure if this accident involves someone my Mother knows or not but I am writing to find out. My Mother lives in Mayflower Gardens next door to Mary and was just told by a neighbor a few days ago that Mary’s daughter Rosie and her husband were involved in a terrible car crash, her husband was killed and Rosie suffered numerous broken ribs. My Mother had to sit down immediately after hearing this terrible news. Can anyone please let us know if Rosie and her husband were involved in this crash? Also if you can let us know how Mary is doing, we understand that she is in the hospital now, as well as Rosie. Our hearts and prayers go out to Mary, Rosie and family.

      Hi Judy,

Yes, this accident involved my uncle and Rosie. Rosie had it tough at the beginning with broken arm and ankle and internal bleeding. She’s had several surgeries and as of today she’s been moved from the hospital to a rehab hospital and she’s doing quite well. My uncle Dick suffered a heart attack while driving and passed away. Yes, Mary is in the hospital, but I don’t know how she’s doing. I do thank you Judy for your prayers……….
