LANCASTER – The Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park tennis and pickleball courts will temporarily close from Sept. 5 to Nov. 1 for renovations, Lancaster city officials announced.

The revitalization project will include the resurfacing of all tennis and pickleball courts, and the addition of four new pickleball courts to create space for additional players.

Landscaping enhancements and sidewalk improvements will also take place, as well the installation of new nets, poles, windscreen, and court signage. The project will also include additional drinking fountains, benches, and trash cans.

“This renovation project aligns with the city’s commitment to providing a range of recreational opportunities that strengthen community bonds and promote healthy living commitment by transforming the park’s tennis and pickleball courts into a modern and inclusive recreation hub,” according to a news release from the city of Lancaster.

For more information on this renovation project, call Lancaster’s Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services Department at 661-723-6077.

Don’t you just love all this money being spent on things that are just fine. But Lancaster and Palmdale don’t have the money to fix our roads!!! They know how to raise gas tax and other taxes to line their pockets while our vehicles are constantly getting damaged by these roads. I live in Littlerock and I can’t even use Palmdale Blvd to get home because our city leaders don’t think they need too do something about the raging river crossing the road. In the past people have died trying to cross and still no action. I have to take Avenue T to get home and the big trucks have ruined the road it has pot holes big enough for my small car to fall into, I see car parts on the road as a result of hitting these pot holes. I was in kern county last weekend and their roads are great, maybe our city leaders could take a lesson from someone over there.

Spot on! This part of LA county is neglected over 30,000 live east of both 75th east Palmdale blvd and Ave T, let alone streets in the S and T tracks that have near 100% occupied residential frontage over a mile long each that remain unpaved, public works and the 5th district need to answer for this.

Wrecks and his puppets don’t care about us. They care about enriching their pockets and working only for the chosen few.

It doesn’t help when your mayor lives in Laguna and only cares for the interests of his donors who make money off the BLVD and no bid contracts. Businesses suffer on the BLVD, but the good old boys profit. We are losing another BLVD restaurant. How many have closed?
