By the City of Lancaster
City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris (R) and the City Council have declared a state of emergency against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ plan for a mass movement of homeless individuals to the Antelope Valley.
This controversial plan has sparked widespread outrage and concern, and Lancaster is taking immediate action.
“I strongly oppose Mayor Bass’ plan to move the LA homeless population to a village in the Antelope Valley. This kind of inhumane and degrading treatment of individuals who are already struggling is unacceptable and must be stopped. How can you claim that your city is a sanctuary city while sending your own citizens away,” said Mayor Parris. “Instead of isolating and ostracizing people who are homeless, we should be providing them with the support and resources they need to get back on their feet. We must reject this cruel and misguided approach and work towards a more compassionate and effective solution to homelessness.”
“In Mayor Bass’ recent speech about her plan to curb the LA homeless problem, what she failed to mention is a relocation strategy, which wouldn’t adequately solve the issue and one that we stand firmly against,” said Mayor Parris.
In an LA Times article, Bass said, “There’s a big chunk of land in Palmdale and maybe we could create a village out there.”
Moving homeless individuals to Palmdale and the Antelope Valley will only serve to create new problems for the homeless community in these areas, such as a lack of affordable housing and adequate resources to properly address mental health and addiction issues. Lancaster City Council stated Tuesday night that instead of moving the homeless out of sight, Mayor Bass and the city should focus on providing them with the resources and support needed in their home communities.
“It’s a war we’re going to be engaged in with the City of Los Angeles to prevent this from happening. We’ve worked extremely hard to increase the quality of life for our residents. Mayor Bass’ plan to move the homeless to the Antelope Valley is irresponsible and inhumane,” said Mayor Parris. “Our community will not stand for this. These individuals should not be forced to leave their home communities against their will to an area that is already strained to provide services. The Antelope Valley’s health care system is already overextended and poor people in the Antelope Valley die years, sometimes decades, earlier than those living in Los Angeles.”
Creating a homeless village in the Antelope Valley will negatively impact the surrounding community.
A large homeless population in one area could lead to increased crime and safety concerns and potential damage to property values. This could be a major concern for residents and businesses in the area, and it’s an issue Lancaster has already been struggling to support with its existing unhoused population. There are also serious health concerns for the homeless population who would be moved from a climate ranging from 60-80 degrees annually to the high desert which experiences extreme weather highs and lows.
“Ask yourself, do you want this in your community?! Mayor Bass’ plan is a short-sighted and misguided attempt to solve a complex and challenging issue,” said Mayor Parris. “We must come together as a community and ensure that the city we built isn’t driven into the ground by this attempt to sweep their problem under the rug. She’s looking for an easy way out of a hard problem. Buckle up.”
Mayor Bass’ intended treatment of the homeless community in Los Angeles is chronically hypocritical, beginning with her swearing-in ceremony where she forced the homeless out to make way for Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit.
The Lancaster City Council has declared a state of emergency and is urging immediate action to halt Mayor Bass’ plan.
“We cannot stand by and watch as Mayor Bass and the City of Los Angeles push the homeless out of LA,” said Mayor Parris. “It is time to take action. We will not expose our community and the LA homeless population to this gross humanitarian crisis without a fight.”

The should have declared a state of emergency the day Wrecks was elected mayor. Millions of dollars squandered on stupid projects. Pockets of the good old boys lined. Lives destroyed. Crime. Hookers all over Sierra Highway.
What a long strange trip it’s been.
Typical Republican Thinking (useless) says
“Thoughts and prayers. Thoughts and prayers.”
I don’t pray but I tried it after hearing of the Texas shootings.
It was easy. It was like doing nothing at all just like the Republican response each time.
Try it. Thoughts and prayers. Who knew it could be so effortless?
Did you notice at the same council meeting the city council voted to abolish code enforcement? Go download council resolution 22-62 and see for yourself that it removed code enforcement! Some kind of social experiment or something.
Ray's PoPo says
Wrecks wants his private police force to handle things like that. That way he can harrass his political enemies or those who speak out against him. It’s been going on for years. Just ask D. Grejada.
Laguna Larry says
It’s day 10 of Wreck’s declaration of a state of emergency. We haven’t seen the homeless invasion that he spoke about, but we have seen crime, murders, and the uptick in gang activity in East Lancaster. Meanwhile in Laguna……………
Matt K. says
Never gonna happen!
1.) Homeless advocates in LA spoke out and told her this was a bad idea back in May. They hold the purse strings, not Karen Bass!
2.) The land is right under the flight path for aircraft at Plant 42 (federal property).
3.) The land is covered with Joshua trees, which have been declared an endangered species by the California State Assembly. No parcel with Joshua trees may be developed.
4.) The area is not zoned for housing and services. When you factor in numbers 1–3, it never will be.
If I May Interfere…There are multiple parcels of land in the cities including Palmdale, Lancaster, Quartz Hill, and outlying cities of The Antelope Valley..Building Tiny Home Communities w Self Sufficient Means W/Gardens,Solar Panels..etc.. Include Health/ School/Job-Career To Be Self Sufficient So Families and individuals Can Transition In their near future.. Build A Progressive Platform Not A Go Here Stuck Here Program..
Chanelle Scott says
I completely agree with you and we are working to make this happen. My concern is the clap back from our local government. there are currently 422 individuals who are unhoused in Lancaster alone and we desperately need permanent housing for ALL! Tiny homes are certainly the way to go with sustainable gardens and tools for self-sufficiency.
Tiny Tim says
God bless us, every one.
The Antelope Valley already has high crime, hospitals and healthcare facilities are full and wait times are ridiculous. We have more people than we can handle. I’ve lived here for 30 years and seen it go from a decent place to a “hell hole”. Restaurants and stores are closing, grocery stores have empty shelves (still). The roads need work and Bass wants to send homeless people here? Why not, they already bused 100’s of illegals here. I saw the buses. All I can say is it’s time to move.
Delta Dawn says
DC, if you move will you take Wrecks with you? Asking for a Valley.
Delta Dawn says
That’s the problem, DC. No one wants Wrecks but his core of Lancaster Baptist followers and those beholden to him financially keep voting him in. Will you reconsider taking him with you when you leave? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top?
