UPDATED: Driver ID’d in fatal collision with big rig

by K. Enrique • July 2, 2012

ANTELOPE VALLEY – A 29-year-old Palmdale man was killed early this morning (July 2), after he ran a stop sign and was broadsided by a big rig tractor trailer, according to a California Highway Patrol Report.

The fatal collision happened around 6 a.m., on SR-138 (Avenue D) and 110th Street West.

The Palmdale man was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on 110th Street West, approaching SR-138 (Avenue D), at an unknown rate of speed.

For unknown reasons, the man failed to stop for the posted stop sign at SR-138, the CHP report states. His vehicle was struck, broadside, by a 2007 Freightliner that was traveling eastbound on SR-138.

The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.

The driver of the Freightliner, 54-year-old Tomas Sanchez, was transported by ground ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

UPDATED 7/3/2012: The deceased driver has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher Paul Carrol of Palmdale, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
