
PALMDALE – Mayor Jim Ledford, who is recovering from a heart attack he suffered earlier this year, will lead hundreds of residents in taking steps to fight heart disease and stroke at the Antelope Valley Heart Walk tomorrow (Oct. 6.)
Ledford will be the special guest at the annual 5K walk/run, which takes place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Marie Kerr Park at 39700 30th Street West in Palmdale.
An estimated 500 Antelope Valley residents will come together for the American Heart Association event, which brings attention to the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers – heart disease and stroke.
The annual event aims to raise awareness and $25,000 for the mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The Heart Walk also aims to build healthier lives by promoting healthy habits, such as walking, as a regular part of life.
Saturday’s event will feature:
- A 1-mile Survivor Route
- Health expo
- Live entertainment
- Free blood pressure screenings
- Free CPR demonstration
- An interactive Kids Zone, and more.