Tim Scott says
LOL…did the buses you saw have big signs on them that said “bus loaded with illegals” or did you get on board and check IDs?
Pro Tip: if you are going to make up false claims, make them plausibly realistic.
You seem to be “a know it all” but you are wrong saying I am making false claims. Why would you even say that? You don’t know what I saw! The buses I saw in Littlerock were all white with no visible markings at all, same “government” buses I see on the news moving people from the Southern border. Next time I will take pictures for you non-believers.
PRO TIP: Know what you are talking about before you put your weak reply!
Tim Scott says
You are making a claim that is obviously false, and then you cry about being challenged. Now you have shifted to “OMG I saw a white bus!!!” Okay, great, that at least is plausible.
Now, do you understand the difference? A guy says “I saw a white bus.” Okay, cool. Unless you are color blind there is no reason to wonder how you knew it was white. There’s no reason to wonder if you know what a bus is. On the other hand, if you say the driver was a space alien in disguise the natural response is “wait, how does he know that?”
Now, take the lesson and move along. Do better next time.
You’re denying a village somewhere of its idiot. How can you determine that my claim is false?? Were you secretly there? I simply do not understand your diatribe regarding the color of the bus, that it was actually a bus….really?? Maybe you should get out of mommies basement. Who died and made you the moderator troll???
Tim Scott says
Okay, you still haven’t told me how you know it was a “bus full of illegals,” as you claimed. Why have you not answered that? Because there is no real answer, and everyone but you knows it. I didn’t have to be there to know that, no, the bus wasn’t flying an “illegals on board” sign. I didn’t have to be there to know that you didn’t pull the bus over and check IDs.
You made it up, and you got caught, and instead of manning up you are trying to bluster your way through.
Tim Scott says
By the way, if you have a village waiting for you somewhere don’t let me keep you. I’ve embarrassed you more than enough so you can go any time.
“Who made you moderator troll”
The owner of this site.
Tim Scott says
LOL…the first comment I made on this site was to call the owner a “social media maven with delusions of journalism.” The number of times I have been mistaken for part of the staff since that time continues to grow and is monumentally hilarious.
Tim Scott says
Oh, to be clear I have since changed my views and apologized for that, but I doubt it is forgiven and forgotten.
You’ve been forgivin that’s for sure.
Tim Scott says
Maybe I guess. There have been a pretty good number of people who have said they come here to read my comments, and clicks are money…so in that respect I would be good to have around. It would be interesting to see how site traffic tracks with my activity.
Wow, somebody is a little full of themselves.
I would say most are here to wait for the funny responses to you and that absolute spaz.. Williams comments.
I know I am.
Tim Scott says
You suggest that I’ve been forgiven. I say the only reason I can see why I might be. You say I am “full of myself.” Is this supposed to be one of those “funny responses to Tim” that you say people are looking for? I mean, the randomness and discontinuity is certainly laughable, but clownish attacks like that can be found pretty much anywhere on the internet so I can’t imagine people are here looking for them. Points for being a step above Tweedledum and Tweedledumber though. At least you said something that you haven’t said a hundred times before.

Where are they planning to build this village why don’t they use the land the own in Acton where they closed Acton rehab the county has owned that land for 70 years they also own land in Lake Hughes where they closed warm springs which they’ve owned for years
County has owned typo
Tim Scott says
While the whole “homeless invasion” is just the typical Wrecks made up nonsense, the city of Los Angeles does own probably twenty square miles “in” Palmdale…in that it is an ‘island’ of unincorporated county that is completely surrounded by Palmdale. If they wanted to, and there is no indication that they want to, but if they did, they could petition the county for zoning and proceed to build an entire city on that land and there would be nothing for Wrecks to do about it.
For reference, the city of Torrance is about twenty square miles and has a population of about 150,000.
shelli logan says
so if the Antelope Valley itself is just about 20 square miles then where is the 20 square miles LA County supposedly owns inside the City of Palmdale??? that is a brain teaser I can’t figure out!!! huh???
Tim Scott says
Where did you come up with “the Antelope Valley itself is just about 20 square miles”? That’s…waaaaaaay wrong.
They closed Acton Rehab? I did not know that.
LACo is sending the homeless to the place where the loudest gripes about homelessness are heard.
It’s their job to address problems where people are angry about them.
Pants on fire says
LACo isn’t sending the homeless to the AV. That is a false claim by Wrecks, Marv and their former sidekick D’Erico. They said 67 people a day were being sent from LA to Lancaster. Do the math. That’s 24,455 people a year. They’ve been saying that for years now. In three years that would be 73,365 homeless people in Lancaster. It may seem like there’s that many when you drive down the BLVD, Sierra Highway, off of G, and so on. But it’s not true. They’re lying. Imagine that.
shelli logan says
you may not have noticed but right after covid started during the years 2021 and 2020 the government supplied millions and millions of dollars to LA County to get the homeless off the streets and out of the desert and into facilities that organizations such as Valley Oasis run like hotels and motels all along sierra Highway and in Palmdale new facilities have been built for the homeless out near the veterans Center on I and 30th West new apartment complexes have gone up and are now housing at least 70% of the homeless population throughout 2020 and 2021 the deserts and the streets where all the homeless used to be are now housed and yes indeed many homeless have been sent here by la and you can find those people building huge Communitys themselves off at 10th Street East between M and L off of Challenger Way between H and G and then just off the freeway between G and F and 20th West those people have not been homed yet because they haven’t been made aware of these organizations that help house the homeless the cops don’t bother them even though there are many signs of for no trespassing and private property
Turnaround is fair play says
How about we put the homeless on buses and send them to Texas and Florida?
We’d do better with illegal immigrants here to work and let those 2 states have the homeless.
Thurgood Marshall says
We The People gotta get a hold onto governance again.
Representation is descending into fits violent inconsistency from inactivity/ineffectiveness to broad executive overreach.
Alito warned us, or did he just give the executives the last hint they needed?
E. Patterson says
This sounds like a political stunt. Rex has done very little for the city. Lancaster is already in shambles, instead of political jibber jabber, I’d like to see some action. How about cleaning up the city Rex???
