PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s PGTV (Palmdale Government Television) Channel 27-produced “Courtney’s Playground Dedication” was recognized for Best Community Event Video as part of the 2023 ACM West WAVE Awards that took place Feb. 22-25, 2023. The Western Access Video Excellence (WAVE) is the annual awards program presented by the Western States Regional Conference and Trade Show for the Alliance for Community Media (ACM).

“We are truly honored and excited to see Palmdale selected for this award that featured our first fully inclusive park, Courtney’s Playground,” said Palmdale Mayor Laura Bettencourt. “Completing the park was a team effort involving Courtney Triana’s family, Parks and Recreation, and the Palmdale City Council. This award demonstrates our communication team’s ability to share this important local story with impact to a wide audience.”

The WAVE Awards recognize the most creative programs from the Western region that focus on community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television differently. Palmdale received nominations in two additional categories. “This is Our Shot, Palmdale!” was nominated for Best Video in Community Issues and “Prepare to Protect: Pandemic” for Best Public Service Announcement.

Founded in 1976, the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) represents over 3,000 Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media centers throughout the country. The ACM works to protect the interests of these access centers and those who use PEG facilities and equipment to advance their causes through cable television and the Internet. ACM supports and promotes community media and local cable programs distributed on PEG access cable television channels across the United States. The West Region affiliate represents community media centers and local governments throughout six western states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico.

Palmdale’s television programs are cablecast on PGTV Channel 27 on Spectrum Cable. Channel 27 original videos are available on the the city of Palmdale’s YouTube channel, CityofPalmdale.
