PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale will launch its first community garden project as part of its “Season of Service” program this Saturday.

The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the city’s Yucca Neighborhood House, located at 503 East Avenue Q-3 in Palmdale.

“We’re asking residents to join us for what we’re calling ‘Beds, Paths & Beyond,’”    said Community Programs Supervisor Trish Jones. “It’s an opportunity to work with City staff and neighbors to help create Palmdale’s first community garden.”

Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must complete a Release of Liability (available at www.cityofpalmdale.org or at event registration). Participants are requested to wear closed-toe shoes, be prepared to walk over uneven terrain, and use work gloves and sun protection. Water will be provided. Verification of service hours is available.

Palmdale’s “Season of Service” is designed to offer service projects for residents to join, and includes a monthly service day as well as information for community members to develop their own projects. It is presented in continual recognition and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