Karen E Curry-Cole says
We all need to do our part we need to start somewhere reopen Acton rehab and warm springs rehab everything is already there and the county owns it
Sick and tired of Los Angeles and the state of California at large treating the Antelope Valley as its dumping ground for the people who they deem undesirable.
Fight like hell on this one Rex, please.
Tim Scott says
The only ‘undesirable’ that Wrecks Parris has ever successfully kept out of the Antelope Valley is his wife.
ATTACKING A RICH AND POWERFUL MAN’S WIFE LIKE YOU DID IS FOOLISH AND DANGEROUS…
AND STUPID TOO…
Tim Scott says
LOL…Ace I walked into Lancaster’s city hall and told some desk worker that I was there to complain about the megalomaniac mayor who is a despicable…” at this point I shifted to language that would trigger moderation here so I won’t continue the quote, but you get the drift. They documented my complaint, and I signed it. The focal point of my complaint was his wife being a poster child for anti 2nd amendment arguments when she responded to being caught with a gun at the airport in Burbank by openly saying that she really never kept track of where that loaded weapon was and had not realized it was in her purse.
So if you think I’m scared by the possibility of retribution from your old boss, think again. If his “top investigator,” you, never found me what makes you think he can?
“LOL…Ace I walked into Lancaster’s city hall and told some desk worker that I was there to complain about the megalomaniac mayor who is a despicable“
A day in the life of a lame with no life.
You would know, BeeEss…
Tim Scott says
I had some time to kill, and let’s face it, the BLVD is a pit.
Phyllis Migasi says
YEAH hopefully this guy dont retaliate
Annie Oakley says
Ace is right Tim. She packs heat too. Even tried to board a plane with her piece. Be careful.
“The only ‘undesirable’ that Wrecks Parris has ever successfully kept out of the Antelope Valley is his wife.”
I approve this message
Hope life is treating you well Tim
Did she have her concealed carry permit revoked after trying to board a plane with a gun? An honest mistake, of course. Lots of people carry guns in their purses without checking to see why it weighs so much. I often forget when I put my weapons.
Tim Scott says
No it wasn’t revoked…because it was already expired.
You think Rex cares? He lives in Laguna. He’s just looking for a scapegoat to cover up all his failures. If he would go out to the homeless camps around Lancaster, he’d see that the majority of them are locals. Rex is full of hot air.
Here’s a place to start.
What city helps the homeless the most? I Googled that question. It was really hard work.
Here are the best cities for homeless people in the US:
Houston, Texas. In less than 10 years, Houston has successfully reduced its homeless population by 55%. …
Austin, Texas. …
Salt Lake City, Utah. …
Berkeley, California. …
San Diego, California. …
New Orleans, Louisiana.
I guess our leaders in California could find out what works and start doing it. There might be other model cities that have been successful. Some of the above cities have solutions that may not work here. Skip them.
Finland has good solutions.
So, what is preventing our leaders from finding out what works and doing it? Any guesses?
If I recollect, a few years back. Rex Perris mentioned that He wouldn’t allow Palmdale/ Lancaster California to become another La squatters. No Regards or Remorse of the Homeless What So Ever!? Therefore pushing the Homeless back towards Kern County lines in the middle of the dessert! He is No Better than the Los Angeles Mayor.
How can a Mayor (Rex Perris), speak for Lancaster/Palmdale, when He Himself doesn’t reside in His Own City He runs, let alone avoiding the very problem He speaks ill of? Is this why, You moved to Malibu, Rex Perris? The City Of Lancaster/Palmdale isn’t/wasn’t Good enough for You, I suppose? >SMH<
What kind of crap is this ? Rex Parris Dose not live in the antelope Valley how can you be a mayor of a town when you do not even live there. He dose not care where the homeless go! Him being elected to office sounds like a political move. Relocateing the homeless to antalope valley is simply moving a problem to another place ! like we do troublesome animals . Dose Karen bass have her head up her butt ?
Very well said. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
The rents are so high, and rental restrictions like need to make 3x the rent amount a month. There are few that can actually do this. When you have child experiences on top of that with no child support, how can you afford anything? I’m a senior now but back in the early 90s I raised 3 boys on my own and I was homeless for a while. At that time there weren’t as many people as today, therefore programs had funds to help me up a bit. Today they dont exist. No money to help citizens, but special programs to help illegals. People who are not allowed legally. My taxes funded some of these programs. I’m not against helping them, but help the citizens of the community first. Our taxes eventually pays for it.
linda D stefanello says
I am with my Mayor Passis. Bass does not care about the less forunate People.
Bass only wants to dump the people. Bass does not want deal with the less fortunat People. Who gives Her the right. To treat people like that. Bass treats them like TRASH. They lose they dignity. Have to live on the streets. Winter is 18 degreed. Summer is 115 – 115 degrees. The people never lived in climate
Of change. How many
People will die.
Bass should take care of her mess. Let her live on the streets for
One week. That might change mine. Lucy Aball spend one week on the streets. She had compassion before living on the streets. Then Lucy. Gave more understanding. How it feels not to have a home.
I am happy. That our Mayor Parris cares about his people. They tried to dump the less fortune people. So Bass could close a blind eye.
She does not to spend the money
Just keep putting it in her pocket. When it’s not Bass money. But the people. It’s Bass”s job to take care of the people.
MAYOR Parris. He fourth once before. Won! He will do it again. Why! He cares about the people and the community. Thank God for Mayor Parris.
Julio Jimenez says
NOBODY TAKES CARE OF PALMDALE AND LANCASTER THE STREETS LOOKS LIKE GARBAGE DISPOSAL PROPERTYS AROUND THE MALL LOOKS LIKE DUMPS .
