Widow, children of slain firefighter sue LA County, killer’s estate

The widow and three children of a Los Angeles County Fire Department engineer who was slain by a colleague at the Agua Dulce station sued Los Angeles County and the killer’s estate Friday for wrongful death.

The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit was brought by Heidi Carlon, who was married to the late 44-year-old Tory Carlon; her adult daughter, Joslyn Carlon; and Heidi Carlon’s two other daughters, who are both minors, seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

Representatives for the county and the estate of Jonathan Patrick Tatone, who fatally shot Carlon before killing himself, could not be immediately reached.

“Although Tatone pulled the trigger, it was the Los Angeles County Fire Department leadership’s ratification of Tatone’s years of dangerous conduct that was the substantial factor in the death of Carlon,” the suit alleges.

Carlon was working at Station No. 81 on Sierra Highway on June 1, 2021, when the 45-year-old Tatone, who also was an engineer but was off duty, arrived and an argument ensued, authorities said. Tatone subsequently shot Carlon, who later died, and county Fire Capt. Arnie Sandoval, who survived. Tatone left for his Acton residence, which he set afire before shooting himself to death.

Carlon and others had consistently warned that Tatone was “unhinged and dangerous,” but the county “chose to ignore, ratify and empower Tatone’s bad conduct.” According to the suit, Tatone was mentally unstable as well as “angry, unpredictable, violent and eventually deadly” as well as an ” open wound in Fire Station 81, left to fester and infect for years…”

Guy is dead, and the “estate” is probably a mountain of debts associated with the house he burned down on his way out. But in standard Carlon fashion, “we have lawyers, let’s torture the family.” I’d bet my bottom dollar the in-laws are behind this, not the wife and daughter.

How are you so smart, mr know it all? You must be a really fun person to hangout with. So full of respect and happy thoughts. I bet your kids just love coming to your house for the holidays, and I’m sure you have TONS of friends mr Scott. Please, without showing just a little bit of respect, keep hating on everything you possibly can. It really shows us who you are and what you stand for sir, and for that, we can’t thank you enough. By the way, have you ever thought of joining a circus? Cause you sure are good at being a clown. SMH, your dead parents must be proud of the asshat you’ve become *face palm*

ProTip: to successfully insult someone you have to hit a grain of truth. Carlons and their sycophants are no doubt raging indignant about what I said, because what I said is based in truth that even if they’ll never admit it they recognize as real. You saying obviously random things “about” me is not really ever going to make a difference.

I don’t know “it all,” but I do know Carlon and “I will sue someone just to ruin them even if they have no money” is certainly in his wheelhouse.

As to whether I am fun to hang out with, I’ve never gotten any complaints.
