All you need to know about bay windows and their installation

by Content Partner • February 11, 2022

Extraordinary architectural solutions are designed to diversify the appearance of the building. One of them is a bay window — a protruding part of the building that occupies several floors. For installation of such windows, standard configurations are not suitable, therefore, appropriate bay window profiles are used. They will improve the natural lighting of the room, create an amazing panorama, and will also become an excellent decoration for both the interior and exterior.

Bay Windows Features

Before the bay window installation, it is important to understand the design features of the windows. Usually, they consist of four components:

  • Profile system: Aluminum windows are famous for their durability and classic design. If the customer has enough funds, then nothing prevents them from acquiring wooden windows made of oak or larch. A more budgetary alternative is a pine or metal-plastic profile.
  • Light-transmitting part: Double-glazed windows are more reliable in this regard. They make it possible to reduce costs due to less intensive heating.
  • Accessories (optional): If designers have assumed that the window sashes should open, then one cannot do without the use of special fittings.
  • Bay connector: This element is a part that is present in such windows, which makes it possible to combine them at angles of 90 degrees or more.

Bay Window Design

Those who want to give the bay window an original and elegant look will be interested in various design ideas and ways to implement them. The most common is lamination – the process of applying a film of a certain color or texture to a profile. It is used when the standard shade doesn’t fit the general concept of the interior or does not suit the customer for another reason.

Toning is relevant when it is required to reduce the brightness of natural light entering the room. If you don’t want to purchase curtains, and hiding from prying eyes is necessary to achieve a comfortable atmosphere, you can tint your windows.

The most exotic option in terms of visual effect, but not in terms of technology, is decoration. You don’t have to turn to the masters of glass art: the procedure consists in attaching a film with the desired pattern.

Installation of Bay Windows: How the Process Looks

The installation of windows of this type is based on completely different principles than in the case of traditional window systems. A wider range of regulations and rules apply here. Only by fulfilling all the requirements, you can be sure that the bay window will fully cope with the functions assigned to it, among which is maintaining the optimum temperature, as well as creating a cozy atmosphere.

It is unlikely that you will be able to find an appropriate model suitable for a specific opening. Therefore, the manufacturer starts from measurements of the opening. Based on the identified parameters, they create a profile. The assembly of bay windows is a step-by-step connection between separate window frames along the perimeter of the protruding part of the building. The finishing element will be the installation of window sills that fit the general idea of the interior.
