‘Most Wanted’ robbery suspect beats teen unconscious

by M. Dilworth • October 16, 2012

PALMDALE – A ‘Most Wanted’ robbery suspect who escaped a manhunt two weeks ago is now accused of beating a teenager unconscious, authorities said.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday at Sonoma Apartment Homes in Palmdale and involved 29-year-old Marcus Edmonds and a 16-year-old boy, said Palmdale Community Relations Deputy Robbie Royster.

The teen told deputies that the assault may have been sparked by an encounter he had with Edmonds earlier that day, Royster said.

“They were both at a grocery store and the victim said ‘hey I saw you on Palmdale’s Most Wanted,’ and so they got into an argument,” Royster said.

Later on that night, the teen was at home with his mother and younger brother, when Edmonds and several of his associates came by, Royster said.

“According to the victim, there were upwards of 15 people with him, and they kicked open the door,” Royster said. “The door flies open and strikes the four-year-old in the face and gives the four-year-old a bloody nose.”

The teen told deputies the group stormed the apartment and immediately began punching and kicking him until he lost consciousness, Royster said.

“They assault this 16-year-old kid, and then as fast as they’re there, they leave and mom calls police,” Royster said.

The teen was taken to Palmdale Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.

“Detectives are still working with the victim to find out the underlying story regarding his association with Marcus and what store they were at,” Royster said.  “That is information that the victim hasn’t been forthcoming with.”

The victim and the victim’s mother positively identified Edmonds as the man involved in Monday’s attack, and now Edmonds is wanted for assault on top of all his other charges.

Marcus Edmonds is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for robbery, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, and most recently, assault.

As The AV Times reported recently, Edmonds was the target of a nearly three-hour manhunt on October 2, after he ran into an east Palmdale apartment complex to escape deputies. (Read more here). At the time, Edmonds was wanted for robbing an elderly lady at gunpoint and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Edmonds narrowly escaped the manhunt and has so far eluded capture. The apartment complex where Edmonds allegedly assaulted the teen is right around the corner from the complex that Edmonds ran into to escape deputies on October 2, Royster said.

“We have all these resources dedicated to trying to take him into custody, and now we have an incident where somebody has identified that he’s on Most Wanted, and he’s viciously assaulted that individual,” Royster said.  “It’s a very high priority for us to get him off the streets and into custody.”

Officials are seeking the public’s help in locating Edmonds, who is described as a 29-year-old Black Male with black hair and brown eyes, approximately 5-feet-11-inches tall, and weighing around 175 lbs.

Anyone with information on Marcus Edmonds is asked to contact detective Arnold at the Palmdale Station at 661-272-2469 or 661-272-2400. If you would like to remain anonymous, you may do so by calling Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

He must be stopped before he kills someone!

Behind his dark eyes lurks an underlying intelligence, combined with his animal-like instincts to evade capture makes him the perfect creature to incite fear and confusion in our hearts.

    He must be stopped!

Something seams fishy, I have ?’s, like how did this guy know where this Kid (who is a perfect stranger)lives. I think the kid probably knew this guy in some capacity. And why isn’t the kid being forthcoming with the Police?

I agree that the two had to have known each other prior. That’s what I gathered from the spokesman saying … “Detectives are still working with the victim to find out the underlying story regarding his association with Marcus…”

There must be something else there!

        October 17, 2012 at 11:01 am

Yeah. that “something else” is his failure to turn the guy because of the black community’s “no snitching” policy!

Funny how you claim to have the “black community” all figured out. I will not even go there with you and your generalizations anymore.

But just know that if I ever catch you or anyone else committing crime in my neighborhood, I will turn your ass in in a heartbeat! My neighborhood is virtually crime free because we have a neighborhood watch that dimes out would be criminals before they even think about committing crime. And yes, my neighborhood is part of the “black community.”

Maybe you can explain that to all of the people who have been hurt and killed (including people in your black community) over the stupid “no snitching” policy when it comes to crime.

