PALMDALE – Antelope Valley Mall’s “Bite Out Hunger” event raised $1,210 and collected 60 canned food items this year, according to organizers.

The daylong event was held on July 20, and was designed to give Mall guests a taste of all 12 Food Court restaurants while benefiting local food banks.

The event included face painting by Silly Faces Face Painting.

For a $5 donation, Mall guests received a punch card to redeem a food sample at each of the 12 Food Court restaurants. Guests who donated five or more canned food items earned a chance to spin the Prize Wheel for gift cards.

Participating Food Court restaurants included Wetzel’s Pretzels, Oishii Japan, Hot Dog on a Stick, Subway, N’Joy Popcorn, Villa Pizza, McDonald’s, Chinese Gourmet, Taco Bell, Great Steak & Potato, Mediterranean Delight and Surf City Squeeze.

The event also featured cooking demonstrations by chefs from Yard House, Claim Jumper, and Hilton Garden Inn. A face painter and a balloon artist were also on hand to craft colorful creations.

Donations raised from the “Bite Out Hunger” event were split evenly between Grace Resources Center in Lancaster and South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) in Palmdale.