The pushing if the homeless is not the only thing being pushed to The Antelope Valley Due to unaffordable housing persons and families are forced to move to areas like The Antelope Valley For affordable housing which during this COVID Pandemic housing prices have actually increased..Instead of attacking others Just Build The Community Housing include Medical(Health-Physical&Mental) School, Job, Training and encompass All Aspects so Homeless or needy person/ families can learn how to grow out of these restrictions Utilize A Program that Everyone is assigned a responsibility to help fill in gaps And Instead of Saying we don’t want them here Accept Anyone In Need & help them become part of a Welcomed Community That Says We Will Help.. I disagree with the way LA wants to force homeless out But We Should Not Use our Fight To Do The Same As Them We Should Prepare for Adding New Members To Our Communities..We May Not Have The Means or Accomodations But We have the empty land space within our already made cities..We also Need to Utilize & Increase our Safety Personnel Because Let’s Face It This Is A problem already here & Crime is up but Personnel in place is not enough especially when it takes over 10 minutes for a 911 operator to answer(Calls Made from 3 different Phones)Along with 911 Operators giving Sarcasm or even negative remarks which put people’s lives at stake daily..The System Needs To Be Changed To Accommodate Everyone Which Includes The Safety To Every Being Here In The Antelope Valley..Yes we Need More JOBs To Accommodate But Isn’t This What’s Life Is All About Moving Forward.
That’s a good attitude
Fix the problem says
L.A. has always pushed their people into the antelope valley. If someone was being released from jail, those people were told if you don’t have any place to go. “We can give you a free metro ticket, because lancaster has a free place for you to stay”.
What needs to be done, is take a look at the unoccupied builds and transfer them into a place for people to stay, seek help and other resources. Help people to stand back on their own two feet again.
MALIKA JEFFERY says
Well I really hope this works for our city here in Lancaster CA and if granted the money I hope Rex Perris doesn’t pocket the money
Jamison Giraffe says
FIX THE STREETS CORRECTLY AND THEY WONT SPLIT APART AFTER A STORM OR FROM NORM TRAFFIC. THEN THE HOMELESS THEY BRING CAN USE THE NEW PAVEMENT TO WALK ON AND HOPEFULLY GET NAILED BY A DODGE CHARGER OR FORD MUSTANG GOING 95 IN A 50 MPH ZONE…
I’m homeless in Lancaster, Rex is doing the most good!! come check out the blvd, I trust his leadership.
I seriously question the veracity of this statement.
The homeless have no greater enemy that Mayor Parris.
shelli logan says
I agree John I have seen the work in progress for housing the homeless here including yes on the boulevard there are still quite a few that hang out at the park on Jackman because they are given meals in the senior center which is another good thing and then the huge facility they built out by the VA Hospital out on I and 30th another great thing and yes there are a lot of homeless being sent here from the LA area but it does take time but there isn’t as many homeless on the streets now as there were a year ago that’s for sure be safe out there John
Thank goodness, it’s about time! I live in the Antelope Valley, Lancaster. I’ve noticed way too many illegals and homeless arriving here.
I meant the state of emergency, thank goodness about time!
Tim Scott says
Have you checked the city charter to see what additional powers the mayor is granted when a state of emergency is declared? My guess is that there is something under the ‘state of emergency’ rules that gave Wrecks control of funds that he normally doesn’t have and with the covid emergency declarations expiring he came up with this just to keep that going.
Calling the kettle black says
But you don’t think Bass mouth is doing exactly the same thing you just described…
Tim Scott says
Dunno, don’t care. I think that almost everyone believes that the homeless situation in the city of LA constitutes an emergency. I think that everyone with sense would agree that blowing up one throwaway line from an interview into “the forces of evil are planning an invasion” is an absurd cheap dramatization. What do you think?
Speaks with forked tongue says
Rex is the king of bloviation. Everything is sensational to him. War on Gangs, War on Section 8, Monguls, homeless invasion. He is full of it. What he does is to ride the hype train to create panic so that people don’t see what he is really doing. Millions of tax dollars have been squandered since he took office and it won’t stop until he’s gone.
There is no homeless invasion. There is a homeless problem of which he has done nothing except to take a million dollars from the county for the shelter then shut the shelter down. Then he spent $31 million dollars on a no bid housing project that his donor built for a 120 bed facility, after rejecting to renovate the county building that would hold 700 beds.
If you believe anything he says, you will eventually be disappointed.
Follow the money says
Don’t you worry Malika Jeffery. Rex Perris will make sure all the money goes to its proper destinations, which are usually into the pockets of his no bid donors or pet projects like the Eye in the Sky.
Not yours says
When did R. Perris change the spelling of his name to Parris?
Patrick baker crawford says
This is a scary thing. To happen here in Lancaster. People are going to be afraid to leave there homes an walk freely down the streets.☹️. Not to mention the way it will make crime here far worse than what it already is.
AV Truth says
Wrecks want you to be afraid. So you will ignore what is already happening in Lancaster with rising crime, millions of dollars funneled to contributors on no bid contracts, poor roads, and everything else. Wrecks has been crying wolf for years about homeless being sent to Lancaster from LA. If he would leave his beach mansion in Laguna and go to the encampments off of H, he would find out that most of the people are local and could have been in the shelter if he didn’t close it.
You say “people are going to be …” people are already scared with the out of control and rampant crime rate in the AV. Decent medical care is non-existent already. There’s already a critical homeless situation here and the Mayor wants to ship more homeless here? This place is becoming a breeding ground for criminals and the homeless.
How Can You Tell He's Lying? His Lips Are Moving says
Patrick baker crawford, it’s not going to happen. Rex is trying to scare everyone and distract their attention from all his failurs with crime, businesses, lawsuits, bad roads.
It has always been Parris.
1. Does the L.A. City Mayor or government actually have the legal, unilateral authority over operations in other cities and unincorporated areas, to control and execute it’s agenda?
2. Does the L.A. County government have the legal, unilateral authority over
other cities and unincorporated areas, to control, and execute it’s agenda?
3. Does L.A. City exercise authority over the operations of L.A County government?
Tim Scott says
They own land. If they want to use that land in any particular way, like any other property owner they have to meet whatever zoning requirements are applied by the city or county. The land in question is in the county and outside the city limits, making Wrecks and his ranting completely irrelevant. It seems very unlikely that the county would turn down such an application from the city of LA, since it is actually building housing in an area that is zoned for housing, not the “dumping people in the barren desert” that Wrecks is pretending that it is. So while the answer to all of your questions there is technically “no,” none of them really address the actual situation.