You don’t have to worry about me committing any crime though. I am a tax paying, working homeowner and Mom of three and the last thing I ever want to do is involve myself in crime.

I do understand your need to beat your chest about your willingness to “turn my ass in” though.

In describing your wonderful attributes, you forgot to add “I am a person who is willing to generalize an entire race of people based on a stereotype.”

I can agree with you on something though. The “no snitching” policy is very stupid. But so is thinking that it is the “black community’s no snitching policy.”

And yes, I beat my chest when turning in any criminal, YOU included!!

            October 18, 2012 at 9:41 am

Yeah… stereotypes happen because of ignorance. Are you proud to be ignorant buddy?

          • Melanie says

            October 18, 2012 at 10:11 am

Stereotypes happen because people do stereotypical things and then nobody does anything to address them.

Like the crackdown on Section 8. This “letlow” person thinks he is “tough on crime, blah, blah, blah…”

But I guess I’m not the only one who saw him get his jollies when they announced that there wont be anymore crackdowns on Section 8, which is one of the most corrupt programs infested with criminal activity that this nation has ever seen and your defense of them speaks volumes!

          • New2AV says

            October 18, 2012 at 12:21 pm

I am far from ignorant buddy if I am stating a fact. If a certain group of people didn’t continually do the same ignorant crap over and over and over again then there would be no stereoptypes of the ignorant. Bud. Stop making excuses and be a man in your community. Make you can influence others to man up.

            @New2AV

My “community” is law abiding, tax paying, contributing members of society, like myself. But because I am an unashamed Black person, you consider the criminal in this article to be part of my “community”? So I should take responsibility for him somehow???? WOW!!! Talk about ignorance!!!!

I’m shocked, shocked I say, that you slave owners and racist pigs aren’t sympathizing with this poor, misunderstood and unfairly treated victim of the blatant discrimination in our community. He just needs more welfare, handouts and entitlements such as Section 8 to make him a contributing member of society.

Years ago, “Section 8” denoted mental illness and being unfit for military duty. An appropriate name for a policy so detrimental to the quality of our lives. Our politicians should be held accountable for the destruction of our Valley by lowlife scumbags like this and illegals aliens making this area a third world [removed]hole.

The only person “making this area a third world [removed]hole” is you with your hatred of another race for no reason only to spread hate for anyone who’s not you. You and I share the same blood (red) and we share the same amount of limbs and features (nose,mouth,ears,eyes..etc)so what makes you so better than anyone else. Go back to Europe if you don’t like it here, no ones keeping you.

You just have to love the mentality of these people! Instead of discretely calling 9-1-1 or the sheriffs department, this guy approaches the scumbag to tell him he’s seen him on “Palmdale’s Most Wanted” as if to congratulate him or something.

No “snitching”, just congratulations! I really hope they catch this POS soon!

Poor kid. He’s been “told” what will happen, in NO uncertain terms, what will happen to not just himself, but now his mother and the baby, if he cooperates. I hope the sheriffs not only pick this bad man up soon, but keeps the family safe from his associates who appear to be more than willing to hurt this family!

I agree. If all he wanted to do was beat the kid up, he could have gone to his house alone or caught up with him when he was alone. It’s clear he was making sure he sent a message to family, neighbors and everyone else. How did he know where the kid lived? hmmm

    • Melanie says

      October 17, 2012 at 8:48 am

I’ve got news for you, the economy can get better too…and it will! And when it does you’ll be apartment hunting in Barstow! Nobody HAS to rent to Section 8 and it is a privilege for you if they do. It is also a privilege that can be taken away if they decide to sell their home to a LEGITIMATE, TAX PAYING PERSON to live in! Then it’s on to a smaller house with your ass or out of town completely! I dont think you truly grasp the ramifications of being at the mercy of a government funded program.

Why do you think the government changed the rules of Section 8 to make it “portable” to all 50 states? They did it so that if the prices in one area get too high, the voucher could be taken somewhere else thats cheaper!
