Newsom joins Oregon, Washington in pact to ensure abortion access

by City News Service • June 24, 2022

Gov. Gavin Newsom joined his counterparts from Oregon and Washington Friday to proclaim the states as save havens for women seeking reproductive health care following the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of federal abortion protections under Roe v. Wade.

“California has banded together with Oregon and Washington to stand up for women, and to protect access to reproductive health care,” Newsom said in a statement. “We will not sit on the sidelines and allow patients who seek reproductive care in our states or the doctors that provide that care to be intimidated with criminal prosecution. We refuse to go back and we will fight like hell to protect our rights and our values.”

Newsom, along with Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, issued a Multi-State Commitment to defending access to abortion, contraceptives and other reproductive health care, and to protecting doctors and patients “against efforts by other states to export their abortion bans to our states.”

“The Supreme Court has made it clear — they want to strip women of their liberty and let Republican states replace it with mandated birth because the right to choose an abortion is not `deeply rooted in history,”‘ Newsom said. “They want to turn back the clock to a time when women had no right to make decisions about their own bodies, when women had to seek care in the shadows and at great danger, when women were not treated as equal citizens under the law. This is another devastating step toward erasing the rights and liberties Americans have fought for on battlefields, in courthouses and in capitols.”

In a statement of her own, Brown said, “You cannot ban abortion, you can only ban safe abortions.”

“And this disgraceful Supreme Court decision will undoubtedly put many people’s lives at risk, in addition to stripping away a constitutional right that disproportionately affects women and has been settled law for most of our lifetimes,” Brown said.

Inslee added, “The right of choice should not depend on which party holds the majority, but that’s where we find ourselves. More than half the nation’s population now lacks safe access to a medical procedure that only a patient and their doctor can and should make for themselves. Instead, law enforcement, vigilantes and judicial systems can force patients to bear the burdens of forced pregnancy and birth.”

Nobody seems to consider using me lately. Are the instructions on the wrappers difficult to read? Am I pricier than abortions? Sure, I sometimes tend to break at the worst (or best) time of the moment, but hell, I wasn’t made with a built-in ejector seat. What does the Captain tell his soldiers when a mission goes fubar? “Pull Out!”

I saw a picket sign that a woman was holding that read, “If abortion is murder, then masterbation is genecide.” Perhaps the law makers should take a couple steps back and reflect on their adolescence before going forward with legislation.

It’s good to see that the LEFT finally knows what a ”Woman” is!! Gavin Newsom’s proposal to make CA a ”Sanctuary Abortion State” comes at a COST to all of us.. Gavin stated that ”ALL ABORTIONS ARE FREE” to those wanting one. That will ”attract” a lot of people from other states to come & let the ”CALIFORNIA TAX PAYERS” pay for it. Under the ”Hyde Amendment”, abortions can not be paid with Taxpayer money. IMHO, this is ”undermining” Federal Law & it may wind up in Court too. Whether you agree with the SCOTUS decision, Abortion is not taken away, it comes back to the States so their Citizens have a ”Voice” & can vote for or against it. CA hasn’t changed anything relating to Abortion, period!

The Hyde amendment is about federal funds scarecrow. Try getting some facts before your next hate screed red herring post.

All your hype aside, it is true that there is likely to be some additional expense to taxpayers to support this nation’s women when the federal government has relinquished it’s duties to their health and well-being.

Unfortunately, consciences rarely come without expense.

        Costs will be offset.

Previous history clearly shows that the state by state abortion bans approach has harsh economic impacts on the states with bans. With the current labor shortage those impacts will be even worse, while we benefit from having the labor shortage at least partially, if not completely, resolved. Fly over states will be pushed even further behind economically due to their own actions, and of course they will then whine about how unfair it is.

…and blame everyone but themselves, of course!

I mean, why actually look at a problem and seek a real solution when you can just blame them damned Democrats for everything – especially when it ain’t the Democrats’ fault.

“Well, Putin said he didn’t do it, and since I have the attention span of a gnat I don’t read the intelligence briefings so I have no reason to not believe him and won’t be imposing any sanctions.” – Donald Trump

            Here you disingenuousness lop,
            From a CNBC article.

            ‘Toughest on Russia’

“Trump has frequently described himself as heavy-handed on Russia, saying in April, “probably nobody’s been tougher on Russia than Donald Trump,” and often arguing that the Russians didn’t want him to win the presidency for that reason.

Indeed, some of the toughest sanctions in years have fallen on Russia’s elite under the Trump administration. Sanctions imposed over Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 have not been lifted, Trump approved the sale of lethal weapons to Ukraine — something Barack Obama did not do — and he has ordered missiles fired at Syrian military sites, openly targeting strategic operations and allies of Russia”

I remember when the lops under the Obama administration sent Ukraine blankets….

Lol, and now you guys are back in power you gave Putin back his oil pipeline that was frozen under the trump administration.

Alright, BeeEss, let’s see what ya got, here…

In your opinion (yes, I said opinion, so feel free to go off the rails, if you want), what is Communism and how is it different, or the same, as Socialism?

Here’s your chance, BeeEss, your opinion on this?

      • Beecee says

        June 26, 2022 at 11:48 am

The main difference is that under communism, most property and economic resources are owned and controlled by the state (rather than individual citizens); under socialism, all citizens share equally in economic resources as allocated by a democratically-elected government.

Let’s just cut the BS and call your ilk Marxists. Do you disagree with that.

While this is commendable, the GOP has already set their sights on legislating a federal ban on reproductive health care.