Where are they planning to build
Tim Scott says
They aren’t. Wrecks is just over-reacting to stir the drama. But the city of LA does own the land that was intended to be the Palmdale regional airport. It runs from about 50th to 100th east between Ave M and Ave Q.
Follow the Money says
There are no plans to build a homeless campus in Palmdale. Rex is just stirring up fears among people about the homeless. He’s using them as a scapegoat. That’s an old trick used by corrupt leaders. It’s not his first time. Remember when he said residents should carry guns illegally and shoot the homeless if they thought they were robbing them? There was not a rash of homeless people robbing anyone. It was Rex making a scapegoat out of them so people would turn their attention away from his failures. People should be asking what happened to the million dollars the county gave Lancaster for the homeless shelter only to have Rex shut it down. Or why would Rex give a no bid contract to his political friend for a 140 bed housing facility that charges rent when he could have had a refurbished 700 bed facility that didn’t charge rent.
In Lancaster, you have to Follow the Money.
Bruce Bergdahl says
Very good questions. Here’s another: Does the mayor of LA City or the LA City Council have the legal authority to round up a segment of society, on the basis of their housing status, and forcibly relocate them (one could argue that this is also called kidnapping) to another community? People become homeless for many reasons, drugs may not have been the reason for losing their housing but life on the street will drive most of them into drug use. Anyone asking “why” has likely never spent a night on the street, or had to deal with the feelings of depression and uselessness and haven’t wanted to numb those feelings away. Hmmm, you know what makes a homeless LA citizen feel even more depressed and useless? How about boxing then up and shipping them off to the desert?!? Madame Mayor, do your job and find a compassionate solution to homeless human beings. The state is throwing money at it, your duty is to protect and serve the people of your city. Your nightmare of a plan does move of that, find solutions, if you don’t, you’ll just find the streets filled with homeless again! If you don’t feel that you are skilled enough to do the job, there is no shame in admitting that and stepping down. This plan was not part of your campaign strategy, why is that?
For context Mayor Bass has never said she was moving homeless people to Lancaster.
Who cares how Reax spells his name.
Just think how proud Mayor Bass will be when she just removes all the trash from City of LA and dumps it all off up here and she will say she solved the problem when all she did was relocate it.
Then the idiots in LA will vote her in for more terms as Mayor
J. Gilly says
The should have declared a State of Emergency in Lancaster in 2008 when the current mayor was elected. It’s been downhill ever since.
Yolanda Corniffe says
I have a really good idea how to reduce homelessness in the AntelopeValley I will write To the mayor I am a founder of a nonprofit organization here in the city of Lancaster’ For 3 years now I have been trying to Express How to reduce homelessness here in the city of Lancaster’ If I can get my voice heard am I planned Seen I can guarantee you there will be no homelessness here In the antelope Valley
shelli logan says
seems to me if you’ve been trying to get your voice heard for over 3 years now that you would have found out that they do hold city council meeting at the city hall a couple times a month why haven’t you gone there???
Creative Global Designs says
So, I actually agree with our major and city manager here in Lancaster and yes where is major Bauhaus (so?). The Antelope has enough room to elevate and solve it’s own homelessness issues. These garbage demoncrats need to have their aces chopped and handed to them on a silver platter for all I care for. Did everyone catch “sanctuary cities”. That means all types of homeless folks, like illegal immigrants from anywhere, not just South America, Latin America. This state has been going into a pit for years, so if we love this bs, then this is what it will be like. We have the capability to not have to develop project like housing, there are plenty of ways to elevate the standard of housing options like; mobile homes, nicer apartment complexes, even do something similar to what the Seasons folks did in W Lancaster. Those houses for lease starting at $2750, craziness, there needs to be a removal of some major housing barrier’s first. I am facing an upward battle trying to get into something affordable and everybody knows that rentals have skyrocketed out of control. So, anyhow, I believe we have enough intelligent citizens who could be a part of the solutions we are in desperate need of right and for about the next 100 years for this state to be “Holden” again.
Mr Perris is very passionate about his beach mansion in Laguna. He loves it there which is why he lives there.
Rex's Biggest Fan says
What if a busload of homeless people were sent to Laguna Beach? I’m sure the accommodations are much nicer than Lancaster. Ask Rex.
Jerry T says
This isn’t a red or blue issue, as neither have done anything impactful to solving the rising homelessness, immigration, drugs or increasing crime problems.
That’s right…neither are qualified. No political candidate has any experience at solving either topic. So why act surprised when they disappoint?
How can anyone who thinks homelessness is a housing issue begin to solve the underlying drug & mental illness problem(thanks Reagan). Paying a million dollars a unit per qualified homeless candidate is not just the biggest waste of money, but solid evidence of civic waste and misuse of public funds, together with an obvious lack of being able to understand the growing problem.
Think again Karen Bass…you will be the shortest-term mayor in LA history.
Reagan hasn’t been governor since 1975. That’s over 45 years ago. Since then, there have been 7 different governors, each of who could have dealt with the “underlying drug & mental illness problem” that you correctly address. The homeless problem has really exploded over the past 10 years. Reagan had his issues, but to blame him for this is comical. Unfortunately, the candidate that has a halfway decent plan to address it lost. Bass is clueless.
For all of the reasons stated in this article and from comments pertaining to it, let’s fix the homeless situation in the AV before inviting more in. What Karen Bass is seeing in the city of Los has been going on in the AV also. So Rex Parris. It’s on you, so what you gonna do. STATE OF EMERGENCY!?
Where is our Palmdale Mayor in all of this?
Benedict Arnold says
Palmdale mayor has been AWOL and sitting in the corner with a pouty face ever since his council dumped him. He was such a piss poor leader that his entire council wanted him gone. Now he can make the people on the hospital board crazy. Good riddance.
Are you speaking of the fat old guy that ran for Mayor as a “fire fighter”?
I never understood what qualified a fire fighter to be mayor
Freddy Fraud says
He was not a real fire fighter and not much good as a mayor. He was employed by the fire department and ‘retired’. Then he sucked up to Rex and was used to remove Ledford. Once that was accomplished, Rex threw him to the curb, but not before he delivered what Rex wanted.
