Man arrested after hit-and-run crash into Palmdale deputy’s SUV

by City News Service • February 20, 2023 9 Comments

PALMDALE – A man crashed his sedan into the back of a Palmdale sheriff’s deputy’s SUV early Monday morning and was arrested shortly after he ran away from the scene.

The hit-and-run crash occurred around 12:27 a.m. at Sixth Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, Palmdale sheriff’s Lt. Jeffrey Rhea told City News Service.

The deputy was moving slowly in his patrol SUV when the suspect crashed into the rear of the vehicle, Rhea said. The suspect’s car was badly damaged so he got out and ran away but was located and detained by deputies in the area.

“Both vehicles are pretty badly damaged,” Rhea said.

Paramedics took the deputy to a hospital to be examined and released, he said. The suspect was also taken to a hospital as part of the investigation to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the offender purposely crashed his car into the LASCD vehicle.

Doesn’t fit with a hit and run. If I have the opportunity to be ‘clearing my mirrors’ while my dashcam faithfully records a cop blatantly breaking the law to cause the accident I would not avoid them, and then sue the county, but turning it into a hit and run eliminates the possible benefits.

I was behind a guy one time in a left turn lane at an intersection where we did not have a stop. This cop sitting at the stop sign on our left blatantly pulled out at the first break in the oncoming traffic. We had the right of way, and I was SOOOO hoping the guy in front of me would just hit the cop, but he didn’t.

If a citizen was creeping along right there we would get a ticket for doing so because it could cause an accident. So it’s ok for a sheriff to do so because?

Because they write the tickets. They are law ENFORCERS, not law FOLLOWERS.

If you guys got your facts straight then you would know the deputy was slowing down to turn around to pull the suspect over for driving wrecklessly. Suspect then crashed causing his vehicle to do a 180 and then ran into the deputy. Maybe know the full story before you try and knock down the men and women out there risking their lives everyday. If there ever comes a time you keyboard warriors ever need police assistance, I hope you have someone else to call to help you since you think so fondly the police force.

Illegal criminal without a driver’s license, insurance or half a brain?? Nah, couldn’t be. Corrupt, demented Joe Biden told us so.

Cop doing something that you or I would almost certainly get a ticket for causes accident? Yeah, undoubtedly.

LOL…are you honestly trying to say that because you are not a felon you have never seen cops blatantly ignore traffic laws? Good grief man, police departments could save a bunch of money if they could special order cop cars and just leave out the entire turn signal system since none of them ever use it anyway.

Is there ANY reader here that is old enough to drive that wants to claim they have never seen a cop car violating traffic laws? Not when they have lights or siren on and are treated as an emergency vehicle, just when they are driving along. No signal for lane change or turns, ever. The only time that they aren’t speeding is when they are traveling so slowly as to present a hazard in traffic. Passing on the shoulder to get to a light, then juicing it across the intersection to but off the people that they passed.
