SAVES accepting donations for Back-to-School Program

by The AV Times Staff • August 13, 2012

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) is accepting donations for its annual Back-to-School program.

“So far this year, we have provided 155 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students who are in need of these materials for their studies,” said SAVES Coordinator Patricia Morales. “We will need to give away at least that many to our younger clients later this month, so we are encouraging residents to help us provide these much-needed items by making donations in the form of supplies or monetary contributions.”

School supplies that are needed include:

  • backpacks,
  • pencil boxes,
  • eight count markers,
  • eight count fine tip markers,
  • calculators,
  • black and blue pens,
  • compass erasable pens,
  • index cards,
  • three ring binders,
  • school scissors (blunt),
  • watercolors,
  • pencils,
  • spiral notebooks and
  • watercolors.

Donations are needed by August 28.

“If anyone would prefer to make a monetary donation, they may do so by making their check payable to the Palmdale Community Foundation with ‘SAVES’ noted on the memo line,” Morales said.

Supplies and monetary donations may be brought to SAVES, located at 1002 E. Ave. Q-12 in Palmdale.