Shirley Eugest says
Or a pilot to be a congressman. What is this…Airplane!
Thomas Murray says
May you may at sum of the palasee of Trump it worked.
Thomas Murray – what you wrtote makes no sense… What were you trying to say???
Tony Loa says
Mayor Hufblower is now a expert on health care and will infect the AV Hospital Board with his infinite wisdom that only a
“Know it all” can bring. Fragile ego and a need for recognition require handling with care or he will pout and get negative to those in close contact.
you can not suport our own people, but you suport all immigrants double….
Learn to share equaly…
He’s out to lunch !
Fake Fireman says
Palmdale mayor is telling anyone who will listen how great he is and how he is the one who has done everything good in Palmdale for decades. What he isn’t telling them is that on his watch over $7 million dollars went from Palmdale to Lancaster for their projects, and that there are millions of dollars in lawsuits by employees due to his incompetent leadership.
Merv Crust says
Palmdale mayor is AWOL. Which is probably a good thing for the people of Palmdale. He caused enough damage.
This is legitimate question. What damage has he caused?
Tim Scott says
That is a legitimate question. During his term Palmdale entered a number of “joint ventures” with Lancaster…all of which benefited Lancaster at Palmdale’s expense. That isn’t “all his fault,” since he was far from the only council member voting for these gifts to the neighbors. In fact in most cases even if he had voted against them the rest of the collaborators would have carried the measure anyway, but still.
po po says
what damage did hoffbower cause? let me count the ways. $7 million palmdale tax dollars being sent to lancaster for events and projects that could and should be in palmdale. epic power scam. lawsuits with the city manager he hired. lawsuits with employees under his watch. disorganized meetings that he is in charge of. lost the trust and confidence of his own councilmen so much so that they voted to remove the mayor position, that would have never happened under lefford. no ideas and no vision.
Tim Scott and po po.
Thank you for listing the ways.
The City of Palmdale is going to a rotating mayor. We will know who gets elected some time in the beginning of the year. With this each of the council members will serve as mayor. They added another seat for council, 5 in all. This means Hofbauer is not the mayor anymore.
Does anyone know anyone who ever voted for Hofbauer?
What are they like?
Will they admit it?
I’m fat, I’m white, and I didn’t vote for the idiot fire fighter.
I’m not in that club
This can not happen, absolutely not!
The strong says
If the mayor is a Democrat. That would answer your question!
Tim Scott says
LOL…so this statement clearly answers any question there might be regarding whether you have ANY clue about local politics. Get some knowledge before you make yourself look even sillier.
Calling the kettle black says
I don’t agree,
Years of Democratic rule, policies and directives from democrats is the reason we have an out of control homelessness problem.
Put them on your doorstep is my solution.
Tim Scott says
LOL…what does your post here have to do with the previous exchange?
Do YOU think that someone who starts their post with “if the mayor is a democrat…” has any clue about local politics? I can tell you with absolute certainty that there has NEVER been a mayor of Palmdale who was a democrat…not…one…ever. I’m less certain about this, but I am pretty sure that Juan Carrillo was the first “democrat” ever elected to the city council, and he is really more a member of the “paid for by Wrecks” party.
No ti doesn’t because there are plenty of roeresrntives on both sides that suck royally. One is not better than the other. Representatives from both parties have f’d up everything.
They (politicans) don’t deserve all the “credit”.
Who voted for them? They are the problem and always have been the problem.
Yet they somehow mostly remain anonymous so they can do it again.
The City of Palmdale is going to a rotating mayor. We will know who gets elected some time in the beginning of the year. With this each of the council members will serve as mayor. They added another seat for council, 5 in all. This means Hofbauer is not the mayor anymore
You’d think Hof would go away in shame. But, when you are shameless, that never happens.
Rich Suiteo says
Never liked her or her Cheshire cat smile pasted on her face from the start. I always felt that damn smile was hiding something and now we are starting to see what it is. The AV has been a dumping ground for LA for decades, sending us child molesters, hardened criminals and druggies to get rid of their problems! Hey Bass……………how about dumping the problem in YOUR neighborhood?
We already get all their child molesters , this crap has to stop there are plenty of open spaces in sylmar and surrounding areas and so there is no reason to send them up here for us to deal with the way I see it is we already have enough problems as it is with homeless
As soon as these LA homeless arrive in the AV they should be put on the Metro-train & returned to Ms. Bass’ front yard.
SOCIALISM. That’s all it is. Don’t fix the problems, just let them get so big until only the government can step in and fix them. And how do they fix it, they take from the middle class, give to the poor, the middle class gets poorer until there is no more middle class. Then there’s only the rich and the poor. The government won’t take from the rich because that’s the hand that feeds them. The rich and the government stay rich and the poor stay poor.
Just another democratic, not qualified for their position
Once again, this is Wrecks deflecting attention from his failures as mayor. Crime, poor roads, no bid contracts, lies, boondoggles and an out of control homeless problem that he does nothing with. After getting a million dollars from the County for the homeless shelter, he closes it. Then instead of opening a 700 bed shelter that could provide service for 1,400 people, he gives a no bid contract to his pal for a 140 bed facility that charges rent.
He has claimed that 67 homeless people a day were being sent to Lancaster from LA. That is absurd. In one year, it would be over 24,000 people.
Bass can talk all she wants about opening a camp for homeless on land the city of LA owns in Palmdale, but there is this tricky issue of zoning and permits that she is powerless on.
Once again, this is Wrecks being Wrecks and deflecting attention from his failures as mayor. He should just resign and stay in Laguna where he really lives.
Tired of politicians… says
She was voted to govern the city, not the county. The citizens of the AV did not elect her. She should not be able to take problems from her governing jurisdiction and push them off on county jurisdiction. The county, and local governments, will incur more of the expenses. The AV is the red-headed stepchild of the county. They don’t care what happens to the AV—out of sight, out of mind. Barger won’t be able to protect us from the other 4, esp. the three leftist.
Mitch Kraft says
Not including the 4 Million Illegal Aliens Biden has let come through since he has been in office the past 2 years!
