Driver killed, four injured in head-on collision in Palmdale

by The AV Times Staff • March 28, 2022 14 Comments

PALMDALE – A driver was killed Sunday morning when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle, injuring four people, authorities said.

The two-vehicle collision happened around 11:20 a.m. Sunday, March 27, on 50th Street East, just north of Avenue N, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The driver — a 27-year-old Lancaster man — was in a 2004 Volvo traveling northbound on 50th Street East when, “for unknown reasons,” his vehicle traveled into the southbound lane, directly in the path of a 2005 Dodge, the CHP report states. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

There were four occupants in the Dodge who were all transported to area hospitals. The 23-year-old Lancaster man driving the Dodge was taken by paramedics to Antelope Valley Medical Center with major injuries; while a 23-year-old woman with minor injuries, a 4-year-old boy and an infant girl, all from Palmdale, were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, according to the CHP report. The extent of the children’s injuries was not disclosed.

“The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs is unknown at this time and is still under investigation,” the CHP report states.

Anyone with information about this crash is encouraged to contact Officer S. Spann, ID 20244, at the CHP Antelope Valley Area office at 661-948-8541.

You drive on 50th to save 30 minutes. It is a gamble. 50% chance you will not get home.

Well, if it was a fifty fifty chance there would be several thousand dead every day, so…no.

Fiftieth is certainly not up to standards for the traffic volume. Unfortunately our representative to the county is too busy grandstanding about nonsense to ever consider trying to get any sort of improvements done. Particularly since her power base of support in Lancaster would rather there was no connection at all from Northrop to Palmdale.

Very sad what is going on up here and other places , no regards for anyone else .. this must stop . i do not know how but 4 innocent people are very injured , nd the person who caused it weather drugs or drinks etc , still they were doing something , not paying attention . this should not be happening . if whoever causes these accidents and if there in the wrong , needs to serve a long time in jail , maybe someone will wake up ,, Remember next time it could be one of us ,,

    Come on people pay attention!

There’s a few roads that are just to dangerous to drive on,, and 50th East is one of them.

Yeah, pretty much avoid the rural roads around Palmdale and Lancaster whenever possible. I’ve seen some downright reckless driving on 50th east, especially during rush hour. I just avoid it nowadays.

I’m going to bet drivers being distracted by their phones kill more people than DUI drivers.

I believe we need stiffer penalties for the offense.

disabling cell phones in vehicles would prevent someone from calling for help when kidnapped by a bank robber
