PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s 2015 Season of Service program – Manzanita Magic – originally scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 28, has been postponed due to the potential of inclement weather. It will be rescheduled for Saturday, March 7, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Manzanita Heights Park, located at 5th Street West and Mesa Verde Street.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

All participants must complete a Release of Liability (available at www.cityofpalmdale.org or at event registration). Participants must wear closed-toe shoes, be prepared to walk over uneven terrain, and use work gloves and sun protection. Water will be provided. Verification of service hours is available.

The event is part of the Palmdale’s continuing participation in the “National Day of Service” in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“This will be our first ‘Season of Service’ event at Manzanita Heights Park,” stated Community Programs Supervisor Trish Jones. “Our previous cleanups at Marie Kerr and Domenic Massari parks were huge successes. Hundreds of residents have given their time, energy and talents to help beautify our community.”

The ‘Season of Service’ is designed to offer service projects for residents to join, as well as provide information for community members to develop their own projects.

“In 2014, our residents donated over 40,000 hours of service in the various projects,” Jones stated. “All it takes to volunteer is a willingness to give, an interest in your community, and your time. There is no minimum number of hours required, every hour donated is valuable. And, there’s practically no limit to how you can get involved.”

Other projects in the 2015 “Season of Service” will include:

Courson – Clean & Green – Saturday, March 28 – Courson Park/SAVES/Recreation & Culture cleanup and rehabilitation. Time: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Global Youth Service Day – Saturday, April 25 – Youth, families and the young at heart are invited to participate in a park beautification at Marie Kerr Park, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd. Time: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

To learn more about the “Season of Service” or other service-orientated projects, call 661-267-5665 or visit www.cityofpalmdale.org/ServiceDays.