Biden has opened the gates to anyone that wants to walk through including criminal’s from other country’s I just saw the news last night these people are just lining up to come over like lining up for a carnival ride, there is no hiding or running or sneaking over, why build a wall when Biden has sent the invitation to all. the water, food and housing shortages will only get worse. The AV can’t maintain itself now, where do our elected officials think all these things are going to come from as the population is increased?
Well I guess you can thank your forefathers who welcomed immigrants. Read the statue of liberty. The ex was collecting money for that wall & his cronies as well as taking money from the defense but funny thing where is that wall? Let’s not forget “immigration reform” never seems to happen
YOUVE BEEN SOENDING ALL YOUR TIME WITH FOX ENTERTSINMENT.
It’s cute you think a wall has been keeping anyone out. The walll was just a cash grab for those involved in building it. It’s a ruse on the American public. Our hard earned taxes we’re paying for something that’s just a placebo.
Just reminding that Fox News isn’t a news channel even though it’s in the title. It’s listed as entertainment. So when you say you were watching the news, please keep it real. You were watching something else.
Why can’t any of you morons stay on topic, pathetic and typical
RUBEN TORRES says
Because it’s a free forum…lol
They aren’t homeless
They are in hotels
Could’nt Agree More !
Karen Bass’s homeless solution – “Out of Sight-Out of mind!”
Moving the Homeless from Los Angeles to the Antelope Valley does not solve the problem Mayor Bass. It just hides it from you. The weather here is either to hot or too cold for people to live outside. We already have a large homeless population we are dealing with. Along with that crime has spiked. No to your plan Mayor Bass!
We have enough crime and gangsters who brought themselves out here from LA. This would further destroy the AV. She sees us as a slum to dump people in. They have done this in the high desert already if you talk to many homeless here already. We have a lot of homeless here already. They should fix their problem in their own area and not transport them elsewhere. Just as we should fix our problem here.
Ever since Catholic Charities stopped running the then Lancaster homeless shelter on Yucca St (now a community center), things have gone downhill. The city turned running the shelter to Mr. Baker and Grace Resources. They did well despite not having the funding necessary to do the job. Then, the city wasn’t interested and the shelter was closed and Parris put up the complex by the vets home , supposingly, for the homeless. To be admitted to it, you have to be screened. I guess that leaves 99% of the homeless still on the sidewalk and out in the desert. And then the city wanted to build a homeless shelter away from downtown Lancaster and tax the homeowners. That failed. Now, wait to Bass sends thousands up here and the fun will really begin!
OUR MEDIA HID TWO IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT KAREN BASS…
1. SHE IS A FOR REAL CASTRO LOVING COMMUNIST…
2. SHE IS AN OPEN AND MILITANT LESBIAN…
WHAT SHE MEANS BY A VILLAGE IS CALLED A CONCENTRATION CAMP…
REPLETE WITH LOTS OF CRUEL RAZOR WIRE AND GUARD TOWERS…
WITH SEARCH LIGHTS SWEEPING THE GROUNDS AT NIGHT…
THE COMMUNISTS HAVE MOST COMMONLY CALLED THEM RE-EDUCATION CENTERS…
BASS WANTS TO RE-EDUCATE THE HOMELESS…
SORRY – I AM NOT BUYING IT…
HOW ABOUT YOU..?
George M says
It doesn’t seem like an unsolvable problem when you do the math.. The entire county needs to pitch in and help. There are approximately 40k homeless persons and there are 88 cities in Los Angeles County. If split evenly, each city would be responsible for housing appropriately 454 persons apiece. I’m not a politician, but to me, those numbers seem to be pretty manageable. Get everyone onboard and let’s solve this problem once and for all. Maybe the village could be used as a processing or pre-settlement area of some kind. Idk. But with every city invested to do its part, we can be successful.
At least you are trying to find a fix,
Better yet, take 454 bleeding heart liberals in each city and they can open their homes for the homeless.
RUBEN TORRES says
I like the idea, but not every city might not have the revenue to handle this. Just saying
You first says
OK I agree but you can be the first to let the homeless come live at your property around your family. Not all homeless are criminals or mentally challenged but is that the risk you are willing to take with your family. Also you didn’t include all the illegals coming in everyday you have to feed them too and house them, offer medical care and support
Anyone who can and is brave enough to be homeless is insane and mentally ill, try walking around at night, a mentally sane person will figure out how to pay for cheap spare room somewhere and not live in the open. People are unbelievable, always treating irresponsible people with kids glove. Where are the immediate family members of the homeless, if the cops mistakenly mishandles them while arresting them, “family” will with the help of attorneys file law suits. Where are those people now, they need to step up but oh l forgot these are grown people AKA adults. Sorry there is no end to human nature the show must go on.
Amen to that! The family always comes out of the woodwork when they get disrespected by the police & there’s a lawsuit money to be had but in the homeless time of need, family is nowhere to be found. Hmmmmm…
Scott W. says
Right on Geoge ,
I like your ideas this can be solved easily all these politicians don’t even have a clue to fix this sad problem for homeless people have you ever thought about running for office George ? I’d vote for you ..thanks for your idea maybe someone will read it and figure it out
This is the best comment I’ve read so far, and completely agree. I live in Los Angeles but I’ve been planning to move out that way for some time now. But I’m trying to leave LA but if the government is just gonna dump all the homeless population in one place the city is gonna be horrible.
LoL, you think prominent cities where rich people live are going to allow 454 homeless people with drug habits and mental health issues live there?!
No way keep them away from Lancaster palmadale
Julie Brown says
OMG ! Are you serious. We already have an enormous number of homeless people out here in the antelope valley. We don’t need their homeless people coming out here it would be overwhelming, You’re living on the streets You’re living off sides of the freeway under the underpasses there’s just no more room and frankly we’re sick and tired of it. We work hard for what we have and we take care of our own but should bring more in from outside forget it !!!!!
Tim Scott says
She’s talking about BUILDING a shelter on city owned land. The only one pretending that this is about “dumping the homeless in the desert” is Wrecks, who has proven many times to be a lying sack of human waste. The city of LA doesn’t own a piece of land IN the city of LA big enough to build a garage for a matchbox car, so it does make sense that they would look at their property portfolio for large parcels they could use.
