PALMDALE – Several tenants were evacuated, as more than a dozen deputies, a sheriff’s helicopter and Special Enforcement Bureau members surrounded the La Quinta Apartments in Palmdale Saturday, where a gunman was believed to be hiding after shooting two people.

Hours later, the incident ended without an arrest. The victims were not being cooperative with investigators working to determine the motive and suspect wanted in connection with the shooting, according to deputy John Cereoli of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“They’re not saying much, they’re still being interviewed,” Cereoli said Saturday night.

The incident began around 3:20 p.m., Saturday at the La Quinta Apartments on 11th Street East, near Palmdale Boulevard.

“We got a lot of calls about a shooting there, and we responded. We found a couple of people there with gunshot wounds,” Cereoli said.

One man was shot in the hand, and another man was shot in the leg, Cereoli said. Both victims were in their 20s, and their injuries were not life threatening, he said.

“We believed there possibly was a shooter in a building; we had the building surrounded,” Cereoli said.

Tenants in the immediate area were evacuated from their apartments, as authorities made repeated commands for the shooter to exit one of the apartments.

Cereoli said authorities eventually made entry, when a relative arrived on scene with keys to the apartment.

“There was no one inside the apartment,” he said.

The whole incident lasted about five and a half hours, according to Cereoli. The shooting was possibly gang related, but detectives have not confirmed that, Cereoli said.

No further information on the victims or the suspect was made available Saturday night. The incident remains under investigation.

LAPD has made more arrest and is more experienced do some research you’ll see for yourself.

Karla, you absolutely have no clue! In one year of patrol in North County a rookie Deputy gains vast more experience than any cop in LAPD. By the time an A.V. Deputy is considered a veteran, they can handle pretty much more than most veteran LAPD with twice the service. So please crawl back in your box and watch reruns of “Southland.”

avhome, think outside of your little box for once and do some research and read on statistics arrest. Sheriff deputy’s in the AV do not face serious crimes as LAPD has due to being in a higher populated area. “SouthLand” you’ve gotta be kidding.

If these people don’t want to tell who did it, then they should be evicted from their apartment, as they are putting innocent people in danger.

Two people shot and they aren’t talking? I have a feeling the cops will be back there for another shooting because they want to handle things themselves. I hope not because my niece was less than a hundred yard away when the shooting took place. And I have several family members that live there. From what I heard, this incident started the day before with a fight, then they fought again and that’s when the shooting happened. Sounds like it’s an ongoing thing that isn’t over yet.

No kidding. After 3 decades of our local and county politicians selling their souls for a buck, this is what we’ve been left to deal with after they retire and leave the statel. Most everyone I know from childhood has vacated the valley in disgust.
