Cigarette shop robbed at gunpoint

LANCASTER – A gunman wearing hospital scrubs, a surgical mask and a shower cap held up a Lancaster cigarette shop Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at J’s Cig at 1248 West Avenue K in Lancaster, according to Lancaster Community Relations deputy Michael Rust.

A man, dressed in hospital attire, entered the store, brandished a handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of money, Rust said.

“Nobody was injured,” Rust said. “Apparently it was just the clerk in the store by himself, and it was a typical stick up.”

The thief, described as a black male about 30 years old, fled the scene on a bicycle, sheriff’s officials said.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact Lancaster Station’s Robbery Suppression Team at 661-948-8466. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

I’ve seen (presumed) teenagers in those full-body spandex suits (www.rootsuit.com). I wonder how long until someone commits an armed robbery in one of them?

Wow. I don’t even know what to say about this one. I guess it’s different and creative so maybe “those people” aren’t entirely dumb. Could of used this creativity in a better way I would imagine.

I wasted almost a year at a “career” school in the AV and saw more police activity there than in the 8 years I worked at a notorious local bar.

Sad to say but it’s the continuing crime that is going to put small businesses out of business.

I agree with you, but these cigarette shops and pawn shops that get robbed, I really would be happy to see them go! My heart does go out to the average business owner that gets caught up in this mess, but unfortunately that is part of the reason for insurance. These hold ups happen everywhere unfortunately.

I would be happy to see them go too! Especially since they cater to some of the worst elements in society.

What is up with all the crime lately? I thought the economy was doing good and there was a recovery happening?

I wouldn’t put it past one of the students from the ghetto ass career care institute students to have done it. Shot they rob their students so I bet the student went and robbed a store jus to pay them. That school should be put outta business for the way they run their business and stole from the poor that’s tryn to better themselves.
