780 pounds of marijuana seized in Lake LA traffic stop

LAKE LOS ANGELES – A routine traffic stop in Lake Los Angeles Thursday uncovered more than 780 pounds of marijuana, and two men were arrested, authorities announced.

The traffic stop was conducted by Lancaster Station Deputy Gruppie around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, near 240th Street East and Avenue J-8, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputy Gruppie is the resident deputy in Lake LA… he conducted a traffic stop of a Ford F-150 for having an altered, illegible license plate and towing a trailer with no working tail lights. Additionally, the vehicle and trailer were emitting a very strong odor of marijuana,” the news release states.

“During his investigation, Deputy Gruppie uncovered over 780 pounds of marijuana in the trailer,” the news release states.

Both occupants of the vehicle — 30-year-old Omar Villa and 31-year-old Aurelio Carrillo — were arrested for transportation of marijuana and booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, officials said in the news release.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station at 661-948-8466.

Not very smart. Of course thats going to have a strong smell and yes that alone is reason for pulling them over. Also, the tail lights on the trailer probably wasn’t working correctly. Im glad they got arrested and this will be confiscated and destroyed. Good job Deputies!

Our valley is gone. When you have the onion farmer Calandri planting pot instead of food for people and telling people in the AV its for rope making, but opens a dispensary out of the AV. You know this valley is gone. Good luck getting the Space Force here, when the Generals see themselves the availability of drugs in the valley they will pick another small community since drug use is high in our military. I hope more bust take place.

Okay, if you have nearly half a ton of marijuana, surely you can afford to fix the lights on your trailer?

Yeah, smells like BS. The classic “your tail lights aren’t working because I wanted to pull you over but didn’t have probable cause.” Gruppie is dirty, but most of them are so what can ya do?”

If you can’t smell that cargo going down the road, you have Covid. Tim, look at the taillights on that trailer. Not a single lens on the left, half on the right. All filled with dirt. I realize these might be your friends, but bashing the deputy with photographic evidence even you should be able to see is out of character even for you.

Also, look at the license plate not visible. These guys were begging to get pulled over and they didn’t even know it.

Come on, Tim. Stop being a renegade. Those two fools were not too bright. They were pulled over because of improper trailer equipment and caught with their pants down.
Quite obvious to most of us.
        Good job, LASD.
