LANCASTER – Children of all ages, child care professionals, businesses, schools, and community organizations are invited to participate in the 2015 Laps4Literacy event, a fundraiser and family play day promoting the importance of literacy.

The sixth annual community-wide event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at the JetHawks Stadium in Lancaster. Activities kick off at 8 a.m. with a 5K walk/run. This year’s 5K route begins at the JetHawks Stadium and has expanded into the streets of Lancaster.

There is a $25 registration fee, which includes a T-shirt and custom water bottle. Registration is available online at www.ccrcca.org, and residents are invited to register as individuals or as a team. Children 15 and under can participate at no charge.

All proceeds will be used to place books directly in the hands of young children in the Antelope Valley community, according to organizers.

FREE Family Play Day!

Following the 5K will be a free Family Play Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All activities are open to the public. There will be a special fun run for the kids, music, live entertainment, raffle prizes and lots of activities for children. Every child will go home with a free book, and families will receive a bag of just-picked fruits and vegetables, while supplies last.

“We are very excited for this year’s Laps4Literacy event. Last year we had over 2,500 participants and are expecting that figure to double this year,” stated Child Care Resource Center’s Director of Communications, Susan Montalvo. “With the new expanded 5K route, we encourage all athletes to come out and participate at the JetHawks Stadium on October 10 for some family fun and exercise that also benefits a good cause.”

Laps4Literacy is a community event in the Antelope Valley that promotes the importance of literacy in conjunction with CCRC’s literacy campaign, “What a Difference a Book Makes.” Every child that attends Laps4Literacy will take home an age appropriate book.

Sponsors for this event include Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson, Affordable Tire and the Lancaster JetHawks. For more information and 5K registration, visit CCRC’s website at www.ccrcca.org or contact the Communications Department at 1-866-67-4KIDS.
