PALMDALE – Palmdale detectives are on the hunt for two thieves who smashed their way into an east Palmdale store and stole money from the store’s register.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning at the Tobacco Shop, located at 248 E. Palmdale Boulevard.
An alarm company notified the store owner that the alarm had been tripped, and then the store owner contacted the Palmdale Station around 1:10 a.m., said Community Relations Deputy Robbie Royster.
“The victim went to the store and saw that the store glass had been shattered,” Royster said. “Two bars on the bottom part of the security gate were bent upward.”
Royster said the thieves pried through the security gate and then broke open the register and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
“There was loose change scattered all over the place,” Royster said.
One of the burglars was caught on the store’s security surveillance video, which deputies reviewed at the scene.
“The suspect is described as a Black male wearing a white tank top and blue and white shorts,” Royster said. “He appeared to be wearing an unknown piece of clothing that was hiding his face, as well as sunglasses.”
The second suspect was not caught on video surveillance, Royster said.
Authorities are still reviewing the store’s security video, and will be releasing the images to the media if they are unable to identify the suspects, Royster said.
