UPDATED: Parolee sexually assaults woman in store parking lot

by The AV Times Staff • July 12, 2012

PALMDALE – An alert employee and quick work by Palmdale deputies Wednesday helped nab a parolee who had just sexually assaulted a woman in an Auto Zone parking lot, authorities said.

Corey Green, 41, was arrested for attempted rape, penetration with a foreign object, and sexual battery. He is being held without bail due to his parole status.

“He’s on parole for sexual assault charges, he has an ankle monitor and he’s also a registered sex offender,” said Palmdale Community Relations deputy Robbie Royster.

The following is the press report from the Palmdale Station:

Palmdale Deputies arrested a parolee Wednesday afternoon after he sexually assaulted a victim in a store parking lot.

The incident occurred when Palmdale Station received a call from an informant indicating they believed a Black male was harassing a female in the parking lot of the Auto Zone located near the 1100 Block of east Palmdale Blvd.

When deputies arrived, they were confronted by a 37-year-old female victim who told them she had just been sexually assaulted by a man that approached her in the parking lot.

The victim told deputies she was working on her vehicle in the lot of the store when the suspect approached her and claimed to be a mechanic. When the victim refused the suspect’s offer to help, the suspect became angry and pinned her against the vehicle and began sexually assaulting her. The victim attempted to resist the suspect, but was over powered while she pled for help.

The assault continued until suddenly the suspect was interrupted by a store employee who was walking through the parking lot. Seeing the store employee walking in the parking lot, she asked for help, and told them she had just been assaulted by the suspect who was walking away.

The employee jumped in his personal vehicle and began following the suspect while communicating with other store employees. The store employee followed the suspect towards the Courson Park area, near 11th Street East and Avenue Q12, where he lost sight of him.

This information was broadcast to responding units who used the detailed description of the suspect to locate 41-year-old Corey Green, walking northbound 10th Street East from the Courson Park area. Deputies detained Green, who was later positively identified as the suspect who assaulted the victim in the parking lot.

The victim was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of her injuries sustained during the attack and is currently working with investigators on the incident.

Green was transported to Palmdale Sheriff Station where he is being held on charges of Attempted Rape, Penetration with a Foreign Object, and Sexual Battery.

It was later discovered Green is also on active parole with an ankle monitor for sexual assault and is currently a registered sex offender. He is being held without bail due to his parole status and is scheduled for arraignment on July 13,2012.

The ongoing investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Special Victims Bureau.

UPDATED 7/13/12: Sheriff’s officials have released a booking photo of Corey Green. Anyone who has been victimized by Corey Green is urged to contact law enforcement.

MY GOD! YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH…I PERSONALLY KNEW THIS MAN AND HUNG AROUND HIM AND NEVER IN MY WILDEST THOUGHTS WOULD I HAVE THOUGHT HE WERE CAPABLE OF THIS. MY BF LIVES IN THE SAME BUILDING HE DID AND THEY WERE BOTH REALLY GOOD FRIENDS AND HE PLAYED WITH MY SON. BOTH MYSELF AND MT BF WERE STUNNED TO FIND THIS OUT. HE HAD JUST BEEN RELEASED FROM JAIL NOT THAT LONG AGO MAYBE LIKE A FEW MONTHS AGO. THIS MAN IS A FATHER, A BF, AND A RELATIVE TO MANY—I FEEL FOR THE FAMILY. FOR HIS SON ESPECIALLY WHO IS KNOW FACT ALWAYS DEFENDED HIS FATHER AND IDOLIZED HIM.

I have to be honest here, judging by his photos you can tell something is not right with this man. Maybe you should reevaluate your boyfriend if he was this mans really good friend.

WHOA… are you saying this civilian, without PROOF of a crime (since he did not personally witness this), FOLLOWED this guy into a park area.. and while he was telling his co-workers what was going on they told the police?

Did the police “order” him to stop following the guy?

This is a man suspected of committing a very serious and violent crime. Why would the police not advise (or order) the guy to stop following the suspect?

I mean, who knows what kind of consequences could come of this vigilante behavior?

He was staying back, but keeping his eyes on him so he didn’t get away.
Good work and great effort. If he was my son I would be proud that he helped.

wft…I know you are not talking to me.
SJGranai is making the same excuses people make when something is going on right in front of their faces and they do nothing.
Or, was he being sarcastic? hmmm

SJGranai’s point, I think, was that the dispatcher should have advised the employee to not follow the attacker, for the safety of the reporting party. The dispatcher should assume the worst and try to protect people through their instructions. I think he was more concerned with the procedure followed by the dispatcher. He is not defending the attacker.

He wasn’t even saying the person shouldn’t have followed the attacker, just that the dispatcher should have told him to stop.

I would have followed him too! That way the police can’t use the excuse they couldn’t find him and find some reason to arrest the stranded woman and impound her car. Happens all the time. It’s an outrage.

It happens all the time? Please show one incident that backs that up. You seem to be suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. I am sure police are looking to arrest a woman who was victimized rather than a serial predator. Thank you for allowing us all to see that your hatred of police keeps you from making an intelligent remark. Im sure that if you found yourself being raped you wouldnt call the police based on your lack of faith in them….right?

            Really,
I don’t need to justify anything to you, but,I do NOT hate police.
Look at how the police handled the family at AV Hospital who called for help to keep their drug influenced father from driving away from the hospital. They arrested the whole family in the heat of the situation, perhaps the inability to understand what was going on. No alcohol,no drugs, just a misunderstanding or miscommunication. Even the mom who was over 60 was arrested.
Of course you can think the police should not have been called…the hospital said if the people needed help, they should call the police.
If I was being raped????? That’s a little extreme, don’t you think? Who in the process of being raped has time to call the police? If I had been raped, I would go to the hospital and the hospital would call the police when they did the rape kit.
If I called 911, I’d be transferred to the Lancaster Station, and be at the mercy of someone answering the phones to decide which call was more important.
So again, I would have followed the guy too, and relayed the information to a co worker. They were lucky to have a quick response and not have to follow him for 2 or 3 hours.

I barely understand realignment myself but I do know that violent criminals or sex offenders are not part of its strategy.

The three “nons” are nonserious, nonviolent, nonsexual crimes. This means this man would not have a part in the realignment process or early release.

So you may be jumping the gun in blaming this on Gov. Brown and his realignment. If I am wrong, please correct me. But I don’t believe that I am.

        July 13, 2012 at 10:29 am

-AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD –
Release is based on the last charge and the criminal history has no bearing on the release.
So if they were arrested for a “nonserious, nonviolent, nonsexual crime” previously they could and would be out on parole now.

I’m all for rehab, but there are certain crimes that in my opinion show proof of serious mental issues and require some form of monitoring and control for the remainder that individuals life.
It’s obvious that GPS ankle bracelet doesn’t stop assault/rape.

You are right it is based on the current crime, however it doesnt take into account past crime. Also these people cant be violated like they used to. They can be violated and sent to county jail but only for a short period of time. There is also very little mandated supervision of these people. There will be an increase in crime due to the poor planning and execution of this naive decision.

        July 13, 2012 at 1:04 pm

under AB109, released sex offenders are not supervised by the same people as before October 2011. A sex offender released in October only recently got a ankle monitor on..less than a month ago. Meantime, he has been in and out of a type of business that sex offenders are not allowed to be. When I called to report, I was told I needed to take pictures to prove it. Yeah…nevermind. Not my job.
