Car crash claims life of Antelope Valley youth

LITTLEROCK – A 13-year-old boy was partially ejected through a rear window and killed in a car accident Tuesday night, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Christopher Tovar, 13, of Littlerock, was one of four passengers in a 1994 Honda Accord driven by 18-year-old Gerardo Tovar Jr. around 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, the report states.

Gerardo Tovar Jr. was traveling east on Avenue R, just east of 107th Street East, when he drove onto a dirt shoulder and lost control of the car, the report states.

The car struck a concrete pole, rotated and struck a wooden electrical pole, then rolled onto its left side and struck a tree, the report states. Christopher Tovar, who sat unrestrained in the middle of the back seat was partially ejected through the rear window and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision, the report states.

Driver Gerardo Tovar Jr., and the three other passengers in the vehicle – Alfonso Garcia, 18, David Sotelo, 20, and Juan Carreno Gaytan, 18, all from Littlerock – suffered minor injuries in the crash and were transported to the Antelope Valley Hospital.

No other information was immediately available Wednesday afternoon regarding the crash.
