LA County man sentenced to 15 1/2 years for part in heroin ring

by The AV Times Staff • August 30, 2023

A Los Angeles County man was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 30, to 15 1/2 years in federal prison for his role in a drug ring that distributed heroin to a 23-year-old man who died of an overdose.

Bradford Shepley, 38, was also ordered to serve six years of supervised release following his prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Shepley pleaded guilty in May to a federal charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin. Prosecutors recommended no more than 15 1/2 years in prison, a sentence which takes into consideration the defendant’s prior conviction for a felony drug offense, according to papers filed in Los Angeles federal court. Shepley’s role involved obtaining the heroin that was distributed to customers by two others.

On or about Nov. 4, 2017, a co-conspirator and a customer identified as K.S. exchanged text messages in which they used coded language to arrange for a pickup. The next day, Shepley provided heroin to the co-conspirator to sell to K.S., prosecutors said. A third member of the ring drove Shepley and the accomplice to the parking lot of a Target store to meet K.S. for the transaction. The buy was captured by the store’s security cameras, according to court papers.

After the heroin was sold to K.S., the money was handed over to Shepley, his plea agreement states. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said K.S. used the heroin that Shepley provided, and overdosed in his bedroom at his parent’s house. The medical examiner concluded that he died as a result of heroin intoxication.

Court records involving the co-conspirators were sealed and unavailable to the public.

Gee, where are all the usual RWNJs with their “no one goes to prison” complaints?

Tim you’re so ignorant. If you knew anything about this case, you would know that law enforcement had to take this case to federal prosecutors to prosecute him under federal law, because the LA County DA, Gascon refused to prosecute it. If Gascon had it his way, this guy would be free.

Sorry clown, but DAs were taking drug cases to the feds decades before Gascon came along. So crawl back down your own pie hole and go back into hiding.

Not true. The only cases that routinely went to the US Attorney were those involving a multi-agency federal task force. Local cases were routinely persecuted by the local DA office, until Gascon imposed his unconstitutional policies. Now law enforcement agencies around the county are seeking help from the feds to prosecute local cases that also violate federal laws. You can deny all you want. A quick search reveals pages of results confirming what I’m saying. Outspoken sheriffs and some police chiefs also have publicly stated the same. Go back to drinking your blue cool aid donkey.

LOL…There were 500 guys in the prison I was in who were there on drug charges. Almost all of them had been referred to the feds by local law enforcement specifically because federal law had harsher sentencing. At that time Gascon was an LAPD commander so claiming him being the DA is responsible for that is just you being you…the uninformed clown prince of unjustifiable outrage.

Time to crawl back down your piehole.

To further demonstrate your deliberate indifference to the truth, a superior court judge imposed an injunction against Gascon prohibiting him from ignoring the 3 strikes laws and numerous other requirements set forth by the legislature. Gascon argued that the separation of powers grants him prosecutorial discretion as an executive branch officer. But the state and US constitution expressly forbids any member of one branch to circumvent or usurp the authority of another branch. He must use discretion within the confines of the laws passed by the legislature. He is the very definition of a dictator who thinks he has the authority to rewrite the laws of the state by issuing his “policies” with the stroke of the pen. News flash…that’s not how our system of government works. This isn’t a European or South American country. We have a Constitution that jealously guards the separation of powers for the specific purpose of ensuring one bad actor never has enough power to override the other branches of government and enact tyranny. So Tim Scott, your lies and tainted logic are once again exposed.

LOL…when soundly defeated, change the subject. What a loser you are Mike.

Let’s just go back to your demonstrably false claim that turning drug cases over to the feds is some new thing developed because of Gascon. How’s that taste getting rammed back into your flapping piehole?

You know timmy, when you repeatedly call someone names as you so often do, like here now. It really proves you’re the ignorant one.
