Animal license checks in unincorporated Palmdale

by The AV Times Staff • December 26, 2012

ANTELOPE VALLEY – Officers from the Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) will be in the unincorporated areas in the vicinity of Palmdale beginning January 2, 2013.

Officers will be checking for current rabies vaccinations and ensuring that residents are in compliance with licensing requirements, as well as the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance.

California State law requires that all dogs and cats over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies and be licensed. Securing a dog or cat license is an important part of identification and can assist animal control agencies if your pet becomes lost.

Pet owners are advised to be in compliance with licensing and the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance if they reside in any unincorporated area of Los Angeles County (or contract city that has adopted the County’s ordinance).

Residents not in compliance will be subject to license fees and delinquency charges, including a $40 field enforcement fee, to offset the cost of the Department’s field services.

In order to avoid penalties, be sure to license your pet. You can secure a new animal license by printing the application online at http://animalcare.lacounty.gov, or visiting your local County animal care center. If your license is not delinquent, you can also renew it through the Internet.

DACC offers low cost vaccination/microchips clinics (microchips are now $15, which includes national registration) and low cost assistance (for individuals who qualify) for spay and neuter surgeries.

For more information about these services, visit http://animalcare.lacounty.gov or stop by your local County animal care center.

For more information about DACC, find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CountyofLosAngelesAnimalCare, or follow them on Twitter @LACoAnimalCare.

Really? Nothing better to do? Are they going door to door asking people this crap? Last time I went to Palmdale I noticed that they could be doing a lot more for the city than checking to see if your pet is microchipped..

Dogs need to be licensed and chipped so when they bite someone they can find the owner.

along with mandatory micro chipping we need to make it mandatory for vets to scan all new dogs brought in to them. When a friend’s dog was stolen he was told by a vet that they don’t routinely scan dogs. The system only works if vets and shelter employees use it.

License your pets, your defenses (guns), your vehicles, your homes, etc… They need to know who has what, where, when, how many of each in case you become a threat… Who thinks this is just a practice run to make everyone comfortable with chipping before making bids on a national chipping program? Let’s see, next will be chipping sex offenders, then inmates in order to let them out of prison sooner (after all, it’ll save money). Then children (It’ll make our schools safer). Then finally everyone else? Hmmm

Chipping is one of the most effective ways of returning lost/missing pets to their rightful owners. Collars can come off but the chips will be there. ALL of my pets are chipped so that if “worst case scenario” ever happens I am more likely to be reunited with them.

Where can you go that pets don’t need licenses and rabies shots?Don’t think I want to live there.

Oh, you mean you don’t want someone’s rabid, viral dog coming after you, your family or your pets?

You must be part of the (sarcasm)”problem” with the A.V.

(sarcasm again) I think I need to move to someplace where people don’t have to spay, license and vaccinate their animals…a place where they let their rabid animals bite everyone and run unlicensed puppy mills. Yes, I’m there!

        Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Seriously Matt, some kids just have a problem with limits and boundaries.

Some of the problem is when pet limits are enforced and you have to decide which of your rescued dogs you have to let them take.
If someone has healthy, spayed and neutered well fed dogs, with shots, chips and fences, what is the problem? The yard is clean and they pickup their poop. You can only license 3 dogs to your address. Why should you have to a special permit to keep your dogs?

I defiantly agree. I’m a sucker for rescue dogs. I live on a 1/4 acre and currently have six well mannered potty trained spoiled dog that kick me out of my bed every night lol i’m a sucker when I see a lost dog on the streets. I’ve taken so many dogs of the streets and got them prepared to be introduce to a permanent family. Most these dogs were malnourished and scared of being advised. I found out that since I don’t have a permit to have a kennel operation I could be fined even though I collect NO MONEY when I rehome. I’m a single mother that has been out of work for a year so it’s hard to obtain a kennel license and due to animal control guidelines I can’t get them licensed so when they come I guess imma lose the if the dogs as the others are licensed. Kinda sucky
