LANCASTER – The Young Entrepreneurs Academy gained some insight in the world of public relations during a recent field trip to Passantino Andersen Communications, a local award-winning public affairs firm.

Each year students enrolled in the program have visited the firm to improve their strategic communication skills and help pitch their companies and products to investors.

“It’s become an annual tradition for our team to meet these young entrepreneurs,” said Founder and Managing Partner George Passantino. “Our goal is to provide them the tools they need to help their companies start off in the right direction.”

Students learned about three key elements: message development, branding, and logo concepts. This year, Passantino Andersen decided to break the students into groups for a hands-on challenge.

Each team was asked to modify an existing client’s name and logo and to provide a key marketing message. Once the teams were finished, they presented their ideas and concepts. Unbeknownst to them, a special guest speaker was in the audience — JC Burnett, founder and president of Loadchief, an application that connects courier companies with independent drivers.

The young entrepreneurs were excited to find out they had pitched their ideas to the actual founder of the company that was part of the exercise.

“Being able to witness each team brainstorm their ideas and develop a concept was extraordinary,” said Founder JC Burnett. “Interesting enough some of the ideas they discussed were actually part of the firm’s concepts; great minds do think alike.”
