Passenger killed, 5 injured in Highway 138 traffic crash

by The AV Times Staff • April 11, 2023 27 Comments

LANCASTER – A 75-year-old man died and five others were injured when a Jeep collided with a semi trailer Monday evening on State Route 138 in the Lancaster area, authorities said.

The collision happened around 5:35 p.m. Monday, April 10, on State Route 138 (Avenue D) at 110th Street West, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Jimmy Liu, 68, of Freemont, was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty northbound on 110 Street West when, “for reasons still under investigation,” the Jeep collided with a 2021 Peterbilt tractor that was traveling eastbound on State Route 138, the CHP report states.

Liu sustained major injuries in the crash, and his passenger, 75-year-old Ke Fu of Union City, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Other passengers in the Jeep were 72-year-old Hui Jie Shao, who sustained major injuries; 69-year-old Hui Jia Liu, who sustained moderate injuries; and a woman identified only as Jane Doe, who sustained major injuries, according to the CHP report.

The rig’s driver, 52-year-old Jorge Garcia Prieto of Cabazon, sustained moderate injuries in the crash, the CHP report states.

“Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision,” the CHP report states.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Investigating Officer Spann at the Antelope Valley area CHP Office at 661-948-8541 during business hours. After business hours, residents should contact the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3410.

Saw the skid marks the other day. Sadly, looks like the big truck didn’t have time to stop. The driver on the 138 had the right away. No idea what happened, maybe even looking at the flowers there, they are gorgeous. But sadly that road is one of the deadliest in the world. At one time, it was on the top 50 deadliest. Please be careful. My heart and symphathy goes out to the family and the driver’s and riders in all vehicles. Those who also saw it. Been in AV my entire life and don’t mess with the 138. That road has a nick name and story to it. They remove the crosses yearly.

My friend was in the car and passed away today. They were a beautiful group of hikers going to see the wildflowers. Please be kind as they are all wonderful, caring , amazing people. Such a hard loss and challenges ahead.

I am so devastated as well. She was my colleague and friend as well. She has taught me a lot over the recent years. I will miss her dearly.

You answered your own question. Not a news flash that Mike is what you said. He’s made that obvious too many times to keep count.

This is so sad for all involved. I was on my way home with this happened . I just moved to this area and the 138 is so scary to drive on. People speed ride bumpers and do not stop at stop signs. Perhaps the police can patrol this area more? Such a dangerous road.

110th West has stop signs with red lights there, 138 has no stop. So for one reason or another, whether not paying attention, medical issue, etc, the SUV must not have stopped, or stopped then proceeded into the intersection to collide with the truck. If the rig driver had moderate injuries, it had to be a high energy collision, because a semi can demolish an SUV without much harm to a rig driver.

Many people come to the A.V. and are deceived by the tranquility of the open desert landscape, open long straight roadways with no curves, a peaceful, easy, careless feeling . Then death hits you from the side, from the front from the back and next thing they know, there in heaven

      Mama:

My diagnosis is you have a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, along with a chronic psychosis and detachment from reality.

In addition, you’re a brainwashed troglodyte with the intellect of a tardigrade to suggest all evil is committed only by Trump supporters.
