PALMDALE – With the days getting shorter and Daylight Saving Time almost here, the City of Palmdale is offering residents an affordable way to keep their homes safer by giving away free compact fluorescent light bulbs as part of its home security campaign this year.

“One of the best ways to prevent a home burglary is to have good lighting,” said Palmdale’s Crime Prevention Officer Ruth Oschmann, “and fluorescent bulbs help by providing light in a cost effective manner. We’re giving away boxes of these bulbs, along with tips on burglary prevention, to our residents who stop by City Hall during regular business hours.”

The light bulbs may be picked up at Palmdale City Hall, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite A, at the Administration front counter, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 6 pm. There is a limit of four boxes of light bulbs per family.

Light bulbs were donated by Rite Aid and will also be distributed through the City’s 420-plus Neighborhood Watch Groups and at the Antelope Valley Mall over the holiday season at the City’s Public Safety booth.

“This holiday season, we will be providing residents through various seminars and outreach efforts with information and useful tips to help our residents protect their homes, ensure their personal safety while shopping and enjoying the holidays,” said Palmdale’s Community Safety Supervisor Kelly Long. “It is important to know how to protect yourself, and this presentation will give you helpful hints so you are not a ‘soft target’ for holiday criminals,” she added.