Instead of acting the fool like Wrecks it would be great if Palmdale negotiated terms with LA City to say “we approve the building, you pay for it, and our own homeless get priority on X amount of the spaces and services created.” Of course the current council would never offend Wrecks by pointing out what a clown he is, so that won’t happen.
Kanisha B. says
She don’t care about the homeless rate (as long as it’s not in her city), they will come out here and either die from the extreme weather conditions we have or hurt / kill innocent people.. We have too much going on out here as it is without her adding to it!!!
It’s cool that Rex is speaking up BUT he needs to do MORE for us – fixing the streets and parks is cool but What about housing?? Adorable Housing for us!! STOP allowing all of these out of state developers to buy up “OUR” land / property!!!
In order to get better as a community we have to do better!!! Mr. Rex Parris stop letting us down
I don’t agree with Mayor Bass. She’s only taking these people (fellow human beings)! They’re circumstances aren’t going to change just because of a geographical change.
But she of course will not have to see them anymore!!! Also we here in the AV have enough of our own problems. Example, took a friend to the new Michael Antonofivch court house today right there in plain sight was a used needle !!!
After that went to another location for other business and low and behold what do I spy ? Right next to my car was a dirty filthy baby diaper (poopy) .
I really feel that with the tax monies they collect there should be a much better quality of life for us here in the AV without bringing in more of someone else’s problems. We all need to help one another but fair is fair.
THE MAYOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS AFTER ALL THATS WHAT SHE WAS HIRED FOR.
Kanisha, he’s not speaking up for us. He’s deflecting attention from his failures. Bass can’t just open up a homeless camp because she wants to. Lancaster and Palmdale have zoning restrictions. It would have to go through a lot of hoops. Not going to happen. Rex is just looking for a scapegoat. It’s an age old trick used by poor leaders.
He’s not speaking up. He’s deflecting attention from his failures. He knows she can’t just build a homeless facility wherever she wants. It would have to be approved by the planning commissions in Lancaster and Palmdale. He would not let that happen. He’s using this an an opportunity to turn people’s attention away from the mess he has created.
Thats the God’s truth!
Tim Scott says
The land that the city of LA owns is in the county. The planning commissions of Lancaster and Palmdale have nothing to do with it, and neither does Wrecks’ and his tantrums.
That said, the thing for Palmdale to do here is partner with the city of LA in a project that LA is going to do anyway so that it benefits our local homeless citizens also. Unlike Lancaster, Palmdale has a good track record for turning affordable housing FUNDS into actual affordable housing and would make a good partner. LA, being LA, can throw in more funding than Palmdale could ever dream of getting on their own, and already owns the dirt. Good for all concerned.
It doesn’t matter who owns the land. You can’t just build a housing development anywhere. Good luck in Bass building a homeless shelter next to Plant 42. No land for housing there.
Living desert says
I think they should go east to Palm Springs/Palm Desert where all you snooty liberal elite fux dwell.
I mean you can’t forget the reaction of that same class of people when Texas and Florida was putting immigrants right on their doorsteps in DC and Martha’s Vineyard.
Liberal democrats and their policies and directives are the problem people. Wake up!
Bass is a NIMBY politician…I can’t believe people didn’t see that. AV has their own problems with dumping, graffiti, violence and people that just don’t even care about their own backyards, literally. I have a great property but 2 doors down is a huge hoarder. We need to take care and eradicate the crap we have here before we allow anyone to just decide they want to use our cities as their own personal homeless dumping ground.
JUST WAIT UNTIL ALL THE NEW PREVIOUSLY HOMELESS, METH ZOMBIES AND THE BUG NUTZ CRAZIES…
START CLOGGING AND YELLING AT THE LANCASTER CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS…
PASSING OUT ON THE BUS STOPS…
CRAPPING ALL OVER EVERYTHING…
IT’S ALREADY LIKE THAT NOW IN LANCASTER, CA…
THE ONLY BRIGHT SPOT IS THE COUNCIL MEETINGS WILL BE TELEVISED…
I SURE WISH I COULD TUNE IN TO SEE IT…
Don’t we already have a large number of homeless here?? committing crime, dedicating all over the valley.. can we really afford to stand by and watch LA dump more of their homeless population out here……Perris needs to get to work and all citizens, not allow it!!!!
Mike .w. says
Just like when the Olympics were in LA years ago Thay moved ALL OF THE TRASH UP TO THE AV, And Will TRY TO USE THE AV AS A DUMPING GROUND AGAIN, MORE REASON TO LEAVE CALIFORNIA.
Yeah just put them on the metro link and ship them to a relocation center! Didn’t they put all the undesirables on trains and ship them to camps back in 1940’s over inEurope?
Wouldn’t you petition Los Angeles city meetings to encourage the LA mayor to stop, the Lancaster mayor is already aware as this article states so we would need to petition the people whose plan this is to take responsibility for their homeless people instead of ripping them out of their communities to make themselves look better. Left or right I don’t care, people shouldn’t be ripped out of their communities because they are experiencing homelessness they are people too, not cattle or chess pieces in her game to look like a great mayor.
We lived near a homeless encampment in the city of West Los Angeles Mar Vista specifically the reason we sold our house of 38 years was to get away from all the crap that there was existing all around us adult son attack twice. Honestly everybody here is complaining about how bad it is here already and it’s just a drop in the bucket compared to what we lived around and saw in West Los Angeles please don’t send them here
Tamara Taylor says
I wish Mr Parris had the same passion for stopping the rising crime and murder in his own City.
Tim Scott says
His own city? You mean Laguna?
Very well said. We fight back and stand strong as a community.
A few days in and already making things worse for people.
We can start with the empty field near your home, sound good to you?
Why does cali keep
Voting in these moron libs into office? Perfect example how they continue to destroy cali. Billions have been raised with additional taxes and the problem has gotten worse. How dare mayor bass even suggest shipping them here. She’s worthless!!!
The strong says
Anytime. Can used them as target practice.
